(Warabi-Mochi) is traditional Japanese jelly-like Mochi-like confectionery (和菓子 wagashi). To make the authentic one, you will need (Warabiko / bracken starch). But many people in Japan enjoy making this with starch (potato starch or corn starch) at home, and it tastes as good as the real one!
Give it a try ;)
---------------------------------
Warabi-Mochi
Difficulty: SUPER EASY
Time: 10min
Number of Servings: 2
Ingredients:
A
* 50g (1.8oz.) Katakuriko (potato starch) or corn starch
* 2 tbsp. sugar
* 300ml green tea or water *tea removes the starchy smell
* a pinch of salt
B
* 3 tbsp. Kinako (soybean flour)
* 1 tbsp. granulated sugar
* a pinch of salt
Kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup) if you like
Directions:
1. Mix A very well in a pot.
2. Put on medium, stir constantly until translucent and thick. When it becomes completely translucent, stop the heat and mix very well for a minute to mix evenly and let cool until not too hot to handle.
3. Spoon the batter into a bowl of ice water to cool completely. *DO NOT put it in the fridge or it will get hard.
4. Drain very well and dust with B to finish.
If you can't find Kinako (soybean flour), you can sprinkle with MILO :)
You can keep it at room temperature overnight. Dust with Kinako (soybean flour) right before you serve.

Lovely makeup Ochikeron. This looks super easy, I'll give it a go.
I used potato starch and it turned out perfect and i cooled the mochi in the fridge . I noticed that the mochi remains soft but the kinako powder becomes lumpy xD so i think the mochi can be placed in the fridge and then u put the kinako 😁😁thankss for the delicious recipe~
Thank you! I had this when I was in Japan and didn't know what it was called. I LOVED it!
More kinako recipes please!
That face she makes right after she takes a bite out of anything is adorable!
This looks delicious. It looks like the ones I got in Beijing, China last summer
can't wait to try this out =D
Warabimochi is my favorite! I live in Gifu. Thanks for your video :)

Just tried it using vanilla tea instead yummmmy

I tried it and it was so yummy! It was very similar to the one I bought from Japan!
oh great :)
+Ashley Ngai like i wrote in the description box, katakuriko is potato starch. you can use either one for this recipe.
I try a ready, is delicious^^,but I use the topica starch to make~~
Never eaten warabi mochi before but it looks really good! Want to try it out!
Your eye makeup is really pretty!

