I watched the first episode of blown away my first thought was “Cool Nick has a Netflix show now.” And after that first episode I was like oh... now I’m hooked
There is a technique where you take the glass still liquid and you straigh up put water, it cracks but at the same time the glass shrinks, puting all togueter, making it look like it's about to fall into peaces

You were probably having all those blowouts because the tip of the jolly rancher mass (furthest from the pipe) was hotter than the rest. In glassblowing, we usually marver once at a high angle to cool the tip so it doesn't blow through. Good luck!
I'm not gonna lie... due to my dirty mind, those bubbles, most of the time look like ball sacks... especially the first one... still you did an amazing job dudes... keep that work and that energy... all of you... and congrats once again for the show...!!! take care...!!! :3
It was fun watching you have so much fun! I think you should keep practicing with the jolly ranchers and remember that the sugar where it's thick stays soft much longer than molten glass so you could set up a small fan just to blow cooler air on the parts that you want to stay more contained as you work. You got the skills!
The easiest way to pop a bubble while glass blowing with a larger pipe is to blow into the pipe and cover it with your thumb, the heat causes the air to expand and creates a bubble!! Doing this creates more pressure than a normal humans breathe could muster
I wonder: as soon as you blow a bubble how about you pinch the end of it by the straw to block the air inside because so far all the air is escaping and taken away from the shape
From the minimal glassblowing I have done, I will say that to get a good bubble to form, you generally want a specific shape in the stuff at the end of the pipe. If it is super globular, you're probably not going to get the best bubble possible.
I knew I recognized you from some where!!! Who would of guessed CZcams lol. I watched all of episodes waiting for season 2. I love the show it is beautiful and amazing. I loved Edger but he could of done better with the eye but I'm happy with who won.
Also if you marver the tip after heating you can directly control wall thickness so it doesn't blow thin and collapse. French pastry chef vids often highlight sugar glass blowing

Nick!! My boyfriend and I totally accidentally stumbled across the show Blown Away on Netflix. At first he wasn’t sure about it but two episodes in, he was hooked! We watched the whole season in one day!! When can we expect the next season? Also crazy how your video popped up in my recommendations the day after I watched the show!!
What can be substituted for that heat gun? Can you microwave the candy to soften it? I suggest you keep it slightly heated as you blow if using a huge piece. It would make it easier to blow since the heat softens it.
The hilarious thing is that I was watching Blown Away last night and I saw this in my recommended and I said 'hm, that's cool this reminds me of Blown Away' (I finished the episode where candy blowing was very briefly brought up last night) I love the show!

jolly ranchers are glass, in the jolly rancher they add corn syrup. What cirn syrup does is it kinda prevents the ability for the sugar ti fully crystalize. What that means is it's never quite taking a shape. Technically glass is defined as a non crystalline transparent solid and thats pretty much what a jolly rancher is sugar glass. And when we think if glass we normally think of soda line glass. A jolly rancher is also technically glass it's just that it isn't made up of silica but the base product sugar. So a jolly rancher is glass.

At your first attempt, you should have capped the end of the straw to keep the air from escaping so it wouldn't have looked like balls. 🤣 It also broke because the punty got too cold and you accidentally knocked the end. The tiniest shock would break it off naturally. You could have done a roll up and easily made a jolly rancher cup! 😆 Super fun video! I definitely want to try this now.
This reminded me of the sugar candy blowing to form different figurines and animals in China. They called it sugar-blowing of molten sugar similar to glass blowing. The candies are fancy looking and taste great!
