- Railfanning near Winchester Washington July 2000. The 4449 was screaming through the straight stretch between Wenatchee and Ephrata. This was the BNSF employee appreciation special run. Hopefully this is a slightly better quality version

This paint scheme displayed here on the SP 4449 is somewhat similar to the "War baby" black/ silver paint scheme that was used on SP steam locomotives back during the 1950s.

I think it's because they were going so fast and we were so close. It was a straight stretch of good track. I heard they were doing about 80mph in that section. Everyone hopped in their cars and did 75 all the way to Ephrata and they were parked and passengers were getting off by the time we got there

How fast was that?
I think close to 80 mph. That's the speed rate for that section of track. We tried to chase it to the next town, speed limit on the road was 55, we were all doing over 70 including a few cop cars and when we got to town it was already parked and unloaded
