In men's artistic gymnastics, floor exercise is the first event in the Olympic order.
The gymnast has 60 to 70 seconds to perform a mixture of acrobatic and non-acrobatic skills, including circles, scales, and press handstands.
Unlike women, men perform without music.
They are able to showcase strength, balance and elements of flexibility to create a harmonious rhythmic exercise.
In this video, we'll take a look at the 5 most difficult skills performed on floor.

I feel like it needs to be acknowledged how insane the Liukin was for that time. Not only was the skill unprecedented, but he was doing it on a floor with significantly less spring to it than today. Just amazing.
The Nargonyy is so impressive. Gymnastics should be admired way more in general. People would not believe what actually is a human body possible to do and it's gravity defying.
So so true! These divine gymnasts are for me the most inspiring athletes on this planet! The Liukin and Nagorny are simply unbelievable but it is the Liukin, which like the Prudonova is so breathtaking due to the insane speed it requires for those 3 saltos...BEYOND LEGENDARY...
Nagorny and Liukin are incredible difficult to perform due to the amount of height needed on the jump. Anyone who performs them deserves respect. Nargony is esp undervalued too. It's difficulty is much more than Liukin but it's only scored 0.1 higher.
A pity that gymnastics is mainly for short people. My height is 1.88 m (6.17 feet), so I can not relate myself to gymnasts and I can not achieve those accomplishments.
@@user-xm9jh7me8z I'm almost 180cm and I practise gymnastics and it's only time I wish to be shorter. 😅 But no one at our gym is particulary short, we also have taller people than myself, so it's possible. You only could not be a professional I guess with such height. But you can do gymnastics with any height and learn lots of stuff.
@@demonsalwayswin Alexander Shatilov is 184 cm. Kristian Thomas is 180 cm. its more difficult, but its possible
Nikita is crazy impressive
I am almost sure he has a youtube channel too! Нагорный
@@AntonAdelson he has and it's very cool.
Liukin was way ahead of his time.
Shirai III and Nagornyy absolutely the most incredible and insane!!!...
And look at Jade Carey doing it big!
@@marcelle215 I was about to write the same. It would be so cool if she competed it and got the skill named after her in women’s gymnastics
I want to apologize in advance for the pronunciation of “the Zapata”. It sounds “very english” 😅 I don’t do the voice overs so there are things out of my control. Thank you so much & please keep the comment section respectful 🙏🏼
Pa mi gente de España, que me perdonen ❤️
No worries
Don't sweat it. Please do rings and high bar next. Would love to know if anyone is close to the reverse planche and front layout release
No te preocupes❤️
Alguien sabe de qué país es el creador de este canal?
@@misoginainternalizadaopres7131 Diría casi con total seguridad que es de Brasil. Alguna vez he visto a Sporteverywhere escribir en portugués respondiendo a fans brasileños.
What I love about The Nagorny is that Nikita’s running is so relaxed like he wants to catch the bus or something 🤣👌🏽
The Nargorny is the most impressive skill, in part because it was performed so well.
I did not expect to see a drag queen I follow on insta in these comments, but at least it helped me find your youtube channel. Thanks for my drag intro a couple years ago hahaha
Yes and I think it is severely undervalued by the FIG. Tuck is an "H" and triple pike only 0.1 higher than that? Come on. That doesn't make sense.
I am almost sure he has a youtube channel too! Нагорный
Next year there will probably be a new addition to this list from Nikita Nagornyy. This man has been practicing an even harder skill than his triple pike. The new skill is a Triple salto backward tucked with 1/1 turn or better known as a full twisting triple back. I remember when he first started competing the Liukin everyone thought it was impressive and now he’s adding a full twist to it.
Shirai III 😍😍😍😍😍
Nikita Nagornyy triple pike it's insane! He's a living legend.
Nikita is so massive and powerful. Hope he wins all around in Tokio
He didn’t
@@chaiboix he got bronze
@@nathan10120 mhm
Good lord these are all insane, for some reason the double lay with three twists hits harder than the rest for me lol
Nagornyy just competed in the tokyo olympics and his first line was his famous triple back pike. Though he messed it up and stumbled off the floor and got one of the lowest scores out of all the others. Just sad😢
The Nagornyy is my favorite
These divine gymnasts are for me the most inspiring athletes on this planet! The Liukin and Nagorny are simply unbelievable but it is the Liukin, which like the Prudonova is so breathtaking due to the insane speed it requires for those 3 saltos...BEYOND LEGENDARY...
