The relief on the hydraulic tank is so you don't take a bath when you change the filter or have to open it up for whatever reason. That's a damn fine machine my friend. Can't wait to see it on a project.
@@SuperZylar Yepper. Cavitation will destroy a pump quicker than anything else. Even with gear pumps, each tooth creates a low pressure area on the back side. Heck water boils at room temperature under a vacuum, yet in a nuclear reactor, despite seeing temps way above 212°, the high pressure raises the boiling point so far it won't boil. It's pretty wild really.
@@pamike4873 I believe I've heard from salesman that a pressurized system helps keep down dust/water ingress. If it wasn't sealed it would breathe a bit in and out correlating to temp going up and down. Even when its sitting. About nuclear reactors, I saw on a documentary about types of reactors, some run up to 600-800° f, but don't boil because it's under so much pressure. Same reason why car coolant loops are run pressurized, to increase the boiling point. Totally different kettle of fish as to why a ex reservoir runs pressurized. I never thought of it decreasing cavitation, but makes sense.
Mitsubishi engines are great, they will last at least 20.000 hours when maintained. This one seems to be, and it starts great. Dont forget to change out the swing oil. Water will get in the bottom of it and ruins the lower bearing. Especially when it has been sitting for a while. All in all plenty of life left in her. Another 6000 hours is no exeption. Maybe get the hydraulic oil tested so you dont have to replace all of it, maybe half of the capacity of the tank is enough since it doesnt seem discolored. Saves you some $. Oil gets expensive pritty quick. Company i work for doesnt even bother changing hydraulic fluid. Since the hydraulic tank is under some presssure the oil doesnt "wear out" as quick as normal
@@megape95 Absolutely. This excavator having less than 7,000 on it will last Matt forever. Unless he starts his own excavation company with me, that is. Then the hours go by pretty quick, lol.
The exhaust manifolds on those Mitsubishi engines are known for cracking like that, other than that they're pretty bulletproof. Same engine was used in Mitsubishi medium trucks and you'll kill the rest of the truck before you kill the engine, just make sure to get yourself some metric tools before you try to work on it, all metric fasteners same as a Yanmar.
@@larrywalker7759 FYI. I have more than a few 10mm, I keep it by default on my drives I have found more than couple 10mm, that I lost. Randomly, a couple of 8mm down the battery box void, I also have the GM battery tool.
I use to work for Kobelco in Calhoun Ga where they built the excavators from 2003 to 2009. I set the swing motors and built the small valves ,control valves for them. The pressure release valve on the hydraulic tanks was used when you lowered the boom down to the ground for changing the hydraulic hoses out .. it helped to relieve some of the pressure off the lines
A Thumb! Matt, exhaust manifolds usually crack from high exhaust temps. On a charge cooled engine, look at the charge pipes/clamps, cooler and intake manifold area for leaks. Newer engines use a ductile iron for the exhaust manifolds. Even using Ni rod, the casting will crack again right next to the repair. Best bet is new. Nice score!
Nice Matt, that is going to be a great asset. One recommendation, get that exhaust fixed before you use it too much, especially in winter. You don't want to suck any cold air in on shutdown and have it come across those nice hot valves. Looks like the hydraulics operate very smoothly. Makes life much easier. I can't believe you actually got that for the price. Would be nice to add a good thumb. Congrats.

