    I grew up along the Trent Severn near Fenelon Falls. Having an ice cream cone, watching boats go through the Locks was an everyday event. Now I live near the 1000 Islands and love that too. Waving hello from Ottawa 🇨🇦

      We had a cottage outside of Buckhorn as a child. We would go to the locks, watch the boats and eat ice cream. Great memories. 😊

    The Rideau Canal is quite a bit older than the Trent-Severn. The Rideau was completed in the early 1830s as a military route (followig the War of 1812) to allow troops and supplies to be moved around Upper Canada far away from the American army. A bit of the Trent-Severn was started as a defensive work around the same time but the part you show was built a half century later. There was a lot of progress in the construction of waterways in the 19th century.

    Thanks for making videos like this. I just have a fishing boat, but it is neat to see the experience from other boaters.

    A longtime windsurfer here, have sailed Lake Ontario in Gail warnings numerous times.
    Lots of fun on a windsurfer. Totally treacherous in small craft.
    My 13 foot mast was disappearing in a video shot from shore while sailing in the troughs.
    Nearby Lake Simcoe is even worse as 6 foot waves have a period one third of lake Ontario. Instant swamping if you get abeam in thise conditions.
    Glad you had fun.

      Ah yes, best to treat those Lakes like oceans. Yes and have been on Lake Simcoe although it was fairly docile when we went through it. ❤️🇨🇦

      @@WhatYachtToDo We've all seen Haulover Inlet.
      The ENTIRE LAKE becomes that in a small craft warning on Simcoe.
      Nothing with a motor goes out.
      Total party for windsurfing though.
      Happy motoring.

    Good thing you waited, I would have hated to see what it could have been like. Rough sea day on boat is still better than sitting at my desk 🙂 I hope you two youngsters are having a great new year. Be well and best wishes.

    Those swing bridges have been upgraded. When I went through them 20 years ago, a man would run down to the bank with a cup on the end of a stick where you would put five bucks in for your passage fee! And, no change was provided if you put a larger bill in!"-)

    • @WhatYachtToDo
      @WhatYachtToDo  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes! I don't think it was too long ago that they changed because I had some locals tell me about the basket on a stick! 😎

    Rough, meaning ruffled? Any wave taller than 12 inches is considered rough on the Great Lakes.

    Hey following your post excellent time and enjoyed your postings. These postings included west side of Lake Michigan. You mentioned the first loop you did the eastern side. Assume you recorded that trip eastern side as you have the western side. Could you please let me know what the episodes or loop numbers for those trips on the east side of Lake Michigan

    • @WhatYachtToDo
      @WhatYachtToDo  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hey Steve, if you go to our CZcams homepage, and select the first Loop, you will see the trips there that correspond to the Eastern side of Lake Michigan. On our second Loop but you can also find that playlist on our CZcams channel, we did the western side of Lake Michigan. 😎
      All the trips are numbered in sequence.