I love to see the shirai III, it is such a elegant element! The Nagorny is just WOW!
I would like to see the most difficult high bar skills! I'm always on edge when watching high bar finals but at the same time it's sooooo fun to watch!
Thanks for making this. Informative, concise, and entertaining. Liking just in time for the summer Olympics.
triple double laid out is insane ..... triple pike is just incredible these men are superhumans
Love that you’re also including men’s gymnastics!
Nikita should perform double-double fwd to get another extremely difficult acrobatic skill named after him
That and his full in triple back! Both he has landed.
The Zapata II is still missing in this video.
THE ZAPATA II
Performed at the 2021 Apparatus World Cup in Doha (QAT) by Rayderley Zapata (ESP)
Apparatus: Floor Exercise
Element description: Double salto forward straight with 3/2 turn.
Element value: I (0.9 difficulty)
Name awarded: The Zapata II
Layout Zapada himself is also insane. Since Yuri Korolev did front double in 1981 front skills finally evolved dramatically.
What I don't get is why Nikita does a pretty wide cowboy when he tucks his triple back but then is suuuper comfortable when he performs the triple pike?? It's crazy. I feel like his execution is much better on the harder skill. :o
That’s a good point. I’ve thought about it myself. I’m thinking it’s just form habits at this point. Even with his triple pike, which is massive, he still bends his knees, has a small leg separation, and has flexed ankles. He has the power, but would love to see him clean up some of the small things where he loses small tenths.
When you hit it right, pikes generate a lot of rotation. Some argue you can rotate faster piked than tucked. Has to do with pulling your feet over your head as opposed to knees to your chest. But piked flips are also way more technical, which makes them harder even though they can seem to flip easier.
@@ianstratton1629 Interesting! Thanks for sharing.
I thought Shirai already submitted the quadruple twisting LO.
The Nagorny just woooow 🤩🤩💪💪💪
I could listen to this voice literally all day
The nikita is the first ever I- rated skill on floor in men and women?
THAT IS CRAZYYYYYYY
The last one is my fave
Amazing !! 🤩🤩🤩
Great video ! Could you make a video about the changes in the new code of point ? Thanks 😄
Rings and high bar next!! ❤❤😎👍
The Nagornyy is doing his Triple Backward Pike.
amazing all of them😮
Yay, my boy Kenzo!!!
Double triple looks neat & mastered. The others need a bit more control on the landings.
They're all bloody impressive, though!!
The Nagornyy - this guy is so on top of his game and what a DIFFICULT skill. He makes it look easy…
Now he’s working on a even harder skill, a full twisting triple back
Looking forward to a triple layout already xD
Why isn’t the full layout Quad listed in this grouping of most difficult floor exercise skills?
I still don't understand why the shirai III isn't an I skill. Great video
WOW!
The Zapata the Shirai III and the Triple Back Piked!
Shirai III, come on! Bravo
Kenzo Shirai !
Can u do one on rings
Oh wow you can say the Japanese R-sound correctly! Much respect. 😃 Many people don’t bother to learn it.
The olympic commission needs to give men music too on floor because everything looks better with music
Personally I think shirai III is harder to perform than Nagornyy, the shirai skill is combined 2 skills which you have to perform at the same time to create Shirai III skill.
The Nagornyy needs a lot more power and height to finish all three salto‘s than the Shirai III
All!. But the Zapata rules!
Nagorny absolutely 💪🏽
Can’t believe “liukin “ is from 30 some years ago and is still very light!
Awesome video, thanks! I have been wanting to watch videos of men doing double layouts but I haven't found any! There's an idea for a compilation if I may, haha. Cheers!
Great idea. Maybe double layout variations 🤔 thank youu
I'm just, as many others, a big fan of double layouts. There's compilation videos in women's gymnastics but not for the men! ^^
@@sebasrm1 hi! i would recommend watching either paul hamm or the chinese men back in the 90’s.
Tbh this is kind of why i quite gymnastics. The girls had the fun events like uneven bars and played music during floor routines
and balance beam. Why can't men do balance beam
Geez, up until now I had no idea someone had done a triple pike in a floor routine. Crazy.
Just stumbled across this video again and I somehow still didn't know someone had done triple pike on floor.
This is one thing I love to watch and wish I could do it!!!
Zapata and Nagornyy ❤️
Finally
how about doing a vid on the 5 highest rated non-tumbling floor skills?
