      The fact that Ivy League students can defend the utter destruction of over 500 small businesses and tens of millions of dollars in damage in Minneapolis alone is sickening. What they're doing is only making people who disagreed with them in the first place hate them even more.

    • @josie6874
      @josie6874 Před 4 lety

      I agree completely that the looting is not okay. However, priorities are important; you shouldn’t be angry at looting more than you’re outraged at the police brutality that the protests are about in the first place. I don’t think it’s okay by any means, but as the man speaking in the time stamp I provided explained, black people have been resisting peacefully for decades. Always, it is overlooked or scorned. This is finally getting the attention it deserves, and don’t you think that is more important?

    • @adenkamath4027
      @adenkamath4027 Před 4 lety +1

      @@josie6874 Attention as in getting people to hate them? No, I don't think that is very important. The fact that people can't denounce police brutality and violence at the same time is ridiculous. Why aren't people allowed to be appalled by police brutality and the burning down of cities BOTH? Did you know that three BLACK cops have died because of the riots? As MLK said, "I will never change in my basic idea that nonviolence is the most potent weapon available to the negro in his struggle for freedom and justice." Violence is NEVER the answer. Notice how none of Malcolm X's policies that he wanted ever came into place, but MLK's did. The reason they're often overlooked and/or scorned is that they are fighting for a problem that data and statistics don't support. Institutionalized, systematic, and societal racism aren't problems in this country anymore like they once were. The reason MLK was heard and BLM today isn't, is because MLK actually fought against a problem that existed.

    I absolutely loved hearing this necessary conversation go down. Black lives are worth so much more than profit, possessions, and professional positions. We are exhausted from having to witness hundreds of Black Americans (and the countless more over the past 400+ years) die at the hands of an institution built on racism that promises to protect everyone. Thank you for this conversation, I would love to see more content regarding systemic racism and how everyone, even college students, have a huge role to take in dismantling white supremacy.

    How do we better the world through violence? We have only made things worse and upheld stereotypes that we are going to continue to hate!

    Loved the panel and I believe they just gave you the next idea for a video 😏 Also I do really wish they would've touched on the culture of unchecked police authority and how their reaction to white people vs Black people is deeply embedded in racism. Even Black cops buy into the propaganda of people who look like them are immediately seen as violent criminals. I love this so much! Ive been riding with you since your acceptance into Upenn. Keep Going and Stay disruptive!!!

    First and foremost, thank you for this, because BLACK LIVES MATTER! I am African-American. I am also a rising senior in high school, and before I apply to the ivies, I just want to understand how the black communities are at each school and how the institutions see me, whether that be as a whole person or just an addition to accentuate their rep. Please make a video with these students on their relationship to their schools regarding their race.
    Stay safe everyone.

    From what you know about the Jim Crow laws and the segregation of black and white folks on so many platforms, how do you think those times are similar and different to our times now? Do you think the methods of protests done back then still work or do we need something new?

    I honestly don’t understand how saying “BLM” offends people. They aren’t saying your life doesn’t matter.
