I am so grateful for this video i was looming everywhere trying to find a way to shut down my 670g insulin pump. It is almost 12:30am and im trying to sleep but cant because of the constant alarm. So thank you so much!

I call it my 670g alarm clock. Stupid thing has so many nonsense alarms (like your blood sugar has been good for 2.5 hours, better to a BG test to make sure so we'll take you out of auto mode at 3am)! 37-yrs T1, been on Medtronic pumps for about 20-yrs. Just today switched to T-Slim. Hoping for a return to somewhat normalcy.

Thank you for this, I've had a nightmare with mine today, It's been draining batteries, I've been using a battery every two hours and it's been pure hell, had to go back on injections until I get a replacement pump next week, I'm not looking forward to going to bed as I haven't used a pen in 5 years but at least the annoying beeping has stopped lol
Oh my gosh I'm so sorry to hear this!!! That does indeed sound like hell! Occasionally I've had problems with a particular battery and changing it has helped, especially with the lithium ones, but this sounds like an entirely different issue. I hope your replacement pump came quickly and you were able to get back onto it with little disruption! I hear you - going back to pens after being on a pump can be SOOOOO HARD!!!! Really hope everything worked out well and that you're back to the normal pump/battery scenario!!

Thanks! I recently switched pumps and have a 670g that I couldn't figure out how to turn off. It started beeping at 3am to load a new reservoir so I loaded a fake one then set the basal to 0.025u/hr. The next time it would beep again would be about 500 days from now. Instead, I'll just use your method and shut it down correctly.
Just got my 770G and was wondering how to power off my 670G. I see it's the same as your 640G. Thanks!

Y u taking a break I'm now on omnipod I was in 670g but the guardian sensor 3 is so uncalled for on my body it was 300 on cgm and my meter was RESULTS OVER 600 or 600 it would say high often when it was also in normal range so I gave up and that warranty ended early i tjink so i was on dexcom g6 it caught me at a below 40 but I was 40 and never had that issue happen.
Omg why did I never think to use the clip to turn the battery cap!!
Besides that I haven’t had one in awhile bc they break so easy 😂

4 years I’ve been using the Minimed 670g and I just found out I can use the clip to open the battery cap! 😂

Yes, it does! I'm not sure about paired devices because I didn't use a paired device with it, but I know it keeps all basal settings, etc

perhaps you could also explain how to turn the machine on again? my daughter used a new sensor and turned the machine on but it is not working, we are now trying to contact Medtronic by phone. this helped to turn it off which we had not done before

After 17 years of T1D, I'm really considering the pump... I watched another video for you talking about the same struggle I have which is ( having something attached to you) ... I hate this idea, but I'm trying to be more realistic (after 17 years of diabetes: taking care of myself becomes the priority than this emotional struggle of having something attached to me) , I know that pumps are much better and easier than insulin pens...
The question is : I'm making a huge search for the best pump for me, and Medtronic 640g is one of my choices up to now ..Would you please give me a review about this pump as you're using it right now? and as it's your first pump?

I honestly never thought about reviewing my pump because I don’t really have anything to compare it to, but actually, given your questions, I actually feel a review could be beneficial. I thought I'd give you some of my experiences with the Medtronic device. I had the 640g but got it late enough that I qualified for the upgrade to the 670g when it was released. The 640 worked well, but I really wanted the 670's auto mode feature, since I was under very poor (brittle) control. My morning BG's ran around 250mg/dl on a daily basis, and I did not notice lows until they got down into the 40's (all my numbers will be MG/dl since that's what I'm used to). :) Because of this, I had no idea what was happening at night. Waking up and testing didn't seem to help. I spent 25 years dealing with this before breaking down and getting a pump. (not recommended).
I had some problems with the 670g at first because the sensor had a but which caused it to get stuck in a loop, requiring calibration over and over again. Once the FDA approved the fix, they were allowed to replace them with ones that worked much better.
At any rate with the latest iteration of the 670g sensor,. things run much smoother. You do have to calibrate, at least every 12 hours. I calibrate 3 times a day (breakfast, afternoon, and bedtime) once the initial round of calibrations is done. On first insertion, you will calibrate like every 5 hours or so for the first 3 or 4 times. After that, your unit keeps track of your BG and will alert you to both highs and lows, cutting off the basil if you reach your pre-determined (by you) low setting. It will also alert you very strongly if you ignore a low or high. It will also adjust your basil amount to keep your BG down to the 100 MG/dl range.
If you are running high, but not high enough to trigger an alert for more than 3 hours, it will let you know it's been giving you a "maximum" amount of insulin and require a test. If your test proves you are too high, it will suggest a bolus to help bring it back down.
If you are running low, but not low enough to trigger a low BG warning for more than 3 hours, it will let you know it's been giving you a "minimal" amount of insulin and suggest a test. (I don't get this one at all frankly. I would prefer it to alert me at the low setting and let me treat that. This is my second biggest problem with the system.
My number 1 issue with the system is the random "BG required" message. No reason, just do a test. I've never been able to narrow it down as to why these crop up. I've taken to calling my pump Torak (if you read the books, you'd get it). :). They don't happen anywhere near as often since the sensor update though.
Sensors should last 7 days, but sometimes fail for one reason or another. Medtronic will replace them if they fail early though. The sensor is rechargeable and should not need replacement unless it gets damaged.
For me, this has changed the amount of control I have over my BG dramatically. I am almost always in range, unless my body decides it doesn't want to behave (I go through periods of time where my BG will not go down for anything). At any rate, in spite of the now minor issues, I like the results I get overall., no matter how much I might grumble about it. I am keeping an eye out for new ones that will, one hopes duplicate the auto mode feature.
So, both the good and the bad from my experience. I hope it didn't muddy the waters more, and helps in your decision making.

@@katda7073 I hope you did decide to try pump therapy for a change. Remember, it's not like a tattoo, you can switch back to needles when ever you want! I hope you're doing well and feeling good. I just got a Tandem pump yesterday and using it's "auto" feature is life changing.
Ive been looking everywhere for info on my pump which I shut down a week ago just like in your video.
I dont like my new one and as such I am wanting to use that as an emergency spare.
I put a new battery back in my 640 but it wont power up :/

Hello thedivedeeper! Since I don't have the 670g I can't say for certain that the same steps apply. I've tried to look online but the answer is not clearly detailed anywhere. I would say your best bet is to call the Medtronic helpline and they should be able to advise you on this. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Can confirm that it works with the 670g. Had to replace mine, and send the one one back. Good to know UPS won't be hearing a beeping box throughout the trip.
does this save the pump settings at all?
Yes - all your pump settings are retained. You may just have to reset the time, if you shut it down for a long period of time, but all your carb ratios, basal rates, etc will remain intact.

Just a follow up to my previous comment left. We had to contact Medtronic to restart our 670G pump. apparently, this is a feature that is installed to all the 670G pumps.

@@JB-NZ the first time was on purpose, the last time it got hung up on my bike, ripped out and run over by all traffic on freeway...I did find it. There is absolutely NO SUPPORT with this as Ive got it through VA...have to fight for supplies ...
Edit: I thought it important to mention I can't even depend on VA to get ANY of my meds much less supplies for a $3k insulin pump.
Maybe if I was an illegal I would be "taken care of"
