- A very sad day! Time to say goodbye to my RS Megane 280 Cup but before I wave it off to a heartless trader (boooo!) I’ll take you for a walk round the car, including some gratuitous pops and bangs footage of the exhaust, before begging for feedback and comments at the end 😁

I have a cupra formentor with the golf R engine, it is a lovely car and so capable but after coming from a hyundai i30n its not as fun, dsg and fake exhaust noise, makes it harder for us car lovers to enjoy, so i am now looking at swapping into one of these to get back into an enjoyable car again.
Hi, thanks for the video.
I’m buying your Renault RS this week, having it brought over from Leeds tomorrow hopefully. 👍👍
That’s great to know who’s bought it! I hope you have great fun owning my old car, I know I miss it already…
Great video mate- I just picked up my 280 cup in red
Thanks! I’m jealous…very tempted to buy another one, I miss mine!
Great review, such an underrated car.. this is my next goto car. The 280 cup manual are rare. It's a brilliant car, thanks for sharing. I think its the sweet sport in terms of price and practicality..
Thanks for commenting Arif! I miss my RS a lot, it must be said. Although I really needed something bigger for the family so 🤷🏼♂️
Got my RS in April, it's a spicy meataball!
Thanks for this video mate. I prefer real reviews like this. I’m toying with the idea of this or a Cupra etc. but I got soft spot for Renaults.
Cupra Leon is a fine alternative, lots of tuning options too, but I feel that the RS Megane is a lot more entertaining on a twisty road!
@@carwaffle so many options. S3 also. Ah I’m confused lol. I just need to drive one to be honest and see
Loved this video bud! In the market for this one myself, I want something quick enough to bring a smile but also enough room for my two boys. Was looking at the i30N but they are pricey for newer ones. How were running costs? Is maintenance reasonable for it also?
Thanks for the feedback! I was also looking at the i30N when I was shopping for the Megane, but went for the Renault as it felt a bit more special to me, and I love the way it looks.
Running costs were pretty good, as I ran it on nothing but super unleaded averaged between 33-37mpg per tank depending on how I drove it, and longer motorway runs saw the car averaging 40-43mpg! Annual service at a Renault main dealer set me back around £200 and a full set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4’s were £550. Insurance was also surprisingly cheap. For a hot hatch I thought the costs were very acceptable and much much better than the Audi TTS I had before it!
Thanks for the video as this was one that helped me buy my RS 280 Cup only a few weeks ago. Pretty much the same but mine had the sunroof options otherwise standard. One owner 24K miles and yes over the moon as these are now a dying breed due to the end of the RS line and the unpalatable move to EV's...
Very jealous, I still miss mine!
Although I am a full EV convert for my daily driver now, so we’ll have to disagree on that
@@carwaffle Thanks and mybe I am just becoming a dinasaur as this new world approaches...Thanks again. as I absolutly love the RS...
Love the video 🔥, just curious what maintenance is like and general issues an owner should expect to have
Maintenance is pretty cheap, the annual service only cost £190 at a main Renault dealer. Parts are not expensive either compared to other brands.
General issues…some owners have reported driveshafts crunching, general infotainment resets being needed and Trophy 300 owners report that the DESS battery can go flat quickly if the car is not driven often enough.
@@carwaffle thank you for the reply I’m, I’m all the way in South Africa 🇿🇦 sad that I found the channel soon as you sold the car , I really like the Megan R.S 🔥
Great video. currently looking at purchasing one as I refuse to pay 55k for a new Golf R
Thanks Kurt! I find the Golf R (and other hyper hatched like that) a bit sterile. There’s far more fun to be had in something like the Megane, that may be flawed but has real character! I’d also recommend the Hyundai i30N Performance, BMW 128ti and Peugeot 308 GTI.
Hi fantastic video I am looking to buy a Renault megane rs so good info there thanks 😊
Thanks for commenting Anthony! You won’t regret it if you do buy one.
Is the carbon trim real stuff? I am looking at a 19 Megane RS 300 Trophy Manual on Wednesday. Do you know the difference between your former car and the Trophy. It has Recaro Seats and the interior is covered in alcantara
No it’s not real carbon unfortunately! But looks very convincing.
The Recaro alcantara seats were generally an optional extra on most variants, towards the end I think they made them standard on the Trophy though (those only came with the EDC gearbox). I still maintain to this day that the 280 Cup with a manual gearbox and standard wheels is more fun to drive than a Trophy 300 as they came with bigger wheels which ruined the ride quality, and the extra power is arguably a little too much for the chassis.
@@carwaffle hi the 300 Trophy I have had a closer look at, has Alcantara Recaros AND is a manual👍😊19 inch wheels, 235/40/19 I think🤔
@@bikerman6907 19in wheels were standard on the Trophy. The Recaros are good but the standard seats are also excellent, and more comfortable on longer journeys.
I test drove a Trophy 300 today. Lovely car but the battery was drained when I arrived for the test drive. This sounds like a common problem with the Trophy models and has really put me off.
Yes, that is true of the Trophy as it has a lithium iron battery that depletes very fast when the car is parked up. However the 280 Cup is just as good to drive, if not better in the real world…and has a normal battery that doesn’t cause any issues. Go look at a good 280 Cup with minimal options (as they just add complexity and complication) and I reckon you’ll be sold.
The LSD is inside the gearbox. Its not seperate. Infact all the gearing has to come out first to get to it .
