HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series is back for its second season and in the second episode, all the main characters are dealing with the aftermath of Prince Jaehaerys's death. King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) has lost his heir and seeks vengeance. Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) is shocked to learn that the masses think she's capable of such depravity. She is devastated when she realizes that her King Consort Daemon (Matt Smith) is responsible.
In King's Landing, the Greens try to use the horrific act to their advantage following the Hand Otto Hightower's (Rhys Ifans) lead. When Aegon kills several innocent royal rat catchers his Hand confronts him and their argument leads to Otto's dismissal.
Alicent (Olivia Cooke) believes she's responsible and that the gods could be punishing her for her affair with Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel). Now that her father has been exiled from the capital she'll need to try to keep the new Hand and her son from escalating to an all-out war.
    S2.E2 ∙ "Rhaenyra the Cruel"
Both Alicent and Rhaenyra are facing the consequences of the murder of King Aegon's heir.

I thought the episode did a good job of showing how Blood and Cheese affected everyone and that should temper most of the criticism. I think the first two episodes work well together which is a promising sign now that the conflict is heating up. Can't wait to see more, let me know what you think. Sorry for the mistake with Beala's name the first time it comes up. I fixed in in the original audio file when I noticed it but I guess the timeline didn't update in the video.

I agree about Blood and Cheese. I liked how they did it already. But this episode really did a lot to move the story along. The conversations and consequences went far. I also don't think Club Foot will like the new appointment for Hand of the King.

"the smallfolk... like me" line was super-necesary. During the episode we hear Aemond's sister saying that she does not care about the smallfolk. Aemond does not care either. When she tells him "like me", she puts a face on the smallfolk. It is very important and is said for Aemond to hear, not for the audience.

This is exactly what Otto, Alicent, The Green faction, and small council deserve. They didnt even care to groom Aegon or Aemond for the positions of power they were growing into they saw Aemond and especially Aegon as just a means to an end a figure head and its almost enjoyable to see Otto so baffled and agitated with Aegon when you see him interacting with Aegon. And for all of Viserys's faults he had some more common since when it came to ruling he was taught this by his father grandfather and Otto himself he wanted to learn and finnily emough like Aegon wanted to help his people the commoners its why he stayed out of wars that could damage the realm and tried so hard with Aemma to produce a male heir to hopefully keep the peace for when his son came of age. And Otto is the last one to realize how he took Viserys an approachable intraspective and well meaning king and person for granted in his cold, calculating scheme for taking control of the whole of westeros Otto couldnt even see the actual human element of the people he depended on for this plan to work. For Alicent to slowly turn her back on him and Aegon not listening to him to Criston taking his place acting as tempermental liability which he can also say for Aemond Otto has no grasp on the actual personality and wants of his family and has no ability to control them that whole veneer of righteousness of stability that he pushed as the reason for his factions reason to be in power is something I really like.

I think you got the "winner" of the brother fight wrong, If you pay attention the "blacks" brother gets his thigh slashed an the "greens" does not and it is the one with the slashed leg that is killed first then the "green" brother seppuku's himself out of guilt bc he knew he would never get to Ranera and he had just killed his brother for no reason. At least thats how i saw it play out on my watch throughs.
