  • It turns out if you have a warehouse and you get engine deliveries regularly... you basically have to have forklift. I borrowed an old Allis-Chalmers from a friend a night ago and it was a bit more sketchy than I'd like. Then my friend Tyler messaged me and said they had an old Clark they were going to scrap. When they said they'd sell it to me for $1,000 I said I'd be there as fast as possible. I picked it up, fixed it with a battery, and now there's just a few little things to make it perfect. Also it's not a 🅱️OOSAN.

It also butched the lawn because it had no floating head. It cost more to build than a new riding mower.

Biggest areas to check on a used forklift that's either electric or propane:
Forks - look for cracks or blades that are not aligned.
Lift Chains - check for excessive or out of place gaps between links.
Mast - watch how smoothly the mast operates when going up and down. Ask to see how it works with a load as well.
Tires - look for chunking, radial cracks and tread depth. Make sure the tires are fairly new.
Battery - for electric forklifts, look at the age of the battery, ask how many hours of use the battery has and measure the voltage.
Engine - for diesel forklifts check the exhaust emissions.
Leaks - look along the mast, transmission and radiator for any leaks.
Safety Features - make sure the horn, seatbelt, lights, brakes, and levers all work.
Great work overall! You found a steal, she's got some beauty marks but as long as you PM every 500 hours or every 6 months you'll be in great shape!

Got to love O’Reilys over Adv_____! JR walks in - I need a random forklift battery for an old Clark forklift. Sure thing! I walk into an Adv________ and ask for a battery for a 2005 Chevy Colorado. No sir, we don’t carry those. I can order one and have it here tomorrow, after 5.....

Back in 1982, I drove one just like it at my new job. I was the production manager at a sheltered workshop. You might find out what I found out. Anytime I moved a pallet of anything anywhere in the shop, when I got to my destination with the fork lift, someone would be standing in the spot I was headed for, waiting for me to pass! Best job I ever had. Retired from there in 2006. N.E.OH Bob

Consider putting a battery maintainer on it. You may not be using it enough to keep the battery charged. Low state of charge kills Pb batteries.

Hi JR, What a sweet forklift! I used to drive one at work. You should check out all of the hoses for hairline cracks. Don't get too crazy and carried away with having fun on the forklift. Plenty of people have been smashed to death. Please use it with respect. It is very heavy and can tip over easily. SAFETY FIRST. With that said, enjoy. 🌸
