A little while ago my good friend Chris Riley sent me a picture on instagram and asked if it was real. What I was looking at was really strange, it looks like a mash up between a regular coke can and a plastic bag?
So for today's experiment, we’re going to see if we can dissolve the outside of coke can and see if there actually is a plastic bag on the inside of the can.
Were going to add some sodium hydroxide to a beaker of water to dissolve the aluminum can When we mix this solution it actually gives off heat as an exothermic reaction. For our Coke Can experiment we sanded off the paint on the outside to get to just the aluminum underneath.
After watching a steve spangler video I learned that the process of putting a plastic liner in cans has been going on since 1934
And the reason for this is that the carbonic acid and other ingredients in the soda would react with the aluminum if there were no liner and make the drink taste metallic, not to mention that’s really bad for you!

The epoxy is tree resin based, it causes no enviromental pollution in the Recycling Prozess because it burns down to carbondioxid and water. When the epoxy is exposed to light, it decomposes into the same components after some time. It is a good solution.

all metal cans have a plastic liner, its sprayed on not really a bag, to keep it from corroding and or rusting.
but coke or other pop in clear plastic bottles has brominated vegetable oil (BVO) to protect from sunlight.

To set things straight no it is not a bag. It is a protective coating to protect the aluminum from reacting and/or eating away at the aluminum due to the acids in the fluid inside. I've worked in a factory - Ball Corp. that produces coca cola cans and my main area was the area where the cans were sprayed with this coating

NAVEEN RAJ the plastic is a protective layer between the soda and the aluminum, prevents you from consuming the aluminum and getting sick. I would assume most if not all canned drinks have this same thing.