Looks like a decent running machine, preetty quick, a good buy! Don't forget you have the pin grabber coupler, you can reverse the bucket and scoop forward like a shovel.
I’d say that the first upgrade after you do the necessary maintenance and repair should definitely be a thumb. I’ve always felt that excavators are a bit useless without one lol. Excellent find.
Nice find. Degreaser and a hot water pressure washer. Use a 2:1 paint thinner - boiled linseed oil mix and spray or brush on then wipe with a paper towel and the paint will look like new. A new seat or at least a new cover will make for a much nicer cab.
That is a good deal! I was thinking you were going to say 20 to 25 or so, after you get her serviced all she needs is a thumb to complete it for doing even more work.
Kobelco's are great excavators, you got a heck of deal on that unit. It looks to have been used hard but maintained. A little TLC ought to have it sorted out in no time. The Mitsu 6d-34T is a great engine actually their only weak spot is the exhaust manifolds. I would just get a new manifold as they can be impossible to weld as the cast used is full of crap so it is a real crap shoot if you will be able to weld it and get it to last.. There are lots of low-cost aftermarket knock-offs for that engine since it was used worldwide so finding one should not be too hard..
It was cool watching the excavator tracking in high speed, I wish they had a road gear like that sometimes. Now that you and Bradley are done clearing land, you get a big excavator lol. Besides sitting for a while, it seems like the previous owner cared about it.
Has air over hydraulics to push down on the fluid provides some initial boost when operating. Probably a pump for it around the alternator (well for Hitachi UH083) it is......
I used to work at Precision Steel &Welding, a steel fabrication company in Siler City, N. Carolina from 1990 to 2001. I was a press brake operator and bent the angles on steel plates for Kobelco and other excavator brands. We made excavator dog houses that hold the rollers on the non- dirt-touching side of the bottom of the tracks. I also bent boom and bucket parts. The hydraulic tank has a pressure relief valve so you can release the pressure when you do a greasing service. The hydraulic tank builds pressure from the hydraulic oil getting hot and expanding plus heating the air inside the hydraulic tank, as air is heated it expands creating pressure. Love your videos. They are never boring. lots of variety.

It always seems like the really huge ones are cheaper than the little ones. Like the free, giant loader was that way too. Maybe because they are hard to haul? or they intimidate DIY people? where bigger companies want newer? to depreciate etc?
@@alan6832 the number of people that can invest “maybe money” on an excavator are limited when the units get bigger. It means that it is an operator level person with resources to haul, store, perform repairs, and find enough “make work” projects for while getting the machine into production level fitness.
It’s mainly all of what Alan said, most are afraid to mess with the bigger stuff, plus some don’t care to fool with it because they are afraid of the abuse it could have gone through too.

I was a Hydraulic technician for SunSource (have a big national presence for hydraulic repair) as a excavator repair tech. The main pump in this machine is the Kawasaki K3V and is a great pump, usually we would start seeing failures around that 10,000 hr mark but stay up to date on your preventative maintenance and cross the fingers. If you ever have hydraulic questions shoot me a message. I worked on the main pumps, swing motors, final drives, travel motors, etc...Enjoy your videos!

When I was driving these types of machines, they used to weld bits of old cutting edges to the bottom of the buckets to extend the life of them, being a strong point for wear, they need it on old buckets.
I worked construction from the 80's to retirement. I once saw an operator hammering a stake in the ground at the limit of his boom and did it so gently the man holding the stake never had to take his hand off.
Matt, that's a pretty nice older machine. 7,000 hours ....it still has many hours left in it and the undercarriage will last a long time for you as much as you'll use it. A good detail inside the cab, a seat cover and some paint/body work and you'll be styling. When you paint it, use an airless paint sprayer. I used to paint cranes for Lampson International (crane company) and that is the way to go. More paint material on the machine and WAY faster. I have ran mostly Cat equipment in my career, but I had a favorite loader and it was a old Kobelco and I loved it. It had a single joystick bucket control unlike the Cats with the double levers for the bucket. It would start immediately in the coldest condition no matter what where the Cats were harder starting. I think you made a nice purchase there! You stole that for $16K in my opinion. First thing, I would replace the manifold ASAP. A thumb, a full service, about 6 or 8 gallons of industrial equipment paint and a manifold and you'll be set! You're a very smart, well driven young man with a bright future ahead of you! You're one of my favorite CZcamsrs for sure. Love your humor!

I've got to believe that this is your best purchase to date for price, condition and usefulness. Knowing your wife's reaction to your past purchases and how intelligent she is, I think she would have knocked you out if you had passed up this deal. It's kinda refreshing to know that the rehab will be minimal and we'll get to see you using it more in short order, even though we love the rehabs as much as anything. Can't wait to hear that repaired manifold make her purr.
I wish we had that much snow Mat.Because me and a buddy today shovelled 3 feet of snow off my 24 x 64 house roof.Most snow in a long while.And we still have a least 2.5 months of winter.

Old Mitsu engines are fantastic. years ago my sister had an older used Hyundai she got and it had a Mitsubishi engine they were using back then, I was delighted. yours is even better.

