  • Blindspot checks are one of the things you are shown from your first driving lesson. But it is also one of the things learners sometimes get wrong on their driving test.

    Just a tip for when you have to do a reverse manoeuvre in the actual driving test) You can take off your seatbelt which will let you freely observe both blind spots.

    That's why I think there is accidents on the motorway most of the time, yes speeding is a big factor, but I think a lot of people don't check in there mirrors and especially not the blind spot check.

    Hello, I have my test on the 8th of December and have mastered most aspects of driving. However, shoulder checks are something that bothers me. Mostly, I'll either forget to do them or I won't do them in fear that whilst I'm driving and need to do the checks, that I'll steer in that direction.
    Could you help how I could overcome this please?

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 3 lety

      I would do your 5 point check as it’s in the video. Then as you are about to move off, just check your right mirror shoulder,

    Hi, I have my test in three weeks and I have been told by some people that you shouldn’t look at blind spots over your shoulder when moving forward. However some people say you should. For example changing lane you should look over your shoulder? Do you look over your shoulder or not 😫I’m so confused and stressed. Thanks

      Did you ever find out the answer???

    • @windyrainStorm
      @windyrainStorm Před 11 měsíci

      According to the book I have read (Norwegian traffic rules) when changing lanes first you check side mirrors, rear view mirror then blind spot. You need to check the blindspot before you attempt to change in left lane. Therefore, you need to quickly check the back (window at the back) then you see if there is a car beside or not. But i think, you already got your license by now 😊

  • @emma8639
    @emma8639 Před 3 lety +1

    How do you manage to check your left blind spot when changing from right to left on duel carriageway? I feel I am going to sway over 😔

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 3 lety +2

      I would practice whilst stationary checking. I also tell my students that a right blindspot check when you are about to move off is not the same as a right blind spot check whilst driving on a carriageway to change lanes.
      I call it a parrot check. So when you are driving and want to change lanes, check to see if the parrot is on your right shoulder, then check the right mirror. Hope that helps.

    Hi travis ive just had a terrible mock lesson. Ive got my test next month. My blind spots. I got 4 serious and 9 minors..im very tired and stressed during a two hour class.. any advice or tips

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 3 lety +2

      It's is normal to have a bad mock test. You will learn from the pressure and I would retake one in three weeks to see id you have improved.

    Is the right blind spot check at 45 degrees to your shoulder?

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 2 lety +2

      The blind spots when moving off are just over your left and right shoulder.
      If you were travelling at speed and changing lanes then a blind spot check is looking to your side shoulder.
