Venom - Witching Hour 1982 rerecorded version (ultra rare)

- In 1982 Venom released the Live E.P. vhs and although called live it was just a promotional videoclip release that included the Bloodlust studio version and Witching Hour which was re-recorded during the "black metal" session specially for this vhs (it played in mono). It was officially published with stereo mix only on the British Steel - England's Latest Heavy Metal Invasion compilation from 1984. This version here is taken from that compilation.
This version of Witching hour is even faster and more brutal that the original version from Welcome to Hell and is a proof that Venom back in 81-82 were the only and true Black Metal Gods. Enjoy!
This version should be on Welcome to Hell. It sounds creepy, fast, damp, but at the same time very atmospheric. This is a version of Witching Hour, if it were recorded on the Black Metal album. A masterpiece. Thanks to the author for such a precious find!

@@A1AuthorityMotörhead almost had a blues/classic rock feeling to them, their riffs not quite as “evil” as Venom, I think Venom opened the door to Black metal. Slayer added the true “speed metal” aspect to metal, and Mercyful Fate added the melodic/complex aspect. Hank Sherman and Michael Denner, in my opinion, 2 of the best metal guitarists out there. Metallica, to me, we’re the original “mainstream” metal band.

I have to tell you, I'm not even a Venom fan. I draw the line at Metal for the sake of Metal. I hate Black or Death Metal for example. I dig music that comes off as powerful but negativity and ignorance for feigning as cool is total shit. There are too many bands that just settled because they had nothing to say personally, or could not find a real singer. Fist bump.

Absolutely incredible!! Stands on its own as the MOST powerful metal song I ever put ears to… Everybody LOOK OUT cause this is as BAD ASS as it gets!!
Funny thing is that Abbadon sounds pretty sloppy most of times, but once you hear the whole thing from start to end you realize that the guy just pretends to be pure chaos contributing to the whole Venom's atmosphere.

This song is awesome. I used to be a big fan of Slayer.I've known about this group for a long time but never actually took the time to listen to their music. Love the lighting fast speed. The guitar riffs sound like they would be fairly simple to learn. Kinda similar to GBH guitar styling.

Was there for the birth of Venom, met them in 1983 at ZigZag records, saw them at Studio54, NYC with Slayer in 1985, so glad I had the opportunity to be a teen in the 80s decade and be there firsthand for the birth of death/speed/black/melodic Metal and live walking distance to L’Amour, Brooklyn. I saw the birth of all of them, met all of them, all standup guys. My friends band, Disciple, opened for Saxon at L’Amour, Saxon were a bunch of dicks. Fuck them.

@@outis439-A Black Metal is more than just tremolo picking. Venom have elements that have crystalized thrash, death, black metal, but they as a band are not black metal and never were. By your logic Slayer can also be passed as black metal band. Black Metal was created, defined and perfected by Bathory.

I mean Bathory is not black metal either. It’s first wave black metal or thrash (I mean technically they are black metal because sub genres of black metal like black n roll and blackened thrash are basically what they did) but other than that, Bathory isn’t really black metal either. They have black metal elements like the necro production. But that still stands- the chorus riff progression is totally something Thorns would write and obviously the end are totally black metal elements. Probably why Mayhem covered this song. Kinda. Bathory was more of an influence on those Norwegian Bands but isn’t black metal really. I mean perfected? They’re aren’t even any black beats- and they’re is still those thrash riffs Venom has here. It’s like take War by Burzum- the riff is very thrashy but with that black metal aesthetic. But still black metal riffs here no? Kinda the start of black metal

I have this double album
I don't see it as more brutal than the original, I see it as better performed and recorded. There is a balance in heavy music between execution, production and atmosphere. Too polished it loses the impact and the "evilness", but if it doesn't produce properly it's an identifiable sound mass.