Machines sitting for years unused at job sites is a common thing. I think some construction firms leave them there to collect payment for " being on the jobside" even tho the project got delayed for whatever reason. Sadly this also attracts some unwanted guests and vandalism that probably lead to that smashed window... 16:00 I count 15 factory warning stickers on that window, there must be a worker on the assembly line who does nothing else all day then to glue these on there :)
Feels like a part 2, unit is already operational without any major repairs or even fluid changes. No leaks, hose blow outs, fuel delivery failure, eletrical failure, track/sprocket issues, tranny, mouse houses, etc........... Great find!!! Hopefully Part 1 I mean part 2 won't find any major issues.
Hi Matt, the idea of the breather on the hydraulic tank is to give you positive supply to your pump, and the pressure relief is if you have to crack the system to change hoses or hydraulic filters also helps with condensation.
Hi Matt, everything Matt says is good advice, one other reason a pressurized system is good is if you replace a pump, you can pressurize the system to bleed the pump and lines so you don’t run a pump with air in it. You probably know if you run a hydraulic pump with air in it, cavitation can occur and that will usually cause damage to the pump. Good buy on that excavator, it’s going to be fun watching you work on/with this one!

Man I would have a absolute blast cleaning that cab. OCD satisfaction guaranteed. Edit: After bending that hydraulic pump door straight I would personally strengthen it. It looks like you can bend it by just yanking it open. (Especially if the hinges are a bit seized).
That pressure valve you've got there it's to stop the hydraulics fluid pissing out if you got a burst hose instead of waiting for the hydraulic fluid to cooldown and if you want to fill up the hydraulic tank be pushing that in it depressurise the tank to make it easy

Hi matt, Your purchase with the Kobelco Excavator seems a super good investment. Everything seems to function entirely properly. I think you as soon as the weather permits you should start with a high pressure cleaning so that you can see the condition of the paint well and the machine will need some major maintenance but that is entrusted to you. These are great machines, I'm a dealer tech so I know them well, not sure if it's a ore or post minor change -6 machine. Pre minor machines have fewer buttons on the dash, unless it's been replaced. The other indicator is if there's a grommet on the controller.

Unclog rattle cans. The best way that I have found to unclog spray cans is to use compressed air. My air nozzle has a rubber tip that works fine to insert over the paint can spray nozzle tube. All it takes is a short burst into the can and then shake the can like crazy. Works every time guarantied. Great channel keep up the good work Leon
Oh and if I can add, the Mitsibushi (similar to Korean Hyundai) engines are "bullet-proof", they are reliable robust, well-engineered low maintenance units.

I'd check to see if it takes an inner air filter. You've probably thought of that but just making sure. Cheapest you could find and it runs is quite impressive even if it sounds rough. Good video. 👍

Some red goo, strip of stainless toolwrap and a hose clamp would have got it cobbled up just fine. But you found a manifold and fixed it right. Good job. Been my experience that diesel manifolds weld up great with nickle rod, gas manifolds get out the torch, high heat flux, and the square filler rod. Then you have to face manifold. Having a level mill is wonderful, tablesaw and wood blocks are your friend, wood has a little bit of give, use the level. Bought a 4" starrett years ago, it is my go to for mill set ups such as this. You found manifold, great deal, but it would have been a relatively easy fix
Matt this machine is worth putting some money into. A 25 ton machine is a game changer for you. Maybe you need to start digging ponds like you know who!

