- A lot of things happened between the end of Blade Runner in 2019 and the new Blade Runner 2049. Three short movies, set in the years 2022, 2036 and 2048 tell us the events that transpired in these years. Watch it before you see Blade Runner 2049. (But go see it, it is amazing!)
Black Out 2022: In 2022, an EMP detonation has caused a global blackout that has massive, destructive implications all over the world. Directed by Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo's Shinichiro Watanabe, Blade Runner Black Out 2022 is a new and highly-anticipated animated short which serves as a prologue for the upcoming feature film Blade Runner 2049.
2036: Nexus Dawn: Welcome to 2036. Niander Wallace introduces his new line of replicants.
2048: Nowhere to Run: Journey into the world 2049 with a replicant on the run. Dave Bautista is Sapper Morton.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Anyone else amazed at Dave Batista's acting ability?
Impressed but not amazed. He's shown his chops in all his last projects.
Stage Wrestling is a form of (although hammy) acting mixed with advanced stunt work, so its not really surprising that he is a capable actor. But still very much appreciated.
I think Dave is doing really well in movies. Better than many so called Real actors... and i am happy to see his talent getting recognition. I hope to see him get more film work in the future and in a variety of genres. So far, he has proven to handle himself well in both drama and action... And GOTG shows that he has comedic timing as well. ☺️
Yeah I was thinking that too. Pretty soon we'll see him get a leading role in something. I think he's ready.

These shorts are fantastic. While I pretty much got the story from the movie, these details add some wonderful depth.
Also, Dave Bautista is a legitimately terrific actor. The Rock is great and entertaining, but he has never come close to the nuanced performance of Bautista in blade runner. He also shows off some great chops in guardians here and there. I hope he gets some more juicy roles.
All true. Dave Bautista has shown more growth and development as an actor who has evolved from pro-wrestling to film. Dave was great in BR 2049 & GOTG.

Bautista does the speak softly but carry a big stick character very well.
If you like Dave's acting, see him in "Hotel Artemis" with Jodi Foster. Best thing I've seen him do!

Yea, dayum. And he didn't disappoint. The opening of the final credit song also sounds a lot like "Blue" which ran at the end of Cowboy Bebop.

Thank you Shinichiro Wantanabe... nobody does anime like this anymore. Cowboy Bebop goes to the number one spot of episodic series in anime for me. Nothing touches it. Nothing. I want to see an entire blade runner series in anime now.
The problem i have with it is it feels too much like Bebop. It also feels too much like Ghost in the Shell. Nothing here besides the environment screams Blade Runner.

I knew it!!!! After watching Ghost in the Shell and Animatrix, I always thought they need to do a Blade Runner animation. Anime always fits perfectly with the Cyberpunk genre, especially when its Blade Runner. This further confirms it. If they decided to do a full series or a full movie, I'll be there!! But they better use animation as good quality as this, 'Cause Blade Runner doesn't deserve crappy animation

You should check out Jodorowskys Dune. He was to make the original but the project got out of hand and got cancelled. Eventually David Lynch took over. Very interesting.

Hello the 3 shorts are amazing, love them. I heard an easter egg, I need to share it. Between 24:55 and 25:00 we can hear a woman speaking japanese in the background. It's actually a sample from Lost in translation : listen to the first second of the movie's soundtrack and you'll hear it. I don't know if it's a reference of if just the two movie used the same sound sample randomly, but that's funny enough to me, so I share it.

What a depressingly bleak future, it couldn't be farther from the real world if it tried, In the Blade Runner universe , everything is primitive, dirty, polluted and violent. and it is heavily implied that the off world colonies are as bad if not worse than Earth.

While watching the animated short, I was thinking that it has some Cowboy Bebop and Animatrix vibes. Then I found out that the director of the animated short `Blade Runner 2022`, Shinichirō Watanabe, is also the director of `Cowboy Bebop` and some episodes of the `Animatrix`.

Black Out 2022 was awesome - dug that Matrix vibe...
Want more now with sapper Morton.dam good replicant with a good heart if they have one.even after what he's bin through being a nexus 6 model he's seen some things.and after all that still helping humans out by having a protein farm so he was helping feed the human population.sad when k had to retire him.
All 3 are kind of high-budget "fan films" in that they're obsessively mining material between the two official releases, and kind of nerdy, BUT, the anime film had the "unlimited visual budget" to show the cataclysmic events between the two movies, and does it really well. The middle movie is cringeworthy to me because Leto's Wallace is a silly Bond-villain, and the weakest link in "2049". His part should have gone to a much older and more subtle actor, and maybe even someone who projects enormous kindness and decency, like British actors Mark Rylance ("Dunkirk") or Jim Broadbent ("Another Year"), for instance. Leto's mannered "villain" speeches had my eyes rolling! The last story certainly feels the most like the Ridley's original, but maybe only superficially; it's the least original or mysterious in story content of the 3 and, by comparison, surprisingly shows how even top-notch digital STILL lacks the visual depth and beauty of actual film! I'm still happy they made all of these, but the 1982 bar was set SO ridiculously high!

Aha! It is similar concept that created a short animation film by 'Snowpiercer at 2015.' Blade Runner 2049 also shows a short animation for the audience. I believe that Direct 'Bong Jun Ho' and 'Denis' are the great movie direct for several decade. Bong also had a chance to direct the movie, 'Arrival' but missed by his other movie schedule. I like both Bong's movie, 'Memories of Murderer, Host, Mother, and Snowpiercer,' and Denis's 'Arrival, and Blade Runner 2049.'
Bong Joon-ho is miles above Denis Villeneuve as a film director.
I thank the powers everyday for Nolan and Villeneuve. Please let them and those they collaborate with to be the defining filmmakers of our time and not the deceivers such as JJ Abrams.

Alternate reality
This is a world where Panam and Atari are still going strong. Even the Soviet Union is still in place, according to one hologram in the new movie. The universe may be rooted is ours but it also has diverged significantly. Given that the timeline of the original movie is supposed to happen in 2019, it makes sense that the creators would assume the fact that this is not our universe.
