    You are a LIFESAVER!!! Been driving without A/C since June (horrible heat in NYC this year) and couldn't figure out why it wasn't blowing hot air! Nothing was wrong with the A/C system, but apparently a dead battery left a code for the A/C, I reset it and it works perfectly with this method. Thank you so much dude!!!

    It took a long time but it appeared that I finally cleared the default, turned the car off, waited a while, turned it on and didn't feel any cool AC. Turned it off, went through the system check again and the error was there again. I assume it means that part, the coolant circulation pump, really is broken? The code was 416.

    My EC button light is permanently on/pressing it won't turn it off.
    My blower fan runs on its own, but not always. It continues with the ignition off. A previous owner fitted an isolating switch to the blower supply to turn it off.
    Everything else appears to work, well, apart from the A/C. The compressor clutch won't engage, I presume there's a leak.
    Are these issues connected?

    Great instructions! Luckily no errors and everything is running smoothly. However, do you have any idea where to find the fuse for the backlight? I put in LEDs a few months ago, everything was running smoothly when today, suddenly, both of the lights went out at the same time. I am assuming that the probability of both lights going bad is very low, so my first guess would be to check the fuse before buying new lights.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 9 lety

      Patriks7 the fuse would be for the entire gauge lighting... since there are 2 LEDs in the hvac panel..they are likely like christmas tree lights... 1 blows and that cuts the flow to the second bulb

    • @patriks7
      @patriks7 Před 9 lety

      ***** Thanks for the quick reply. After further inspection, I seem to have a bigger problem. It seems that the lights in my license plate and trunk don't work either. Well, the bulbs work (tried them in a different place), but there doesn't seem to be any power. I'll try to check the fuses, but no idea which ones can cover this. I already ordered new bulbs for the climate control backlight, as I don't have any other ones to test there. I'm starting to feel this might be a bigger issue that is out of my capabilities to fix..

    • @patriks7
      @patriks7 Před 9 lety

      ***** Ok turns out you were exactly right. One of the LEDs died, which blew a fuse (who would have thought that the license plate lights and interior dashboard lights would be on the same fuse??). When I kept the bad LED in there, it didn't want to light up, but as soon as I removed it, the other one worked perfectly. Just posting this here in case someone has a similar problem :)

    Thanks for the video. My W210 got problem on AC. While starting the engine, it's look normal. After a few minutes, the central vent has almost no air flow and the the air go to the side vent and the wind shield (make its foggy a moment later). Today, I add AC Pro refrigerant and it's at green zone (about 33 psi). I check the climate control module and found 2 errors code:
    Eb1 234 - Sun Sensor Malfunction
    Eb1 416 - Coolant circulation pump
    Can you advise what I should do next? Thanks again.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 3 lety

      check the coolant circ pump..looks like a fuel pump under or near the coolant reservoir bottle. check to see if the electrical connection is good and if it hums which it should when working properly. The sun sensor is just a little dome on the dash that senses direct sunlight and increases fan speed in auto mode ..doesn't have any effect on a/c .so if it isn't working it won't cause a malfunction. The coolant pump is the only thing that can cause your issue. If its working and humming , then the codes just need to be cleared and it should be fine.

    I reset the same two codes I got and they came back 241 and 416. I refill the ac with r134 and hissing sound comes from vent and not a/c compressor. So it's definitely the 416 correct? but what does coolant circulation pump has to do with a/c?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 8 lety

      The coolant pump operates all the time to keep the engine from developing hot spots when the rpms are low. it also operates the "rest" function to heat the interior when the car is off..I'm not sure why it would keep the a/c from working

    • @LOONIBEATS

      would the 241 refrigerant code make the pump not work properly or throw codes to the system. the air is still hot. Oh I just check the gauge and its in the green but a lot lower reading. and it seems as its not going in the r134a is getting cold as heck

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 10 lety

      the coolant circulation pump is located down under the coolant reservoir..looks like a shiny silver motor/pump with wiring and 2 coolant hoses coming from it..it is to increase coolant flow to the heater at idle and to pump coolant into the heater core with the car "off" in rest mode...when it fails you get very low heat in the car while idling and in stop and go traffic..also the rest feature which allows the car interior to remain warm while the ignition is off wouldn't work