Yup we just got that same ice storm here in Highland County Ohio. Must have been 4 inches thick by morning on 1/4. It’s just now starting the thaw. I’m really surprised we didn’t lose power in my area but 58,000 lost power here. Crews are still working it.
It's been over 15 years since I've serviced one of those. Alot of memories. I used to work for a forklift dealer that had a construction equipment division. I did periodic maintenance and after hours, sometimes they'd send me out to service one of these. You might check with the dealer but usually those things had an inner secondary engine air filter. Might depend on dirt conditions because most of what I serviced was alot of hours run in dusty conditions. Not sure why Kobelco didn't just vent their hydraulic tanks with a regular style vent unless they were concerned about failure and contamination. Sure might help with moisture prevention keeping the system sealed to avoid condensation. That air relief valve can sure come in handy when changing the hydraulic filter. A feller doesn't want to pop that lid without relieving the air pressure, especially when she's been working hard on a 110° day. Ask me how I know... Nice machine.
about the air relief valve. some of the construction equipment i have been working on actually have the hydraulic tanks pressurized to help prevent cavitation in the hydraulic pumps by providing a higher static pressure in the feed line.
@@davidkepley4396 now that I think of it, I wish they did that to Forklifts. I've seen a handful of them over the years that had grey or cappuccino colored hydraulic fluid contaminated with water from outside filtered ventilation. Of course, none of that would happen if the fluid had been changed at recommended intervals or at least a few times over the life of the forklift. All the ones I saw that had this condition were several years old.
Hay matt great channel enjoy watching your fleet grow 2 things I want to pass on about the kobelco excavators that I have learned (I didn't look through the 2k comments so I may be telling you something you have already learned) First has to do with the swing gear box its very important to get that dipstick out and see if it has oil. The valve? Where the 4 lines that go to your boom lift cylinders there is a seal around that and they are notorious for allowing water into the inside of your swing bearing gear. In the winter the water freezes and will rip the seal out of the bottom of the swing gear box and the results are not good. I have seen it 2 times first hand The other think is the engine no i am not sure if the 250 and the 330 use the same block but on the 330 they have a problem with the rear most main bearing towards the fly wheel breaking. The block will crack above the crank and the crank will have ant least what i saw was 3/4 of an inch of end play front to back again not good. 4 years ago that particular block for the 330 was 42k just for the block. My boss opted to put in an 8.3 Cummins You may want to look into that just to be on the safe side of things Anyway good luck keep up the great work

Make sure to check and maybe change the oil in the final drive motors. That's often neglected and can be an expensive thing to replace if not maintained.
At first, I thought, "Oh no! He's bought more stuff but dang! That machine doesn't look bad at all. It will clean up nicely. Well bought. I think you would do well to acquire some hydraulic crimpers, dies, fittings and assorted hose sizes as well as an industrial size media blaster and parts cleaner! If I lived near you, I would volunteer to scrub and detail some of that old iron you're accumulating. BTW, I hope your new shop has plans for an overhead crane.
You can weld it, usually you use pure Nickel electrodes. It is not easy, as the high Carbon content in cast Iron, means it is prone to cracking. As a manifold is relatively thin walled, my recomondation is also to get a new one.
@@petergundel2956 yes your correct. Best to pre-heat the job use either pure nickel or ferro nickel welding rods and slow cool in sand. The pre-heat and slow cooling helps to avoid cracking. Note you cannot machine this type of weld only grind it.

I worked for highway equipment from 2005-2009 in the main zelienople branch just north of Pittsburgh. These machines are great and I'm sure that Mitsubishi will run just fine after a valve adjustment, fuel system service and fix the manifold. With temperatures like that, the aircon would probably not engage if it works. There is also little to no point in running the A/C right now as the temperature it would blow, is above ambient temperature.
@@J-1410 But still, most cars i have seen, have a cutoff temperature of a little over freezing point. They will not dehumidify if you get into low temperatures....From what i read, this is because at that low temperatures, the refrigerant pressure gets to low to safely operate

The relief on the hydraulic tank is so you don't take a bath when you change the filter or have to open it up for whatever reason. That's a damn fine machine my friend. Can't wait to see it on a project.
yep, and the sleight over pressure in the tank keeps it from cavitation the pump.
@@SuperZylar Yepper. Cavitation will destroy a pump quicker than anything else. Even with gear pumps, each tooth creates a low pressure area on the back side. Heck water boils at room temperature under a vacuum, yet in a nuclear reactor, despite seeing temps way above 212°, the high pressure raises the boiling point so far it won't boil. It's pretty wild really.
@@pamike4873 I believe I've heard from salesman that a pressurized system helps keep down dust/water ingress. If it wasn't sealed it would breathe a bit in and out correlating to temp going up and down. Even when its sitting.
About nuclear reactors, I saw on a documentary about types of reactors, some run up to 600-800° f, but don't boil because it's under so much pressure. Same reason why car coolant loops are run pressurized, to increase the boiling point. Totally different kettle of fish as to why a ex reservoir runs pressurized. I never thought of it decreasing cavitation, but makes sense.
Mitsubishi engines are great, they will last at least 20.000 hours when maintained. This one seems to be, and it starts great. Dont forget to change out the swing oil. Water will get in the bottom of it and ruins the lower bearing. Especially when it has been sitting for a while. All in all plenty of life left in her. Another 6000 hours is no exeption. Maybe get the hydraulic oil tested so you dont have to replace all of it, maybe half of the capacity of the tank is enough since it doesnt seem discolored. Saves you some $. Oil gets expensive pritty quick. Company i work for doesnt even bother changing hydraulic fluid.
Since the hydraulic tank is under some presssure the oil doesnt "wear out" as quick as normal

