Yes, I got it on camera about the false edge option.
I just had a brilliant idea: We need to ask TOPS to offer the BOB knife with that black river wash. It would be WAY more popular than it even is now!
preparedmind101
great idea Chris!
tho the reality is regardless of what the knife looks like, does it get the job done?
BTW all your custom work that you do to your blades inspired me to personalize my own.
Keep up the great work.
I agree I would purchase one!
*****
btw
great review you all have done for the Tahoma, (just re-watched it)
I also live in the Pacific NW,(all be it Canada eh) so my environment is very similar to Andys.
Enjoy your channel and appreciate your efforts.
Your welcome brother thanks for the support.
Does Antone know if black river wash throws spark?
Nice review! I'm really looking forward to getting it in my hands.
It's on the way brother.
I ordernd Mine in december just After Andy was Doing his Review . Just talked to my local Store Here in Germany and he told me its on its Way :-) Cant wait to get it . I Loved the Design straight Away. Excellent Review by the Way . You and Andy did a Great Job with the live Updates from shoot Show 2014 Thank u for that u Guys r just inspiring.
"Velcro Turn Off" ha ha , couldn't agree more. I just ordered mine.
Awesome video for an awesome knife. Love that design and it sure seems to perform very well. Hats off to you for the review and to Andy for designing such an awesome knife!
Thanks for the comment and stopping by.
Great review. Just dropped an order on Tops for the Tahoma. You and a couple others tipped the scale for me. Stay safe and keep posting.
BiskitznGravy Thanks for watching. You will enjoy your Tahoma it's a great knife.
Great video review wingman keep them coming. I to have been in constant contact with Andy about this and can't wait to own one.
I'm sad due to the fact I had to mail it to the next CZcamsr.. Looks like I'll be purchasing a Tahoma for myself.
Awesome review brother. Really like the overall design of the knife and its functions. Really enjoy your channel. Singing out from San Diego as well. Jim
Hi Jim! Thanks for checking in. Let's keep in touch maybe we can meet up sometime.
Thanks John. Great review.
Thanks for checking in.
Awesome review. thank you for doing it
Thanks for watching.
Great review man, that knife looks awesome...
Thanks for checking in brother. Any San Diego trips scheduled for you soon?
Thats one awesome knife to get. Great review man.
Thanks for checking in. Glad you liked it. It's a great knife.
Love the commentary especially in regards to the (sissies)! Yes Jonathon unfortunately a lot of them are coming to Montana. Keep up with the great reviews.
Definitely my next knife on the list! Tops makes very good, high quality knives imo regardless of others opinions. When I got my first large Tops knife, it was between this and the Condor Alert. I chose the Condor Alert since it has a slightly longer blade and more basic design. After some slight edge reprofiling, squared off the spine to strike a ferro rod, it has served me well! It also had that black coating, which I stripped and forced a patina on it. Glad to see your keeping it real!
Thanks for watching b
Great review mate.
Thanks brother.
Excellent review.
Thank you sir.
I am a Tacti-cool Operator and I approve of this knife :D Hell of a knife and review. I dig the grip and the spear point. I love my TOPS Armageddon, and I actually prefer the 1/4 inch spine, but like you said, not for everyone. And I agree on the velcro - I hate it on knife sheath retention. Mine is being Duracoated by Montactical and I can't wait to show it off! Love it John, you are a no BS dude. Cheers!
Thanks brother.
You are my idol! Greatest review.
Thanks for checking in my friend.
great review , liked the knife
Thanks. I really love the feel and how this knife performs.. No one knife is going to do everything but this performs a lot of tasks really well.
Wow Awesome Bro! Well done
Thanks brother.
great knife! I have one myself. keep up the great work on the videos!
+Frank Taylor Thanks for checking in Frank.
I can hardly wait to get one.
Thanks for checking in my friend.
Northern Mainer? That brought a smile to my face. Just moved from there; great trails!
Thanks for the great video; I just purchased the knife today. :-)
jonNH123 Congrats and welcome to the TFK Nation! Grew up in Portage Lake. Played in the backwoods of Aroostook county.
I was in Lewiston/Auburn. Not fantastic hiking there but a short drive north had some great trails.
Can't wait to thrash on the knife. My kydex sheath is coming soon. :-)
Yea I don't baton either. And that double edge is handy for fishing. Both cleaning and cutting line in a pinch. I like the sheath too. The knife drops back in easily. I use a bungee strap like Chris to hold the knife in while doing tasks. That's plenty of retention for camp.
+Patrick Germond Good stuff thanks for commenting.
TOPS Tahoma Field Knife Review.
you just brought up something that I have always said, people that change knives, guns, or whatever how can they ever get proficient with that tool.
Ordered mine yesterday! Soon this blade will be in Hawaii! Guys at Tops said i should be getting it in a couple weeks. So stoked i cant wait! Will post pics on my instagram once she arrives. I'll tag them #innerbark #tahomafieldknife
Let me know how it works for you.
