Parakeet Learning Tricks - Full Session

- This is the entire session for Kailani learning to do a circle/spin on her perch. I know CZcams'rs have ADD so I have the summarized version of this video, but for the people looking to train this themselves, I know they'd appreciate the entire session!
We have had Kailani, our Budgie, for 11 days now and she's learning tricks very quickly through target and clicker training! This is her second time on this perch my husband made for her. Yesterday we introduced the perch and started neutralizing to my hands being over top of her as well as following the target stick around the perch as the foundation for turning around on cue on the perch. Today, we got an entire circle and started to introduce the hand signal that I will use to cue the circles.
We also see her step up on my hand WITHOUT the target stick as a cue - just my hand being there being the cue. She was very nervous about hands in the beginning so this is a big step! We also have had her step up on 4 different people.
I realize this video is old but it regularly gets comments on it which I tend to reply to in one of my other channel names. I’m going to answer a couple frequently asked questions/comments right here:
1) this cage and set up was TEMPORARY while we tamed and bonded with her. She had a large flight cage which we have had for years she moved to within three weeks of acquiring her.
2) the dogs bark because I’m a dog trainer by trade and they heard the clicker. They (like all my animals) love training. In other videos I was more proactive in keeping the dogs quiet but here I didn’t think that far ahead.
3) the cat never eats the bird
4) the bird gets friends again after the initial taming process.
5) the bird gets a fully decked out cage with toys and all the things but even better she is never forced to spend 24hrs a day in a cage because we took so much time in the first couple weeks to tame her and train her giving her the opportunity to live a far more enriching life then most pet birds.
We had our parakeet in a smaller cage at first, too, just for 2 weeks when we first got him and it really helped to bond and tame him. People in CZcams comments will FLIP OUT on everyone, so robotically, posting the exact same comment as every single other person, because they all watched the same Elle and the Birds and Marlene McCohen or whomever videos that repeat over and over again “GET THE BIGGEST CAGE YOU CAN!” So they think they’re doing a public service to keep repeating these mantras. Omg it’s so annoying. Like we don’t all know this 🙄
Anyway you did a great job and I, for one, appreciate the TRAINING aspects of the video
@@nicolehubert7308 You did an amazing job!
I would recommend a larger cage, like a flight cage.
Your parrot’s cage should be 3 times their wingspan
@@nicolehubert7308 everyone on CZcams comments is a bird expert. And they all have the exact same expertise that they got from the exact same places. It gets tiresome, doesn’t it?
@@WonderfulWorldofAwesomeness no the bird needs a better cage
Your budgie is soo cute💕.MashaAllah😊
Mashallah mashallah
Maşallah 👳♂️🇹🇷
I would recommend a bigger cage or sticks for perches! You have a very pretty bird!
That is a temporary cage that they used just for training :) she has a big flight cage now!
I use a plastic bread tab to hold open my parakeet's cage. Very cute training and I have the same clickr! I want to try to get my parakeet to spin and do more tricks. Thanks for posting!
Where do I get the clicker from?
For those of you commenting about her care:
1. The budgie isn’t lonely, and it’s okay for her to be alone. The owner obviously takes the budgie out daily for company, exercise, and playtime. You CAN buy a budgie alone as long as you provide company and care.
2. For those of you complaining about the small cage, with one toy and one perch, that cage is her “training” cage. The cage is being used for easier taming and training. She really lives in a large flight cage with lots of perches and toys.
how does it help with taming and training?