The exhaust manifolds on those Mitsubishi engines are known for cracking like that, other than that they're pretty bulletproof. Same engine was used in Mitsubishi medium trucks and you'll kill the rest of the truck before you kill the engine, just make sure to get yourself some metric tools before you try to work on it, all metric fasteners same as a Yanmar.
Pretty sure Matt has all the Metric tools by now except a 10mm socket, and every mechanic in the world is missing a 10mm socket.
All things are metric. my 2000 taurus, my 2006 brother of yours f250. All metric. 36mm socket for f250 fuel filter. I drove for Pepsi for 24yrs.

I use to work for Kobelco in Calhoun Ga where they built the excavators from 2003 to 2009. I set the swing motors and built the small valves ,control valves for them. The pressure release valve on the hydraulic tanks was used when you lowered the boom down to the ground for changing the hydraulic hoses out .. it helped to relieve some of the pressure off the lines
A Thumb! Matt, exhaust manifolds usually crack from high exhaust temps. On a charge cooled engine, look at the charge pipes/clamps, cooler and intake manifold area for leaks. Newer engines use a ductile iron for the exhaust manifolds. Even using Ni rod, the casting will crack again right next to the repair. Best bet is new. Nice score!

You don't want to suck any cold air in on shutdown and have it come across those nice hot valves. Looks like the hydraulics operate very smoothly. Makes life much easier. Looks like a decent running machine, preetty quick, a good buy! Don't forget you have the pin grabber coupler, you can reverse the bucket and scoop forward like a shovel.
I’d say that the first upgrade after you do the necessary maintenance and repair should definitely be a thumb. I’ve always felt that excavators are a bit useless without one lol. Excellent find.

Nice find. Degreaser and a hot water pressure washer. Use a 2:1 paint thinner - boiled linseed oil mix and spray or brush on then wipe with a paper towel and the paint will look like new. A new seat or at least a new cover will make for a much nicer cab.
That is a good deal! I was thinking you were going to say 20 to 25 or so, after you get her serviced all she needs is a thumb to complete it for doing even more work.
Kobelco's are great excavators, you got a heck of deal on that unit. It looks to have been used hard but maintained. A little TLC ought to have it sorted out in no time. The Mitsu 6d-34T is a great engine actually their only weak spot is the exhaust manifolds. I would just get a new manifold as they can be impossible to weld as the cast used is full of crap so it is a real crap shoot if you will be able to weld it and get it to last.. There are lots of low-cost aftermarket knock-offs for that engine since it was used worldwide so finding one should not be too hard..
I second the call for a NEW exhaust manifold. Less grief all round.

Exhaust manifolds are common issue on all Mitsu products, their cars suffer cracking issues too, replaced quite a few over the years.
Shoot, a little flex seal with fix that crack right up 🤣 😂.
It was cool watching the excavator tracking in high speed, I wish they had a road gear like that sometimes. Now that you and Bradley are done clearing land, you get a big excavator lol. Besides sitting for a while, it seems like the previous owner cared about it.
Has air over hydraulics to push down on the fluid provides some initial boost when operating. Probably a pump for it around the alternator (well for Hitachi UH083) it is......
I used to work at Precision Steel &Welding, a steel fabrication company in Siler City, N. Carolina from 1990 to 2001. I was a press brake operator and bent the angles on steel plates for Kobelco and other excavator brands. We made excavator dog houses that hold the rollers on the non- dirt-touching side of the bottom of the tracks. I also bent boom and bucket parts.
The hydraulic tank has a pressure relief valve so you can release the pressure when you do a greasing service.
The hydraulic tank builds pressure from the hydraulic oil getting hot and expanding plus heating the air inside the hydraulic tank, as air is heated it expands creating pressure. Love your videos. They are never boring. lots of variety.
Its going to look great all cleaned up. The better deal is never the one listed. The things I've gotten from simply saying, "so, what else you got for sale?"
And some times little pushes in that direction help or just letting them talk things out help too. I have come across way better deals that way also.
It always seems like the really huge ones are cheaper than the little ones. Like the free, giant loader was that way too. Maybe because they are hard to haul? or they intimidate DIY people? where bigger companies want newer? to depreciate etc?

