      I agree, so underrated, I have only seen one photo of Jamie in a guitar magazine, he was down in the corner and I almost missed him. Such a crime to nearly ignore this great talent.

    Fantastic player . His use of chord voicing is as good as it gets. He is often overlooked because he is not a shredder but it's his use of chord melody that makes him a fantastic player. He is very similar to Andy Summers in the way he never overplays for the sake of showing off but is always doing something interesting and musical for the sake of making the song great.

    Long time huge Fixx fan of nearly 40 years, however I still did not know much about Jamie, since it is Cy Curnin who does the bulk of the interviews. Thank you for this long, deep insight into his personal life, his influences, etc. I'm an even bigger fan now!

    He worked for Laurie Anderson? I learned so much here about what else he’s done. Jamie’s a huge guitar hero of mine. It makes sense that the Who turned him on to music because he plays guitar like it’s a knife - with a similar thrust to Pete Townshend, except with even more musicality. I love the guitar work Jamie did on The Fixx’s “Ink.” Great interview, thank you!

    This guy is the coolest classic/NEW DISCOVERY I’ve come across in recent times, The Fixx track I’ve previously known of was the 80’s hit One Way Leads to Another, but I’ve recently come to discover some live Fixx performances on CZcams & was so impressed with the amazing band’s materiel & Oram’s amazing guitar tones/approach to playing, it’s HUGELY SHAMEFUL how underrated he is as a player, many Fixx compositions sound like Pink Floyd taken to the next creative level , anyhow l’ve been very much enjoying discovering their music as of late.

He truly is an underrated musician, and, in my limited experience, a very humble, kind, and down-to-earth fellow. Of all the texturalists from the '80's, I've always felt his sound was the most refreshing. I think a major factor was his voicings combined with the MXR Stereo Chorus which was more subtle than many of the others used back then. I met him after a show several years ago and tried to pick his brain about gear came off a little shy and maybe overwhelmed by my line of questioning. lol

    On the "What if...? question, what if the Fixx hadn't passed on the song, "Don't You Forget About Me"?
    -It's my understanding that it was shopped to them early on. Could be a rumor.

  • @GlobalMiles
    @GlobalMiles Před 2 lety +2

    Ooh...Jamie trips the line.
    Was just thinking about his remarkable, totally unique guitar playing style whereby the function itself is transformed from a rhythm or punctuation medium...but a hypnotic wand that captivates and wrestles with listeners at a subconscious level.
    And then BOOM, he mentions magik spells.
    He knows what he’s doing...

    • @GlobalMiles
      @GlobalMiles Před 2 lety +1

      I’m praying by the end we talk about tone...

    • @GlobalMiles
      @GlobalMiles Před 2 lety +1

      Continuing...I can’t express how much of a guitar God he was to so many of us in the day. Brilliant, economical, mysterious, gorgeous.
      I have one regret that I WON’T hold against him:
      1984, Orpheum Theatre Minneapolis, I forced my two HS buddies to stalk their tour bus (the one that breaks down) with the fantastic idea of saying hello to our idols. We all had one, Cy, Adam, and for me Jamie of course.
      We were denied as they were “tired.”
      We tried, we REALLY tried. ; ////