It's never okay for a budgie to be alone. Humans can never replace another bird. You are never there for it 24/7. If you work you are away most of the time. Also humans are another species and can't communicate and interact the same
My birds tease my cats when they are in the cage
Omg sammeee hahhaa

Sorry the cats was so cute I couldn’t resist
Love your cute budgie and the training. I must say, though, that the dogs in the background don't do your great training video service.
@@nicolehubert7308 my birds are the same. One bird hears me working with another bird and goes crazy, wanting his treat that he knows the clicker represents. It’s just a sign of a well trained pet. Don’t worry about all of the negative comments. People online always have some reason to criticize. Let them open their lives up to others and see all of the negative comments, and see how THEY feel. Gotta love social media, right? I, for one, appreciated the video and the rawness of it. So many of the videos I watch on CZcams of bird trainings are so slick and well produced (ahem, EDITED,) it makes me feel like I’m a failure when my bird is screaming in the background for his treat while I train my other bird lol. So I appreciate seeing this. Thanks
Beautiful cat btw
Coupled with bird 😝
It’s a bird video
Love this video! I really want to get a budgie and teach it tricks like this! But sadly, my parents wont let me get one...
The cat:Oh a snack thank you
Can I ask where you got that stand?? I’m looking for a stand that my parakeet can comfortably wrap her feet around, but all the stand I’m finding are bigger and meant for cockatiels or conures
If you’re referring to the stand that’s on the kitchen table my husband made it for me for the sake of training our bird. It’s made out of wooden dowels
your cat is sooooooo beautiful
If you have a dog it can give the bird stress.I know that because I have 3 budgies
Absolutely! Predators can be a source of stress for prey animals such as birds. But as you can see from my videos our birds are acclimated and comfortable with hearing and briefly seeing the dogs and cat. If the bird was extremely stressed she would not be engaging me in training and eating treats with me. 😉
my birds love my dogs
I have 2 cats and I’m getting a budgie and one of them is mainly outside and the other one is too old and lazy to even eat the bird
@@nicolehubert7308 how it is now?
Very good information 👍
Love 💕 from @Everyday Ahsan Birds channel 🙂
I may sound dumb lol but what is the clicker for?
Thanks for the video training. My bird won't work with the stick. He's too scared if I put any object near him. The stick will freak him out and he'll fly away. My parrotlet just turned 16 wks old. It'll take a while until I can train him. I can barely even pet him with my other finger. He'll fly away. I had to kidnap him in order for me to pet him.
My next bird will be a budgie. Hopefully I can get one that is hand raised.
My favorite is when Ricco says
Tickle Tickle 😊❤
What clicker is that
Nicole Hubert and thank you so much
hi, currently i have a budgie, that recently got my trust, he eats from my and (millet, and other seeds) but i can't get him to perch on my hand. And he doesen't sings that much, only few chips a week. Could you please helpo me?
Wow 😍 that's really impressive 💚 I have a question in between, is there any particular reason to pick female budgies because most people have successfully trained & does prefer male budgies over female. So why female budgies here ???
Female parrots and birds in general are more aggressive and a bit hard to train but it is not near impossible and male budgies are less nippy or bite less or even never dependimg on the approach remember the female will be a mom ☺
@@mahasabeaayon3902 haha you'll love my male budgie then, we refer to him as a flying shark..
I think both can be trained with patience
Do you happen to know the age of your budgie?
Where did u get the target stick??????????
Is the bird alone..nice tricks
Sooo cute i like her i have a green budgie to
So cute budgie.... Same as my daisy.... Have u cut their wings?
Hello, how does your cat react to your bird?
Yea, you teach them those tricks
what is the purpose of gettin her to turn and do that?
@@nicolehubert7308 Sooo.... Do you mean you have one and just said that, because your not the CZcamsr that filmed this video....
You own a cat and a budgie!!! Your budgie can easily die from stress you know .
Dave Augustyn I have three cats and a budgie, and they’re like best friends
Whats the difference of budgie and parakeets? Or are they the same?
They are the same!
How you tamed your video??
What happens if he/she flies away?
Where did you get her 😄
Nicole Hubert where do you live I'm in maryland haha so it might be different also can you send a website link to
*OK THERES NO PROBLEM IF THE CAGE IS SMALL AS LONG AS U KEEP IS COMPANY AND GOOD CARE FOR IT!*
And it's a training cage so it's just used for that
How does your arm go around that pole like that 😂
I am trying to train my parakeets but, They're afraid to eat out of my hands. 😅
Is ur bird alone?
If it is do u have a mirror?
Budgies r a lot happier in pairs
i noticed the cage is much smaller than a budgie, budgies need a bigger space then the pet store recommends. a flight cage or a longer cage would be much better for the bird.
You should have another parakeet
Jason Dehora as I've stated on other comments, in the beginning we keep her alone to encourage her to bond and trust us. We are her company during this initial bonding process. Later we can add another tamed parakeet. The key is meeting their social and mental needs which as you can see from our level of desire and engagement I think she's pretty happy hanging out with us!
Jason Dehora
It's enough for her cat's meal .
She will bring another after that 😏
I do hope that bird is not housed in that way to small of a cage.
That cage i big enough for at least 4 birds
Such a small cage...
@@nicolehubert7308 Again, not the CZcams that filmed this video!!!
And, the cage is small, barely enough room for it to stretch it's wings. It doesn't matter how much you take it out, if you don't have an area for it to fly free, then it will feel enclosed. It still won't be able to fly free if you guys don't just leave it alone for a bit, and not train the poor thing. It's sad. My bird has a huge cage, bout four times BIGGER then yours. Get an actual cage, or give the bird some flying time. With out training!!!!
i thougt it was some loud green there
That cage is to tiny for a bird 😭
That is just a temporary cage they used just for training. She has a big flight cage now!
Is that me?
Nvmi its taller
That cage is pretty small for a bird
Poor bird is that cage
I am more worried about that cat, than the dog
My bird looks like that and also is female xD
Are you keeping her alone? Because that's not healthy fort it...
Kenexxa its better fir it uf uts in pairs, but if you give the bird its attention, it will be fine. Birds bond with their owners or companies strongly. and its better to onky have one if you're planning to train it to do tricks
No dummy its fine to own just one bird as long as you give it attention
I keep my budgie alone and it's just as small as that cage but i have 5 other birds with a 4ft tall cage and 3ft wide soo i let her stay there once in a while soo shes fine
Star Wolf You are so dumb.No they need a partner.Or are you a Bord?
Other birds help as well