It means that it is an operator level person with resources to haul, store, perform repairs, and find enough “make work” projects for while getting the machine into production level fitness.
It’s mainly all of what Alan said, most are afraid to mess with the bigger stuff, plus some don’t care to fool with it because they are afraid of the abuse it could have gone through too.

I was a Hydraulic technician for SunSource (have a big national presence for hydraulic repair) as a excavator repair tech. The main pump in this machine is the Kawasaki K3V and is a great pump, usually we would start seeing failures around that 10,000 hr mark but stay up to date on your preventative maintenance and cross the fingers. If you ever have hydraulic questions shoot me a message. I worked on the main pumps, swing motors, final drives, travel motors, etc...Enjoy your videos!

When I was driving these types of machines, they used to weld bits of old cutting edges to the bottom of the buckets to extend the life of them, being a strong point for wear, they need it on old buckets.
I worked construction from the 80's to retirement. I once saw an operator hammering a stake in the ground at the limit of his boom and did it so gently the man holding the stake never had to take his hand off.
Matt, that's a pretty nice older machine. 7,000 hours ....it still has many hours left in it and the undercarriage will last a long time for you as much as you'll use it. A good detail inside the cab, a seat cover and some paint/body work and you'll be styling. When you paint it, use an airless paint sprayer. I used to paint cranes for Lampson International (crane company) and that is the way to go. More paint material on the machine and WAY faster. I have ran mostly Cat equipment in my career, but I had a favorite loader and it was a old Kobelco and I loved it. It had a single joystick bucket control unlike the Cats with the double levers for the bucket. It would start immediately in the coldest condition no matter what where the Cats were harder starting. I think you made a nice purchase there! You stole that for $16K in my opinion. First thing, I would replace the manifold ASAP. A thumb, a full service, about 6 or 8 gallons of industrial equipment paint and a manifold and you'll be set! You're a very smart, well driven young man with a bright future ahead of you! You're one of my favorite CZcamsrs for sure. Love your humor!

It's kinda refreshing to know that the rehab will be minimal and we'll get to see you using it more in short order, even though we love the rehabs as much as anything. Can't wait to hear that repaired manifold make her purr.

Old Mitsu engines are fantastic. years ago my sister had an older used Hyundai she got and it had a Mitsubishi engine they were using back then, I was delighted. yours is even better.

Machines sitting for years unused at job sites is a common thing. I think some construction firms leave them there to collect payment for " being on the jobside" even tho the project got delayed for whatever reason. Sadly this also attracts some unwanted guests and vandalism that probably lead to that smashed window...
16:00 I count 15 factory warning stickers on that window, there must be a worker on the assembly line who does nothing else all day then to glue these on there :)
Feels like a part 2, unit is already operational without any major repairs or even fluid changes. No leaks, hose blow outs, fuel delivery failure, eletrical failure, track/sprocket issues, tranny, mouse houses, etc........... Great find!!! Hopefully Part 1 I mean part 2 won't find any major issues.
A seat cover, bucket of water and a quick paint job & she'll be good as new.

Hi Matt, the idea of the breather on the hydraulic tank is to give you positive supply to your pump, and the pressure relief is if you have to crack the system to change hoses or hydraulic filters also helps with condensation.
Hi Matt, everything Matt says is good advice, one other reason a pressurized system is good is if you replace a pump, you can pressurize the system to bleed the pump and lines so you don’t run a pump with air in it. You probably know if you run a hydraulic pump with air in it, cavitation can occur and that will usually cause damage to the pump. Good buy on that excavator, it’s going to be fun watching you work on/with this one!

