For example; the food in Minas Gerais is very different from the food in Bahia, even though those states border each other. And the food in Brazil is vastly different from the food in Mexico... peace.

+ID0ntUnderstand the traditional Cuban style black beans and rice (not the same thing as rice and beans) is prepared sooooooooooo specifically it's not "just" a staple. They slow cook the beans in a ton of spices and garlic that the flavor is specific, super recognizable and seriously the first thing I think of when I think of Cuban food. It's not really a big deal, just so surprised it wasn't one of things tried.

I'm Puerto Rican and I love my country's food and I think is amazing. Cuban food is out of this world. I went there once and I liked everything that I ate. Those Croquetas but with fish are to die for. Also, I think they have the best malta.

We have been starting to get a few decent Mexican places, though.
Depends on location of the individual and their thought process. Like most people I talk to about Cuban food thought it was the same as Mexican food. I just reply that it all depends on the influence that makes the 2 different. Like Cuban food has French. Mexican food has Mayan or what ever Indians in that region (don't know much about Mexican history). It also depends on what's easily available there.

California is a big state. I am sure you can find authentic Cuban places. I grew up in Miami and live in Minnesota and even here we got a couple authentic Cuban places

This is definitely one of the better food episodes because the reactions seem more down to earth. When I see some videos of this nature, I can't look at it for 3 seconds because while the staged reactions might be funny to some people, it turns me right off because I came here to learn about and appreciate foods I may not have seen before. I want to try foods like these because I see other people enjoy them (and they look great) and the people here genuinely had a good time sampling the Cuban food.
When you make these kinds of food videos, you're representing a country and a culture (or cultures). I appreciate the respect shown towards it in this video. Even the stuff some people didn't like was handled well and I enjoyed watching! I come here sometimes when I want something happy and uplifting to watch.
They should make a part 2 with even more Cuban food, and deserts!

As a musical performer I had the privilege to travel to Cuba this past summer before the embargo was over and stay for two weeks while doing performances regularly. I also tasted a LOT of new foods. And sadly, this is quite a misinformed video in my opinion. If you want to try Cuban food, you really have to go to Cuba. The only thing I saw on her that was accurate was the Croquettas, and the coffee. In Cuba they mostly drink off brand Coke, and red bull, or different mixed drinks with Rum. The yucca in Cuba has a much more orange tinge to it, and is extremely sweet, and served with sweet apple butter. The Cubans also never drink coffee by itself. when you order coffee it is always served with warm salted bread, that you dip in the coffee. The "Cubana sandwich" is really just an American interpretation of what real sandwiches are in Cuba, which mostly consist of pork. A real Cuban diet is pretty much, salt,bread,rice,beans. Id love to see a vid of them eating authentic Cuban food. Thx!

I'm from Havana and we still drink our coffee with just sugar...my mom drinks it with no sugar and just black. Also, I go pretty much every year and have family over there still and we have never had any apple butter? I'm curious about the part of Cuba that you went to.

+HPheroette I went to Havana, Cinefuegos, Trinidad, and several others, and then ended again in Havana. The coffee however I was basing on my time in Trinidad, and I do recall the hotel in Havana just had cream and sugar like you said.

When the Asian dude said that he knows Mexican food really well, I don't even think he's had the traditional foods we have besides tacos, burritos, or any mainstream mexican food that's been Americanized.
Miami publix has all these things but when I went to Orlando publix and asked for croquetas I got a weird look from the lady that gives you the free cookies.
Have you tried the sedanos? They have the best croquetas ever there and their pan con mantequilla is to die for.