if a budgie has a partner will it be more bonded to their owners?
@@nicolehubert7308 oh okay! Thank you so much for the information. I’ll tame the birds in 2 different cages and then let them stay together
That is not healthy for her shes in a tiny cage and barley any toys hopfully you take her out a lot you need to do small steps with her obviously shes confused
Nicole Hubert no but i own 5 parakeets and 2 lovebirds
@@nicolehubert7308
Why, if you own one mabye you should know how to train em
MidNight Pack
Just because they don’t post videos doesn’t mean they don’t train them. I have plenty of animals I train and care for but have zero videos on them. How many videos you post does not show how much you do or do not train your animal.
Cage is wy too small plz change it
Please tell me she doesn't live in this tiny cage.
U need a bigger cage
I have one my friend. You are making assumptions based on a tiny snippet of video. 😉
that cage is way to small im not impressed

I’m not impressed with your spelling and grammar but did you see me say anything on your other comments?
the cage is way to small
The cage is so so so so so small
Nicole Hubert ok????
Are you the creator
Nicole Hubert by the way no cage other than this small cage in any of f her vids so what makes you say that
Why is there a dog crying
You need a way bigger cage poor thing
U need not to train a cat's food I think.
Soon or later, it is a treat to your cat .
Oh yeah !
Having a cat and a bird is super bad the 🐈⬛ can eat the 🐦
That cage is way too small for a budgie
Wow that's a small cage with nothing in it to play with, poor bird.
That’s just a temporary cage they used just while they were taking and training her. She has a big flight cage with lots of toys now!
That is way to small of a cage even tho it’s a small bird it doesn’t matter 😠
that case is way to small and it need more toys (no mirrow) or take another bird
your cage is way too small !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
