Most evertonians dont adore him. He was decent for his first year, then atrocious to the point of pathetic over the next 2 years. The last 2 years he has been a decent prem keeper but he has made a few mistakes this season and he needs to go back to his shrink because he has been erratic and manic mentally at times, which he had kept in check the previous 2 years.

i hate the “goalkeepers are paid to make saves so they shouldn’t shout” notion, because aren’t defenders paid to prevent shots from reaching the keepers? if a shot comes in then a goalkeeper is naturally going to be angry, as it usually means someone in front of them hasn’t done their job
As a Everton fan who watches Pickford all the time he’s a quality goal keeper! Match of the day only shows the bad moments not the ten saves he’s made before. He is a bit erratic sometimes but he’s under constant pressure been Everton’s keeper faces 10/15 shots a game 🤣 and we all know keepers aren’t wired up right. He’s a quality keeper and he’s proved that for England
Pickford isn't a quality keeper, he makes loads of errors that result in goals. Does the simple stuff badly, but a very good shot stopper (even though he regularly uses the wrong hand, it's actually quite impressive).
It must be a Sunderland thing, Simon Mignolet was just as bad as Pickford.

The same Jordan Pickford who was brilliant at the euros including two penalty saves in a final. The same Jordan Pickford who has been Everton’s best player for the past three seasons and has made top class saves time and time again. But he’s an accident waiting to happen? Can count on one hand the mistakes he’s made over the last two seasons. The agenda towards Pickford is incredibly weird.

Jack butland has been outstanding for us and yes people will question the leagues quality but a shot is a shot, doesnt matter whos hitting it, you still have to stop it and hes done that without fault. Hes also did it in europe for us also. Calm, composed, leadership qualities etc, has everything. We've stolen him.
A shot from a top premier league player is completely different to anything in the championship.
Coming from a stoke fan, Butland was always a class shot stopper and should have been ahead of Pickford for England no.1 when he was doing well for stoke in the premier league

Saved a whole bunch of penalties. What if ramsdale for example was England number 1 you don’t think he’d ever of been at fault for any goals over the span of years ? It’s not like England have someone like Allison to step in and replace him. Unless you have an elite keeper at the level of neur or Allison you will concede the odd goal your keeper should save

As usual, the criticism of Pickford comes down to 'I don't like his style', and Souness admits it. He was pressed multiple times about his actual ability to keep the ball out of the net and he punted every time. That tells you all you need to know. But hey, as an Everton fan I hope everyone continues to think he's overrated so there's no one coming in to try and poach him.
I changed my mind on him over the years tbh. I used to think he was too small, and from set pieces he probably still is, but as a pure stopper, he's excellent. Arguably saved Everton's behinds a dozen times or so in the last couple of years.

If you observe Pickford he is average . When he kicks a long ball out 50% of the time it goes out of play on his left hand side resulting in giving the opposition the ball ( not good ) if it dosen't go out it is a lottery who gets the ball ( he is not good enough to pick out his own team mates) so theoretically his plays on the long ball are giving the opposition the ball 75% of the time.
Poor tactics and poor play dosent work, If a goalkeeper can pass, throw and dictate a passage of play to his own team mates your team keeps the ball 100% of the time.
@@stevewilson6390 That's not true, the concept of playing out from the back is better for teams that play a risky possession game in their own thirds. Usually mid table and relegation threatened teams minimize risks. You can find plenty of examples of Goalkeepers who have reputations of being excellent in playing out (Raya, Ederson), putting their teams in trouble because of being unable to handle a strong team press. His distribution isn't great, I concur, but it doesn't have to be if his striker can compete for the ball (When Calvert-Lewin isn't having a day off with the wife/husband?) they can do that.
Schmeichel would be hammered by the NPC fans nowadays if he played because of his poor composure and bad passing ability, despite being able to clear the ball adequately and having elite throwing ability. Football has forgotten how much more important it is for a goalkeeper to dominate his area from set pieces and crosses than it is to invite pressure by poncing around playing out from the back, and target men are 100million now because people have forgotten that competing in the air is a viable part of the game. Imagine if Drogba played now, And missing out on the ability he gave you by playing out from the back instead of using his power from Goal Kicks?
The game has changed, yes, but football is cyclical and we're not far away from Percentage style football making a return when some top class coach figures out that defenders are able to be bullied by Physicality from goal kicks, risk free, rather than playing into trouble in your own third. Against a good press, only the very best players can play that way.

Pickford is the most underrated keeper in the league.
Jack butland should have left when stoke was relegated. He went from a stoke side that was playing in the prem to stoke in the championship that had a mixture of sub par championship players. I don’t care who you are but that will affect your confidence as a goal keeper. You go from decent prem players to guys that can barely tie their own shoe laces. When he was at Crystal palace we saw glimpses of his former self. Rangers gave given his confidence a huge boost. Only the real ones remember how good he was when stone was in the prem
The issue was he was tied in to a long-term contract at Stoke and they were demanding big money that no one was willing to pay. I get he was their player and they wanted to be compensated for him but they effectively cost him his career.

Graeme is absolutely spot on and I've been saying it for years. Pickford is a master of illusion by making very basic saves look better than what they are and acting like a big man to mask the fact that he is bang average, and everyone buys into it.
