My alternate plan for this video was an interview with Matt Turk. Ended up deciding on this instead though.
Maybe we'll have to do that at 2 million...

As a child of the 80s and 90s, the NES, SNES, and Genesis are near and dear to my heart. At 40 years old today, I thought I would only get to enjoy the content of the old consoles by looking in the rearview mirror of my memory. But then I found the Summoning Salt channel and discovered that the old consoles still have high entertainment value and that amazing new tricks are still being discovered to this day. Thank you, Summoning Salt, for compiling such wonderful research and the achievements of the speed running community. And the song We're Finally Landing always manages to make me emotional. You always play it just the right moment in your videos. *Subscribed

No joke, this is one of the highest quality channels out there, the fact that you are only now hitting 1M when every video pulls in way more views than that is criminal, you deserve way more
Summoning Salt started by covering legends only to become a legend himself.
His analysis of himself and his content in this vid just shows how much he gets it
Summoning Salt is self-referencing now. That's it, guys, we've come full circle
Damn right we have.
Surprisingly, the first person to reach 1 million subscribers on CZcams was none other than Matt Turk.
I'd love to see you make a video dedicated to the history of speedrunning itself. You've alluded to it in a few of your prior videos, but I'm interested to learn how these communities developed. For example, did recorded speedruns exist in the 20th century, is it only a 21st-century phenomenon? When did the old No Glitch Rule fall away in favor of Any % for world records?
Every time i feel the myself losing that "in the zone" feeling while speedrunning, i always end up back here watching the amazing history you have bestowed upon us. It just motivates even more to keep going, all that time will pay off. Someday. Thank you, for everything.
I'm very lucky to have been involved with one of your earliest projects, so I could enjoy the videos from the get go! I'm glad they reach so many people now, so all those people can enjoy them too. And I love that so many different communities and stories can be highlighted!

Idk why, but I’m always crying tears of Joy at the end of his videos, he’s just so good at portraying that feeling of triumph from the Speedrunning community. It’s honestly inspiring
My man did a WR history about himself.
It's not often you get to hear Summoningsalt talk about himself
Yeah not even in Punch-Out videos where he have Mike Tyson world record.. It really shows how much he cares about the community
He's pretty humble, and I think that's why his passion translates into his work so well.

Salt , your videos are something I regularly check back with . Your voice is so soothing that I can sleep peacefully while playing your video . Whenever I have nothing to watch , I come back to watch these and relive these videos
Heya Salt. I know this video is 2 years old, but I thought I'd just drop a bit of encouragement here nonetheless. I'm not much of a speedrunner, despite having a few undocumented attempts at Finak Fantasy VIII and Hades (current best time is only 9:41, which is hardly anything worth mentioning), but your videos on the record and technique progression for so many different games has kept me hooked on your videos. They have a similar, yet distinct flavor from the more generalized Gaming Historian, like trying to choose between Vietnamese and Thai for dinner (I'm a former chef, so I use food analogies sometimes). I always eagerly anticipate a new video, because I know I'll be getting quality content, not just from the presentation but also from the investigation and composition. My best wishes to you going forward, and hope you'll hit 2 million soon!

To be absolutely honest, I wasn't into speedrunning too much in the past. But after I found your channel, I instantly became invested in the ins and outs of practically everything related to speedrunning! You explain things very well and make it easy to understand. I don't have the skills or patience to ever attempt a speedrun but I'm fine with watching your vids!
The Evolution of Summoning Salt is a beautiful wonder to behold.
Here's to hoping the speedrun to the next million will be exponentially faster.

Nice comment.
Yet another record broken immediately after the upload.
I’m not a speedrunner. Overall I don’t have much interest in the speed running community. But your videos are so well made that they make for very interesting viewing.
It’s like how if a documentary is of sufficient quality and is able to inform the viewer without the viewer having any prior knowledge of the subject then the documentary can still be highly interesting and compelling. That’s what your videos achieve, you don’t have to be a speed-runner or even follow the speed running community to enjoy them because of how well you present everything. A perfect mix of technical information, stats and facts, combined with a brilliant blend of drama to keep it super intriguing.
Agree completely. The melodrama really ramps up the suspense. My favourite part of his videos are always when he says:
“....and then this happened...”
The Quest to Beat Matt Turk is one of my favorite videos ever. I also must say, I grew up with Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, so I love all the older games you cover (loved the Metroid videos and Ninja Gaiden so much) and I LOVE all the Mario videos. Mario Kart, Super Mario, all of them. You could never do enough Mario videos. Although I would watch any video you put out! The research you do is so thorough and it really shows. I love how you explain how the glitches and shortcuts work. I'm not a speed runner at all, don't really play any games at all these days, but I can still understand everything going on because you explain it so well. That's what is great about this channel, I know a lot of subscribers here arent speedrunners but your channel has made a lot of fans of speedrunning out of us!

I'm getting weirdly addicted to this channel. Not only that, it's because of this channel that I found Arcus and eventually started to follow his Twitch channel.
Not to mention, your channel is a piece of not only speedrunning history, but of gaming history as a whole as well.
I use your videos while long sessions of work, long sessions of 16 to 24 hours
The music just hits perfectly, the level of description of detail is amazing, the editing is beyond the expectations, the fact that your videos sound like if i were watching a professional documentary of the history of world records it's just astonishing.
All of this added with the perfect narrative voice, just allows me to keep focused for long hours.
Building suspense through your documentaries, with phrases like: and this world record was going to be staying for very long time.......... uuuuntil, bla bla bla
Thank you so much for your videos, they have inspired me as well for doing something on my own
Keep the great work
This is what CZcams should be: quality content by single content creators. Not corporate crap. Proud of you Salt!

Sadly big corporations will always end up ruining what we love. Always.

@Summoning Salt the very first video I watched of yours was your latest video, Super Mario Bros: The Human Limit. I stumbled upon it on May 31, I had just completed the first full draft of my manuscript and found myself lost in your storytelling. In my mind, my novel, Johnny Outlaw, will always be automatically associated two things, Memorial Day and Summoning Salt. I've watched a lot of your videos so far and am loving the binge and deep dive. You ignited a hope in me that if my novel grows really big I'd love to see it turned it into a video game and become a speedrunner of it for myself. Hopefully, one day you might even make a video on the history of speedrunning the Johnny Outlaw video game.
You have truly mastered the art of storytelling in these videos and instantly became one of my favorite youtubers.
I've just been on a binge of all your videos from oldest to newest. Listening to this one again is always a treat, and I'm glad this can continue to be a fulfilling creative outlet for you :D I discovered the channel with my first video being the Choco Mountain one. Super glad I did. That video in and of itself was a masterpiece, and it's so neat seeing the quality of your videos improve over the years as you learn more. Keep up the great work Mr Salt, congrats on a milli 😍
Definitely deserving of that golden play button! Your content is so unique, you do the same thing over and over, but you also don't. And this video shows that you never take a generic response to pretty much anything. Your videos keep me awake at day, but help me sleep at night. This video formula is something to definitely expand upon in the future. It builds a much better understanding and relationship with the speedrunning community to whoever sees it. I have even started to consider dipping myself into the speedrunnibg community becauee of these videos. Although what game/games I will want to speedrun I hope will be on the 3ds or wii platform as they are my 2 most played on Nintendo consoles.
Keep up the good work