      @Gocha909 Před 10 lety

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 10 lety

      Gocha909 the fault will remain in memory until it is reset..possible that the code is actually years old and has never been erased. You can always check the codes again in a few days and if it is still clear,then the recirc.pump is no longer at fault,or whatever was causing the fault (electrical connector that lost momentary contact..etc.) is no longer an issue...fingers crossed :)

      Nope.. The w208 is an orphan like a few other benz models from 1997-2000. Enhanced OBD functions very hard to read on anything but a factory scan tool. Regular OBD emissions stuff can be read with a simple OBD scanner but everything else is tough to get read. Thank god the climate control had one built in.

    Hi, I have a 226 error and I can not get it to clear. The auto button on the driver side of the controller is not functioning. The in car temp sensor seams to be working fine after I cleaned it. Could this be keeping my AC from working correctly. The display code #1 seams to be reporting an accurate reading of the in car temp. Any ideas on clearing the fault? I tried disconnecting the controller but the fault is still there. Any ideas on fixing the auto button?

    • @fupabox

  • @stevenskinner6747
    @stevenskinner6747 Před 6 lety

    It seems that you know quite a bit about the cooling/ac system in w208. I have a good question about it that I hope you can shed some insight towards.
    When I first start my clk430 the AC is good and seems to work great until I start driving and then what it does is direct all the AC air out of the windshield vents and a small amount of air will come out of the side vents. Almost no air at all will come out of the center vents. Nothing I can do to get it to come out of the center vents after the car is hot and been running for a bit.
    Ever heard of such a thing?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 6 lety +1

      The w208 chassis is based on the w202 and shares many of the components including a/c and heating . The issue you are having seems to be vacuum related. The flaps that open and close to direct air to different areas are controlled by engine vacuum . At idle there is a lot of vacuum with the throttle plate closed . Once the throttle opens there is much less vacuum , so there isn't adequate vacuum to hold the flaps open that direct air to the center vents . There is a default for the air to flow to the windshield and side vents so that a fault in the system will send air to defrost the windows..all in the name of safety. there is either a leak in the little rubber bellows that hold the center flap open, or the distribution block that sends vacuum to other areas of the car (you can get to the distribution block and partially see the vent bellows from behind the glovebox) also check all your rubber and hard plastic vacuum connectors under the hood for a leak , but it likely the bellows has a tiny tear or leak.

    • @dodaro48
      @dodaro48 Před 6 lety

    • @stevenskinner6747

      Fupabox...is the bellow that controls the center vents in the front passenger wheel well? Looks like a grey box that has a white tube and green tube coming out of it. What do I do once I locate it. Just check for any damaged tubing or replace the box? And I do believe one of them goes to the back of the engine and I can't find where the green one goes...I would guess to the vent. Would I have to remove the dash to see the other end of the green tube? Crazy system just for vents!!!! One more question...do you have a diagram of all the vacumm tubes around the engine and where they connect to?
      Thanks in advanced for all you help...

I got E61, which you say is duo valve (not sure what that is) and 422. But main problem now is I then turned the car off and on again and now all I get is hot air through my vents?! Any clues? Thanks.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 10 lety

      the duo valve is the valve under the hood that regulates hot coolant flow into the cabin to control temperature..if it is faulty it will remain in the warm setting and not allow you to get cool air into the interior...check my duo valve repair video..it is easy and costs nothing to repair

    Hey Craig..i did the code test. I got only one code msg. (E61 416) I notice in your video you got an E61 418 & 471 code. I heard you said that it was.. "being a problem with the Duovalve..left or right etc.." BUT I notice in your list the 416 code is for Coolant Circ Pump..? Is there a similarity there? Also what exactly is the E61 # meaning on the left side of the display...does it coincide with right code # displayed on the right side of the screen?? and the main question though it may be a dumb question..lol Do i have an issue with the A/C, or I'm guessing its possibly an old code that's never been cleared. I am getting cold air, (though sometimes not as cold as i like, living is Los Angeles) I know its not Joshua Tree..lol But it gets hot here too..your thoughts?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 10 lety

      The E61 is actually Eb 1 then the code all the codes begin with Eb1,,,,
      the coolant recirc. pump and the duovalve often trigger each others codes as they both control/restrict coolant flow.
      The A/C won't work properly with old codes stored inside...so it's best to erase them and see if they come back

