I noticed that night time tours of my garden has lead to less pests. I find bugs with a regular flash light and I heard a black light works even better. Any mammals that feed off of a garden seem to not want to be around if I am outside at night. I love a night tour, Gardens are just better at night for some reason. Peppers are trees BTW, they grow like trees in the tropics and their stalk turns to wood. When I have a coop with electricity I just put the bug zappers right in the coop to feed chickens. Not that I need dead bugs in the coop like you do the green house, I just like to provide some morning scratch for the chickens.

Your greenhouse plants are incredible! I continue to be amazed to see them doing so well in the heat of summer. That C-130 flying by is what we call “the sound of freedom.” We have C-130s from Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah GA, F/A-18s from MCAS in Beaufort SC, and various other fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft flying low and loud over our house on a fairly regular basis. It’s a little disconcerting and exhilarating at the same time when it happens. Thanks for the nighttime greenhouse tour.

      @Emeraldwitch30 Před 4 lety +1

My husband was in the air force back in early 80s and was a load master on a C-130. He loves flying. We occasionally get the jets and big duel rotor helicopters that are from the big base in Grayling (or is it Gaylord) here in michigan fly right over the house. Boy oh boy does that rattle the windows lol they are on their way to Detroit and other places.
Next time the neighbors complain. I'm going to borrow your expression "sound and feel if freedom" thanks

I sent Marines in out of Vietnam using C-130's, C-121's, C-118 and C141's. Back in the early 70's from the Phillipines. Lived at Parris Island and came back to Beaufort Marine airbase. They had Harriers back then. I liked the planes but never liked being in the Marine Corp.

Oh my goodness I grew up in Alaska my dream is to move back and get a cabin or a trailer to live with me and my two dogs as long as it has a wood fire and I want a greenhouse like that to grow food, and weed ( it helps my Addison's disease) and just enjoy the rest of my life close to my neices and nephews and to be back in Alaska would be wonderful. I love watching your videos! When I get stressed or get really sick and have insomnia it just comforts me and makes me feel better! Keep making your wonderful videos! Right now I live with my folks in Washington and my dad has a big garden it's always wonderful when you grow your own food. Our blueberry's are the best this year and our blackberries are coming in right now and starting to ripen. The tomatoes are really not doing well this year but every year can't be perfect! 😂 I am such a fan of your work!! Thank you for making such wonderful videos that keep me company when I am sick it is much appreciated!!

I've gotten 4 Dwarf Apples and a Semi-dwarf Orcas Pear tree, to go with my Bartlett pears. Nice trees. They are the old hardy trees Liberty, Williams Pride and Enterprise. Everything in the greenhouse looks amazing!! You two have certainly put your all into it. My little greenhouse arrived a few days ago. With all life is throwing around right now, I'm of the mindset to "do what you can with what you've got where you are" so a small 5' x 5' is what I have to work with, but I will make it work. I do have a question about your dwarf Red Haven peach trees. I bought 2 and they both still look totally dead. However, one looks like it's growing a new tree from the roots near the edge of the pot. Should I trim away the dead tree (it's about 3-4 ft tall with several branches) and transplant the part that is growing into a bigger/better container? It's only about 6-8 inches tall right now and I don't want to lose it. Thanks. Love the tour. Much love and blessings!!

It's so nice to see people that love all the little things in the garden as much as I do while out walking in my garden and doing the rounds.
I took a page from your book about really looking at everything, every day and have been able to head off some problems before they've become worse.
I used to ignore my asparagus after done harvesting and just let it go well I've had issues with asparagus beetles.
Well after checking I saw tiny little grubs all over several of the big fronds, come to find out. That's the baby form of the beetle. The control is just spraying with good blast of water from the hose. So I'm hoping to not have as many adults next year.
And I've always been a tomato hornworm hunter as my uncle and dad would pay me a nickle a hornworm to keep them off the plants for going to the county 4-H fair. But the past few years I made it a mission to figure out the life cycle. From the little white/black pearl eggs to the small worms to the parasitic wasp infected worms(oh those are cool to find and are left in the garden) to this year I bought a UV flashlight set.
They do glow in the dark! It's been really really easier to find them small before they destroy the plants. I might pick up some Bt but I kinda like hunting them down and hand picking them for my leopard gecko and chickens.
But I did notice this year that one type of plant seems to be getting the brunt of the hornworms, I know it's not scientific but this is the only hybrid I am growing this year as my grandkiddos love them from the farm stand. Yellow jelly bean I have pulled about 30, 1/2 to 1 inch sized hornworms in 4 days. All the rest are heirlooms that I save seed from year to year for.
The second plant that seems to be a target is a new heirloom to me this year from Baker creek. Chocolate pear it had about 8. I'm not saying I havent seen/found hornworms on the others but it's more like one egg here and there. Maybe 1 on a couple other plants. But most in the big garden have none.
The two types that had them are in the secondary garden by the chickens. I do wonder if its because it's a hybrid or maybe just location? I plan to grow again next year and rotate my garden plants so I'm going to really pay attention next year.
But careful observations are really making a difference.
And wandering the garden and enjoying the little things is so stress relieving. Snacking on sugar snap peas raspberries and the new everbearing strawberries as they ripen up are just a pure joy.
I sprinkled dill here and there all over the garden and you are so right about how lovely it smells I've even pickled garlic with it but my cucumbers are not happy this year so I might have to go buy a 1/2 bushel to pickle for my grandson.
My garden is no where as big as yours(yet) or as far along as us northern gardeners have different seasons than you but it's right where it should be for now.
But I get excited over every new little discovery and I see the same in you and ms Wanda and think we need a lot more people like y'all in the world!
Thanks for sharing your world with us and for all your advice. 🥰💖