I love your videos & Mochi
hehe
ahh this is so good! thank you :D and your make up looks really pretty
I've tried a mochi recipe using corn starch and it becomes clear but it doesn't form the way potato starch does. It's much better with potato starch and I found it in the kosher section :)
***** i tried this recipe using microwave and the result is still the same... it taste really good!
Thank you sooo much! My grandparents were impressed with this dish. I used honey and kinako. I love your cooking shows :D
I think I can make this one as well. Thank you!
I had warabi mochi for the first time in Japan last year and oh my Gawd so good!!!
Will definitely try this out!! :)
+Maria Enriquez yes i know that :) but it is not as hard as that one. hehe
i always look forward to your videos :)
thank you :)
I'll give it a try, thank you for sharing this :D
Thank you for the quick reply have a good day:)
This look easy to make & delicious also :D
I enjoy watching your videos and learning a lot from your cooking videos! Thank you so much
I tried to make this but I FAILED SO BAD!!! At least I think I failed. It was chunky, wet, and brittle (despite being jelly-like). The Milo coating ended up dissolving through the moisture of the warabi mochi. I might make this again, fingers crossed it ends up better this time.
looks ao yummy ^^ ill try to make it tmr :)
can I have some :) every time I take japan airlines going to Philippines they serve mochi love it :)
Yummmmm
I thank you for the tutorial "how to make a mochi" gracious as always ^ - ^ Once cooled I put icing sugar
It looks so delicious and yummy i want to make it too. What is the pot used in the video? The mixture does not seem to be sticking on the pot.
looks lovely as usual ochi-san :)
cool
you are so cute and funny. love that big thumb up at the end.
How on earth this can be good?!
I really like all your baking essentials. They're so nice, colorful and cute. I want to have those!!! ^_^
Thank you for the recipe. I wonder could u please do the recipe for Rokkatei strawberry white chocolate, i have searched for a couple day but couldn't find any
thank you :D
very nice idea. i love that you can use other things to make a type of mochi.. :D (and i have all the ingredients, so i will make this tomorrow.. yayyy!!
What is the different between Katakuriko and corn starch? Will the cooking temperature or the texture of the mochi be different?
BTW, enjoy your tutorial so muchhhh~~~~
i was going to ask about the soybean flour but i have MILO! :D
Is that a doggy spray bottle on your counter? It's soo cute.
yes :) it is from Pylones
For the tea part, can I use black tea instead? I want to use that instead, because I already have it at home. Hmm.. But thanks for the recipe, it's super easy, I'll absolutely try it. *^*
that looks good! thank you for sharing I would like to try this one. I might coat with powdered sugar, I don't know if I can find soybean flour or milo. I love mochi, but have not had luck making it at home. And I love your sweater :)
The powdered coating gives the mochi a great flavor, maybe try sesame seeds? If you do have them, just put them in a food processor or blender for like 10 seconds and add a bit of sugar to the mix, then use that to coat your mochi :) I've also posted a link on your discussion page of a website that teaches you how to make mochi in the microwave, hope it helps you!
***** maybe the powdered sesame seeds would be nice. I will have to try microwave mochi again. It came out bad the last time i tried, but I think I didn't mix it enough. I have a mortar and pestle - it looks like fun to take out your stress. thank you for sharing that link :)
Kelly Gorham Definitely try it out, remember to use roasted sesame seeds :) When I made the mochi, after the initial 3 minutes in the microwave, it didn't look right (rock hard surface and still liquid on the bottom) but don't be fooled ... mix it a bit and place it right back into the microwave for the remaining 1 minute and it'll turn out fine!
warabi mochi pri pri prun prun
Did you try the kinako mochi tirol chocolate? I liked it, it tastes like peanut butter! Is this the same type of mochi?
I Love Kinako flavor. Can't wait to try this recipe. :-3
Can you show us how to make green tea mocha? Or as I learnt from my host parents in Japan, its actually called dango?
The green tea part use hot green tea or cold green tea?
can i flavor and add color by adding some juice to the in place of tea?
you can't make this with mochi flour?
My Japanese friend made this for me ^^ I kinda liked it but the kinako tastes a bit weird :D
Can I use brown sugar instead of white sugar? Btw, I love your videos and you're so beautiful (I'm so jealous -_-) And you've got a newsubscriber!
at first i read it as wasabi mochi LOL
If I want to make this with warabiko, is the amount of the ingredients and method the same as in your video? I can then use water instead of green tea right?
My mum and I love warabimochi so I'm so going to give this recipe a try. :D
Do you know how to make crepe? If you know, can you please show me how to make it and what I need? If you can do that, it would make me happy! And plus, this looks delicious!!!!
yes i already have the video: Nutella Mille Crêpe Cake (How to Make Crepes) Recipe
The Chinese version uses peanut powder mix with sugar to coat the mochi. I'm not sure what kind of starch people use to make Chinese mochi though XD
Can I substitute Kinako with something else?
Can I use something else instead of Milo and Kinako? Will Cocoa power or nesquik work?
Can I use Milo instead of soybean flour? Thanks!
kawaiiiii u looks like Tiffany from SNSD
I just tried it using cornstarch, but I'm afraid the consistency was not right. It never became elastic, no matter how long I cooked it... I ended up with some kind of goo, it looked more like custard than mochi :S I'll try it with potato starch in the future.
yay, more vegan recipes please :D
Yum:)
yummmm! I love kinako :) now to pick of that up....if i don't have the brown sugar syrup can i just melt some brown sugar and boil it down to the syrup? Or can I substitute with honey?
yes. you can melt the brown sugar with water and boil. honey is good, too :)
***** san, I've tried to make it use instant coffee and it taste good. unfortunately it can't be kept for a long time. Better serve and eat immediately. The mochi will be watery and harden. even for 24hr.
can i substitute kinako with other ingredients like matcha/ground peanut with sugar?
sounds great! but matcha may be too bitter, so be careful when you use :)
okay thanks ! :)
You think i can use mochiko?
enamel pot. it sticks. hehe
I just love all your kitchen appliances and pots...
can you use tapioca starch instead?
so bad I don't have kinako powder...I wonder if I can find it here..
Is it the same as the white one in the mortar which is turn and stump?
+Supakorn Srisawat no, that's just mochi (no warabi in the name). it's made with rice
I make this dessert with the rice flour for mochi. Can I cool it in ice water as well?
after you boil the mochi?! yes you can! i mean, you need to do that :)
Hmmm could you add jam. Like strawberry or raspberry for different flavours?
sounds nice :)
*mochi Or maybe it is called mochi. You know those that you can buy in stores with a sweet filling and I love the green tea ones! Not the rice dumpling round things :D
l will make make it with milo XD (it's hard to get Kinako here >,
I really want to try this but is this slimy textured at all? I really don't like jelly or anything close to the texture of jelly.
I doubt this is for you, then. It looked very jelly-like.
Im sorry, I mean daifuku. or maybe tea ceremony sweets? like kuri namagashi? I'm not sure if this is the right name. heh
Hi ochikeron!! Can I use cocoa powder instead of milo or soybean flour?
it may be too bitter even if you add some sugar... so i don't think that works...
I thought this was fried Mochi haha
O_O MILO
I love Milo :D
