    Thank you so much for this. I'm only part of the way through but I'm finding this to be so much better than the manual. To be honest I got bored with the manual and just started to figure things out on my own. One of the aspects i particularly like about your tutorial is the fact that you explain exactly which buttons you're pressing as well as showing them. This means that blind drummers like myself can follow along. Keep up the awesome work.

    Hi Justin I can't thank you enough for the tutorials and all your info on various kits ,any time I need info I head right for your sites
    no BS just the facts .I recently bought a Strike Pro, well ya try to save a buck ya get what you pay for .The strike pro has some great sounds lots of funky toys but the processing needs so much help .The way the kits load is ridiculous and the effects sometimes follow 36 secs later, so in a live situation you yell to the guitar player "hey dude can you wait 36 secs for my kit to load" I mean how much $$$ is ram "ALESIS !!!" SO I thought I will try something, I rented a TD 30 module WOW!!! I don't have to tell you strike pro is like a toy compared to it ...tomorrow I'm buying the module ..took a little bit to adjust settings but everything works even that cheap Hi Hat .used vh13 settings and little bit of tweaking ...just used your site to transfer settings to other kits thanks for the info saved me major time ..thank you thank you :):):):)

    Hi Justin, really great video. I just got a TD30 and this really helped a lot! One question I have which I can't find anything about is the snare strainer adjustment (Inst > Edit > Muffle > strainer adj.). It seems that I can't get into that field to be able to adjust it from "loose" to tight. It looks like it's locked since the arrow down key does not respond when I try to get into the field where it says "loose". Do you know if this is indeed the case or that there is a workaround to get it more "tight"?

    Thanks for a great informative video on effects I didn't know (or were afraid) to mess with... However what would also help is if you had a video actually demonstrating the effects/changes as you make them. This would allow a more real experience. I guess I can play myself (and will) but Id like to short list the main effects determined by listening to your changes as you make them. I appreciate this would make the video long but it could be split up. Also to know what is the default settings and what not to ned changing. Also how to name user kits if possible? tks

    Justin, I finally purchased the Roland TD-30k kit, after going through 5 low to midrange drum kits (Alesis Forge, Alesis Crimson, Roland TD-11kv, Roland TD-25k and Roland TD-25KV. I was never happy with any of these kits as they had their limitations, both sonically and expansion wise. I kicked around the idea of getting the Strike Pro, but no stores had demo models and the web videos of the unit screamed "don't get me". My only alternative was to get the TD-30. Your in-depth videos on the playability, editing, sounds and general enthusiasm about the kit really tipped the scale for me.
    I really liked the TD-25kv, but I ran into a wall with its obvious limitations. Since I purchased all the previous kits at GC with the pro coverage, I was able to "own" the aforementioned sets for over a month each, so I have gained much knowledge about drums and these kits. I feel like I'm kind of an expert on these kits, which really helped me to realize you get what you pay for and the only way to go with e-drums is in purchasing a Roland flagship model.
    Like you, I just want to play. I am a multi instrumentalist and have a complete midi studio, but I just want to sit down and play a good kit. I feel the TD-30k will allow me to finally enjoy playing.
    Thank you for all of the valuable tips!
    PS: Does the TD-30 allow you to assign separate head and rim sounds?

    That is a deep rabbit hole. But awesome. Its funny I kinda feel roland and its sounds are for the guys who want the polished and processed sound of modern drums. Basically the guys who want to have the sounds of the albums on their module. It would seem like the strike, atv and 2 box focus more on natural acoustic sounds. Unfortunately for me I like the processed sounds. Gotta love the import functions.

I was just too lazy to figure out all these settings by myself, and the Tutorial Roland gives away with the kit ist not really helpful. I have one Question though: I really am a Hard-Hitter. When playing on the TD-30 the Trigger Lights are almost always in the red area. Do you think this is a problem and will eventually result in failure of the electronics, or should I just not worry that much and keep playing the way I play? Thanks in advance!

      Yeah it'll work with pretty much any mesh pad you throw at it. And it'll work with most crash cymbals. The Hi-hat and Ride depends on the wiring. Brands like yamaha won't work, but ATV will. So double check before buying random cymbals

Second, is there a way to copy a sound from one kit and import it to another? you could always checkout the website vexpressions.com, they might have what you're looking for. Listen to some of the kit examples for the different TD30 packs on the website

    thanks for the video, i bought this kit about a week ago and love it, still learning as I'm going on. A few question i have, is changing triggers an important thing? when i play sometimes i see the trigger volume meter go all the way up to red and i sometimes think to myself if i am hitting it too hard? is this the case? i read a guide from a member of a Vdrums website stating which are the perfect setting for beginners. http//www.vdrums.com/forum/advanced/technical/67143-roland-module-tuning-trigger-setup-initial-settings-discussions.
    Do you agree with this? I'm trying to get the most out of the Kit and don't want a continue forever adjustment as long as i have this kit.
    Also the volume of your faders is that what you usually play with? I tried recording the other night from L and R output onto my phone and i could hardly hear the bass. Im thinking i have my cymbals too high

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  Před 7 lety

      The triggers sensitivity should be high enough that when you hit hard, the meter maxes out. As for the volume, it changes from kit to kit. Just remember the kick and snare are the most important thing as far as volume goes. Try increasing the low end with eq. Go to the eq section and increase it a bit. It will help the feel of your whole set :)

      Sorry man, this is my beginner video. But I do have a bunch of individual videos showing off how to do specific things in the module. Go check those out on my channel. As for playalong songs, This kit really doesn't have many in the module. Most are on a special CD that came with the module. You have to play them off a laptop, it isn't a regular CD. Good luck!

  • @pokeboy-cartaspokemon9585

    Hi Justin, i just got my TD30K today, i'm coming from a HD1, it's realy another universe.
    So, until today, it Was all about plugging a basic headphone and have a gig.
    But i didin't find how to use the headphones on TD30K, cause when i plugged them on the L output channel, the sound came mono only on the L side.
    Should it have to sound on both sides of the headphone ?
    The manual not even talks about this issue.
    Can you help me ?
    Thks!

    Justin, are you familiar with the V Expressions LTD sound expansion for the TD-30? If so, would you recommend getting it? They offer a Rock and a Performance set at 50.00 apiece, or both for 80.00. Not sure if it is worth it or not, but really interested in enhancing the kits as many of the preprogrammed kits are not to my taste.

      There are 2 types of reverb in the module. Long Reverb, and standard reverb. With around 10 parameter controls over each type.

    Your description of the compressor is wrong.
    It CAN do what you say (levelling out your dynamics), but it depends on how you set up.
    The way you set it up can make your kit sounds more punchy, less punchy, etc

    I don't know if this is just something in my head or if it is actual, but when I first edit all my instruments to sound the way I want them to sound, and then go to adjust the ambience, then my instruments all sound different again... any tips on that?

    • @masterofkaarsvet
      @masterofkaarsvet Před 7 lety

      It's like the chicken and the egg. Which do you edit first? Because they interact

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  Před 7 lety +1

      It's a tough balance, my suggestion is get your drums sounding 90% of the way you want with editing the instruments first. Then go edit ambiance with a VERY light touch to finish the sound. In my mind, if you can easily notice the room ambiance/reverb/overhead mic placement, it's too heavy. Try messing with the ambiance slider on the mixer faders.

    Can I create a chain of the same kits? For example, I only like the rock kit, but for different songs the tom and cymbal sounds are edited? So in the Chain it will say -
    1- Rock Kit (whatever my edits are)
    2- Rock Kit (different edits)
    3- Rock kit (even more edits)
