  • Monkey Wrench Mike may have discovered the reason his S55 AMG was starved for oil and broke a valve spring. In this video he shows you how to drop an oil pan and inspect the oil pump.

The oilmixture in the pan shows oil-water agglomorates. That means water is getting into the oil. You should have pressurized the water tank while the pan was off. This shows you where the water leaks down. Is it headgasket or front timing cover seals.
Other thing, the oil cooler will be clogged as well.

You could pimp Lola out to get more followers. Just kidding.
Since that oil looked that bad I'd say you need to put some cleaners in your oil to clean all the nooks and crannies up in the engine. I'd of taken the pump off to make sure nothing is stuck further up in there.

change all the springs on the head where the problem was. I would pull the other valve cover and inspect the springs on that head. if they appear good button up the engine put cheap oil and engine flush. then run the engine for at least 15 minutes, then fresh oil and filter. cross your fingers and click your heels together twice. and have a happy new year and we will catch your videos in 2021.

I can't see how the engine will turn out okay after having run probably quite a bit with water mixed in with the oil and something at least partially clogging the oil pump. Very satisfying finding exactly what is causing the oil starvation and luckily it looks like the oil pump should be good. I am still not sure if that valve is bent or not but it is definitely worth trying the one spring. Not sure if you should do the rest. Maybe if its cheap enough and relatively easy to do then that will be be a sign to do as many as you can

Oil coagulation- we had a 2003 CTS that had a small crack in its block and it was always missing a little coolant in between oil changes. The oil and coolant never looked bad. Near the end of its warranty it coagulated enough to clog the oil pickup tube and wow it sounded like a Diesel engine but it didn’t start throwing rods until we got to Cadillac. They said they had never seen anything like it so they sent some of the blob to be tested. It consisted of oil and coolant. You could send the blobby stuff to a lab to be tested so you know for sure if it is coolant or metal contamination. ProjectFarm on YT uses a lab and I can’t remember the name of the lab. Cadillac replaced the engine.