Nagornyi and Lukin's skills are most difficult and impressive!
The shirai 3 looks more difficult than nagorny tho
Twisting elements are always underated
@@wafayafine1787 indeedd ,triple twisting doble lay out seem sooo hard
Yes I agree, that’s a layout skill you need to stay in good shape and combine 2 skills at the same time, you have to perform quite fast and clean
looks can be deceiving
why gymnastic elements names are so cool
I really love Liukin
I am a gymnast, I post some stuff on my channel but this stuff is insane!!
The second skill in the video, the double layout with 2 and a half twist, isn't named after a gymnast like the Zapata, the Liukin and the others?
There is also a new skill.
The Zapata 2: Double front layout with 1 and a half twist
It is rated I
Nikita is actually cute 😍🥰😊
I'm pretty sure the Shirai 3 or III is actually called The Miller by Wayne Miller back in the 60s on a trampoline, but this was done by other people in the 70s in Olympics. So doesn't make sense to call it that when the guy did it in 2015, still crazy to do though.
he's the first to do on floor so it can be named after him - but - the term Miller is understood by all advanced gymnasts
Why is a front twisting whatever harder than a backwards one? Like a zapata?
Me: i can't even do a cartwheel!!
*grabs my beer
Me: hold on nevermind.. let me do this quadruple backflip
I would so love to see men competing with music and dance elements (not the point of the video, I know, just came to mind)
Same!
The Liukin's old news. They're doing triple back pikes now. Crazy stuff indeed.
2:25 when you triple double layout o thought like a triple double layout with 3 Flips no twist
Jade Carey about to get the Shirai iii named after her in WAG...
What a beast
I truly hope she is able to throw it in Tokyo. But if not, maybe next World's. But from what I saw, she's pretty close.
@@DizzyedUpGirl Jade being able to throw this at all is ah-mazing! But I'm nervous for her to compete it in Tokyo.
I agree-maybe Worlds? Just makes me nervous because, should Tokyo be the FIRST time she tries this in competition???
The triple pike is nuts …
I thought that female gymnastics was the best but today is the first time that I analyze the gymnasts boys and that exceeded my expectations, the men did magic in gymnastics with their beautiful movements and technique.❤❤❤❤❤❤💪👏
you couldn’t appreciate both?
How about triple front somersault
The Nagornyy, of course))
Front layout w/ 3 1/2 twists...art in motion.
Shirai twisting master
Nidal be like: Bro this is so ez
*does it without a mat*
Vamos Zapataaaaaa!!!!
Pleasa do ring event
I wish the non-acrobatic elements got more weight. I miss the elegance of older floor routines.
I thought zapata also did it layer out.
Is there any triple layout?
Not in MAG. As far as I know, only Kristof Willerton has competed a triple layout in men's power tumbling. That was on a rod floor, (bouncier than an artistic spring floor like you see here), and with the kinetic energy of roughly 80' of accelerating whips to help him build power. Doing a triple layout on a square floor is a considerably more difficult prospect.
Here are Willerton's passes from the invitational where he debuted the triple layout: czcams.com/video/Wawhph2QMXY/video.html
Has anyone ever done a front handspring into a front double layout?
No.
@@kp395 so is it easy and that's why no one does it?
@@onetwocue It is not. You would need an insane amount of heel drive to do it and probably a triple front tucked would be easier.
@@finnhall9478 it would be, double front layouts are even hard on a trampoline
How TF do they get so high lol they look like sonic the hedgehog
Was the Zapata downgraded in the 22-24 CoP?
What's the most impressive of them? ALL OF THEM!! These guys are the closest we have to actual superheroes. By now, about 150 men have run 100m in under 10sec, but you won't find even a handful of people being able to perform any of these skills.
zepata = front handspring to full half tuck
what about the 4 twist? is not in code of points?
It is rated F, created by Kenzo Shirai back in 2013.
Twisting is underrated
You miss the zapata II
It's like zapata but straigt
It's so beautiful
Nikita 🤩🔥😍
can gymnasts create their own new moves and get points for it?
they can indeed but the only "points" are by D-score - you can create a skill that has a low D value
Liukin was my favourite because it seems to be higher than the nagornyy
who has completed a triple front flip ?
The triple piked back is so beautiful and difficult and dangerous
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LAYOUT QUAD TWIST DONE BY A JAPANESE GYMNAST, I BELIEVE?
