  • We had an incredibly early ice-out on Lake Simcoe this year and I wanted to get some views of the rapidly departing ice before it was completely gone for the Spring/24 season.

    Been smelt fishing that lake since I was a teenager. Ice out was always 2nd week of April.

    Hi Paul! First, congrats on hitting 25k subscribers! Well deserved :) I suppose there are 8 or 9 Coronas scattered here and there after celebrating, maybe 6 or 7 of those are Anchor Girl's, lol. And indeed, wow, ice gone in mid-March!? Surreal but good for boating season, right? Look for palm trees starting to grow at the marina, woo-hoo! What a great view with that drone, it provides a better perspective, it makes reality sink in. I stopped making an ice-rink at home 3 years ago for the kids because of the warm weather (not that I'm complaining, ha). Well, you asked me to do a boating video and to let you know when I do... now you shall receive: I posted my first ever CZcams video this morning, finally, and of course it's about boating. "The Retired Boater" channel. Video: "Leap of Faith". It's my way to give back to you (and other boaters) who inspired me to buy a Sea Ray 2 years ago, to have fun, to have boat etiquette, and to be kind and considerate towards other boaters to embellish the experience of it all. You were right and it works, as shown in the video. Let's all keep being nice! Thanks again!

      Yes! It was nice to see that your marina is completely ice free as well, but I'm thinking that it never really freezes there anyway. Looked like a full on summer day in your last video!
      Best of luck with your new-to-you slip. Looking forward to seeing your launch video(s) as well.

      @@BoatingWithBoogaboo We got some ice this year, but just really on the surface. Nothing close to what you guys get! Hope your launch week is holding steady and you don't encounter any unexpected delays!

      Should be good, despite the return of winter-like conditions this week. Nothing to worry about, as we usually see one last gasp of winter every year at the end of March/beginning of April.
      Of course, this year's crazy warm weather has been something that we've never seen. In past winters, our lake (which is a very large body of water) will freeze anywhere from three to FIVE feet thick 🥶

    Thanks for the update on the lake and we're all waiting for Boogaboo to hit the water. I hope we can see the launch and the first start up of the Blues Brother and take care of your back by letting the younger guys do the bull work so we can see more, How To Videos my way. 🤣

      Hopefully the Spring weather stays in our favour. Don't think we're gonna be heading out on the lake that early though, as I like to wait for the winter debris to clear out as much as possible first.

    Worst winter for ice fishing ever and now it's cold again. It was weird looking out across the lake and seeing no huts. 2 years in a row no ice road to Georgina Island...

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 3 měsíci

      If things keep going this way, that ice road to the big island just may become a distant memory. That said, I read that they've renewed the idea of a causeway from the mainland at Virginia Beach. Hopefully it doesn't follow the suggested path, as it would obliterate what's left of the Sand Islands...

      @@BoatingWithBoogaboo never heard of the Causeway but change is never good. We used to fish til end of March early April but now forget it. It was very strange to see no huts out there 🤔

    Will you be polishing and waxing your boat this year, or having it done? And I never heard how you liked the sealant you used? Did you notice any improvement over regular polishing and waxing?

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I'm gonna have professionals take care of it this year. My back can't take the abuse anymore 👴 As for the polymer sealant, I think it survived better than the wax applications of past years. And being under cover this season will go a long way to protecting the deck from sun damage.

    Our Marina still has a bit of ice but lac St. Louis is ice free also. Last couple of years our water levels were extremely low by August, prop bending low, and this year looks like we are already starting low. Have you noticed water levels being much lower than normal also Paul?

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 3 měsíci

      Our water levels (locally on Lake Simcoe) appear to be maybe a little lower than normal for this time of the year, but that can change in a few days if we have a significant rain event. What most folks don't realize is that the Trent Severn Waterway - of which Lake Simcoe forms an integral part of - is influenced and controlled by a vast watershed that covers many thousands of square kilometres, over vast changes in elevations. All those factors play into the ultimate water levels throughout the navigation season.
      As timely as this subject is, I recently came across a news article discussing this very thing, and it included a very interesting and insightful overview of the system and how water management plays into it - as well as the impacts of global warming. You can read that article here; kawarthanow.com/2024/03/16/we-could-be-in-for-a-very-different-summer-officials-warn-of-potential-for-low-water-levels/
