Mike Monroe was a common sight in my hometown of Turku, Finland, even a couple of years ago. He could be seen riding his bicycle in the city center and along the river Aura with bags of empty bottles. Finland is among those very few countries where even a world-famous person can walk on the streets without anyone bothering him and living a rather normal life.
In 1985 they played a concert in Poland, I was 11 years old then and I remember that my father took me there. The best concert I ever attended. I listen to Hanoi to this day.
I agree 100% These guys gave so much to the 80´s rock/glamrock scene back then. And so many "iconic" bands these days got inspired by HR. These guys should deserve a place in the Rock´N Roll Hall of Fame.
@@ray_wolf Kind of sad how bands like Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses, Poison and Cinderella all became superstars in the 80's having been heavily influenced by Hanoi Rocks yet Hanoi Rocks never achieved similar success. But in the end the musical accomplishments can never be taken away.
I think it's cool that GnR always named H.R. as one of their main influences. GnR never hid the fact that they had huge admiration for H.R. Basically, I love GnR for lovin' H.R.
Andy made this song in 78..when he was 15 years old.. he stored the lyrics, riff etc ,and put it together when time was right, and they recored it in 81 ..u can read that from many UK mags, andy's bio, hanoi's history etc..

Dance, metal, punk....what the fuck...that’s what we thought back in 81... but we loved it...we knew this was our time to rock...can’t wait till kids do it again.
Hanoi Rocks might not be the favorite band of all people that came here but it's youthness and punk attitude do revigorate us all and I fell so young and full of energy that I'm not afraid of saying that this band fuckin' rocks and will be remembered for ever.
i figure myself lucky,i learned about hanoi rocks from reading an interview with izzy stradlin way back in 1987.. went out bought " two steps from the move" album. loved em ever since. guns n roses did take a whole lot from hanoi rocks. probably the most underated band EVER!!
Remember seeing Hanoi in 1983 in the UK - mind blowing- and going back to Finland and the everyone going like who, who's Hanoi? Olavi Virta, Irvin Goodman. Oh dear.
Such a beautiful chorus. For those saying Hanoi Rocks should've been bigger, you're right. But after reading their book, I don't think they'd have lasted long even if the Razzle tragedy never happened. They were a mess (except Monroe), with Andy and Nasty on heroin, and Sam and Razzle partied hard too. Monroe, who was a health nut in' 84, likely would've gotten fed up with their addictions. Those guys lived hard, living the Motley lifestyle. It's possible they could've gotten through it, but unlikely. Also, in the mid 80s, arena rock was what sold and Hanoi were more traditional rock N roll. They may have looked like the bands that copied them and sold millions, but their sound was pretty different. They're still one of the greatest rock bands ever, and fortunately they reunited later and also their side and solo projects are very good.