      Hey bro..ya. im good on the AC front..Never really actually had issue other than having to take it to my Benz contact here in LA who put some refrigerant in it for $20.00 last year. I like it really cold..lol The issue i am having tho with the AC as i mentioned in the other thread for the Valve closing and opening. My center valve seems not to be closing all the way..i get a bit of moderate air blowing thru even when i have the AC in off. They when i turn it on it blows according to how i adjust it up and down..like i said it may be a bad elliment behind the dash thats controls the open close to the center vent on the dash. YOur thoughts?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 4 lety

      @@paulattree4171 you can still charge the AC . The coolant recirc pump is the one on the front frame behind the coolant bottle. A smaller coolant hose connects from it and pumps warm coolant to keep the interior warm when the car is off and you engage "rest" button . If the pump isn't working it can slightly restrict heating in the winter . Usually the wiring connector that makes the pump not work . After the car is warm shut it off remove key and press rest button on AC unit . if you put your hand on the pump you should feel it humming .

  • @TheAwakez

    Could you please very briefly explain what exactly does EC ( the economy mode ) do and when am i supposed to use it ( summer/winter time ). I thought i knew how to properly use my climate control untill recently when i had this guy in the service center checking my AC, told me that i might have been doing something wrong with my AC, which i don't quite remember what it was, but it definitely had something to do with the EC button.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 8 lety +2

      the e/c button turns the a/c compressor off ...when e/c is lit up the a/c compressor will not come on no matter how low you put the temperature. The reason you would have e/c engaged (I leave it engaged most of the time ) is for the best fuel economy and power.. a/c compressors use a couple of HP to turn them ..if you put the climate control to front windshield defrost, the a/c compressor will automatically come on to help dry the air to defog the windshield , so in winter I only use front defrost when absolutely necessary

    • @TheAwakez
      @TheAwakez Před 8 lety

      Right... so basically you just turn the AC on by pushing the plus button, set the desired fan speed, push the air recirculation button and enjoy the the cold air flowing out of those vents in a hot summer day and then you would just turn it off by clicking the minus button untill the fan completely stops or just shut the engine off without even touching the e/c button, i'm a bit confused sorry :) Got the defogging part though

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 8 lety +1

      Heisenberg Mercedes actually does make it a bit confusing..their assumption is that everyone will leave everything in automatic mode...essentially e/c button not lit up is a/c on when the car thinks it needs to use it.
      e/c button lit up means the a/c will not come on ever. ( unless in defrost) for the most effective temperature control set the temperature you want and press "auto" the car will do the rest and you will never need to touch anything. If, like me you don't really like the feel of a/c unless it's blistering hot.. you can leave everything else the same and just press the e/c button to disengage the compressor.. when its too hot turn the e/c button off and the a/c will engage to cool you down

    • @GungeScleraEmpyaema
      @GungeScleraEmpyaema Před 9 lety

      ***** there was
      the unit was working and i could change the speed but i couldn't manipulate temperatures or the "auto "buttons didn't work nor the "circulation" button
      and i always had something like "1" on the left and "35" on the right
      the rear window defrost button wasn't functioning before but now it is the only button that comes on and off
      so yeah
      that's what it is.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 9 lety

      GungeScleraEmpyaema if unplugging the negative battery cable doesn't reset it, you may need to get a used one on ebay or at a wrecking yard... I have never seen one go bad, but it can happen...the only other thing that could possibly help is a Mercedes star tool can scan the unit, but the price of doing that would be around the same as getting a used one..

      @GungeScleraEmpyaema Před 9 lety

      ***** no it didn't. or was i supposed to unplug the negative cable while the unit was on?

      i just unplugged and plugged
      which messed all the memory settings. not a big deal but what if i unplug hte positive this time?
      or both? while the unit is on

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 9 lety

      GungeScleraEmpyaema no don't unplug the positive...always unplug the negative battery cable first on a Mercedes..Don't do it with the unit on. I think there is something wrong with the climate control unit. The noise is likely the circulation pump which is activated by the rest button when the car is off... if it is coming on while the rest button is off, something is messed up inside the control unit