Once again a great knive review. Actually I bought the Habilis Bushtool because of your review earlier (still waiting for it, it takes some time to be delivered to Germany). Thx
Thanks for the kind words. You will be happy with your Habilis.
I'm sure, if not, I'll blame you ;-)
Thanks for the added pressure on my shoulders. LOL take care.
So it's been 5 years, you should do a follow up video on how well the knife is doing. Has it stood up to all the resharpening? Is it still up to do all the tasks as when it was new? Etc.
I need to do a update for sure. So many knives so little time.. LOL
Yeaa please do a review again or tell me please would you buy it again ? I cant choose between tfk and junglas 2
I honestly have never even considered looking into getting a knife from tops. For some reason I had always assumed they were all fantasy looking knives and never gave them a second thought. I will really have to look into them some more as it seems they do make some great looking outdoors knives. Do you know of any tops knives with convex edges?
"Beatin on that anaconda for years"
Haha sorry for my immaturity but I just had to.
Great channel by the way and what an awesome blade. I'll give a thumbs up for this one
LOL. Thanks for checking in.
I've got one of these for backpacking/camping, and it's a great knife. In your video, you mentioned "you can see the heat treat line". The black river wash on my knife is very dark and covers most of the blade, to the point of making half the lettering on the blade almost unreadable. I hope that is not indicative of a heat treat that was over-applied. Or is it is just probably an over application of the wash finish? Thoughts?
+Ranger Trekker Its fine now get outside and use that bad boy. Have fun with that blade. Every blade is heat treated by hand so we each have a semi custom blade!
I really want one. I would love to review that knife.
It's a great chopper. Every task I used it for it did it well. It's a well thought out knife.
Nice review, I've just subscribed. Very capable knife. I would want the upper edge plain vs. sharpened. I know it's done as a potential defensive option, but I think that's for your smaller carry knife. I think it would batton easier and with wider wood, as I prefer the saw/big-blade combo.
It's confirmed TOPS will put a false edge on the blade for you. You would have to order it through TOPS Website.
Thanks, you have a genuine approach, don't change it. you'll do well.
Andy in his vids says the top edge is for finer cutting work like carving or capeing
Michael Mixson
I know he has skinned a deer with it and it worked well.
Great review. Plenty of butchers ya can get free bones from here in central Cal
I may have to move.LOL I went to 4 stores and went goose egg at each. Thanks for watching.
How's the knife holding up. Almost ready to buy one. Still carrying it.
Robert Briscoe I carry this blade in the woods all the time.. It's holding up great!
RECOMMEND THIS HUNTING KNIFE FOR SURVIVAL? STEEL IS GOOD? THANK YOU..
I loved your video. DIEGO DE URUGUAY.
HUG.
+Diego Berrutti Thanks for watching.
Good review and good knife, but the Esee bk9 is better.
Awesome knife... i have to get one in the future... good thing it comes with the false edge because my country (netherlands) doesnt allow it...
"hes been beatin on that anaconda for years" lmfao!! 7:33
1111111111202 LOL....
Best bowdrill knife ever!
+Patrick Germond 👍🏻👊🏻
If you could only choose one, the TOPS Tahoma or Tex Creek XL?
+ScaleReality Depends on what you going to use it for. Start up hunting knife then the Tex Creek. Everything else then the TFK.
TFK it is then, thanks
Hey brother! How you doing? Yeah I'm still kicking. Just busy tried to which you a merry Christmas but guess you changed phones lol
I will text you my number.
Did you get one? If so how's it holding up. Oh yeah. Like you channel
Robert Briscoe I own a Tahoma and it's on my bushcraft belt as we speak.. TOPS makes great stuff.
Do you still have the tfk, and how is it doing
I do have it. It’s a keeper. TOPS makes outstanding knives built to last.
@@Wingman115 any chance of doing a update video
@@sunnyoutsidehah132l Heck I think I have 5 or six video's with the Tahoma in it. I could add it to the que but it could take a bit.
what is the shorter top edge for?
Andy Tran designed the top edge as a backup blade.
Oh i see. Thankyou for responding!
Heavier than other blades of the same length. Must be the width. There are thicker & longer knives that weigh slightly less. Tahoma is more multifunctional than most.
I can say it is a awesome chopper.
5 out of what?
5 out of 5 Stars... It was a cold windy day....
if only it would come with a kydex sheath
trey olson All sorts of custom sheath folks out there to choose from.
for a company that makes knifes of good quality a lot of people would just expect a better sheath that they don't have to get aftermarket id rather tops just ships the knife without a sheath and then take the 15$ it costs away from the price instead of that junk nylon
I just got through watching the video. Not bad at all. However for the life of me I don't know one big game hunter that would carry a knife of that size. Most that I know carry a knife with a blade length of 4 inches or less.
A true statement. Was throwing out ideas as a one tool option. All the deer I've gutted out have been with a old Schrade Sharp Finger. Thanks for checking in.