It looks like you can bend it by just yanking it open. (Especially if the hinges are a bit seized).
That pressure valve you've got there it's to stop the hydraulics fluid pissing out if you got a burst hose instead of waiting for the hydraulic fluid to cooldown and if you want to fill up the hydraulic tank be pushing that in it depressurise the tank to make it easy

I think you as soon as the weather permits you should start with a high pressure cleaning so that you can see the condition of the paint well and the machine will need some major maintenance but that is entrusted to you. These are great machines, I'm a dealer tech so I know them well, not sure if it's a ore or post minor change -6 machine. Pre minor machines have fewer buttons on the dash, unless it's been replaced. The other indicator is if there's a grommet on the controller.

Unclog rattle cans. The best way that I have found to unclog spray cans is to use compressed air. My air nozzle has a rubber tip that works fine to insert over the paint can spray nozzle tube. All it takes is a short burst into the can and then shake the can like crazy. Works every time guarantied. Great channel keep up the good work Leon

Some red goo, strip of stainless toolwrap and a hose clamp would have got it cobbled up just fine. But you found a manifold and fixed it right. Good job. Been my experience that diesel manifolds weld up great with nickle rod, gas manifolds get out the torch, high heat flux, and the square filler rod. Then you have to face manifold. Having a level mill is wonderful, tablesaw and wood blocks are your friend, wood has a little bit of give, use the level. Bought a 4" starrett years ago, it is my go to for mill set ups such as this. You found manifold, great deal, but it would have been a relatively easy fix

Yup we just got that same ice storm here in Highland County Ohio. Must have been 4 inches thick by morning on 1/4. It’s just now starting the thaw. I’m really surprised we didn’t lose power in my area but 58,000 lost power here. Crews are still working it.

It's been over 15 years since I've serviced one of those. Alot of memories. I used to work for a forklift dealer that had a construction equipment division. I did periodic maintenance and after hours, sometimes they'd send me out to service one of these. You might check with the dealer but usually those things had an inner secondary engine air filter. Might depend on dirt conditions because most of what I serviced was alot of hours run in dusty conditions. Not sure why Kobelco didn't just vent their hydraulic tanks with a regular style vent unless they were concerned about failure and contamination. Sure might help with moisture prevention keeping the system sealed to avoid condensation. That air relief valve can sure come in handy when changing the hydraulic filter. A feller doesn't want to pop that lid without relieving the air pressure, especially when she's been working hard on a 110° day. Ask me how I know... Nice machine.
about the air relief valve. some of the construction equipment i have been working on actually have the hydraulic tanks pressurized to help prevent cavitation in the hydraulic pumps by providing a higher static pressure in the feed line.

@@davidkepley4396 now that I think of it, I wish they did that to Forklifts. I've seen a handful of them over the years that had grey or cappuccino colored hydraulic fluid contaminated with water from outside filtered ventilation. Of course, none of that would happen if the fluid had been changed at recommended intervals or at least a few times over the life of the forklift. All the ones I saw that had this condition were several years old.
Got to admit, was disappointed that when you drove from the trailer up your drive, you didn't try and open the gate with the bucket! She's a beauty.

2 things I want to pass on about the kobelco excavators that I have learned
(I didn't look through the 2k comments so I may be telling you something you have already learned)
First has to do with the swing gear box its very important to get that dipstick out and see if it has oil. The valve? Where the 4 lines that go to your boom lift cylinders there is a seal around that and they are notorious for allowing water into the inside of your swing bearing gear. In the winter the water freezes and will rip the seal out of the bottom of the swing gear box and the results are not good. I have seen it 2 times first hand
The other think is the engine no i am not sure if the 250 and the 330 use the same block but on the 330 they have a problem with the rear most main bearing towards the fly wheel breaking. The block will crack above the crank and the crank will have ant least what i saw was 3/4 of an inch of end play front to back again not good. 4 years ago that particular block for the 330 was 42k just for the block. My boss opted to put in an 8.3 Cummins
You may want to look into that just to be on the safe side of things

56klb+ machinery is pretty much exclusively the domain of the type of trailer you saw at the yard he picked it up from.
Yup we just got that same ice storm here in Highland County Ohio. Must have been 4 inches thick by morning on 1/4. It’s just now starting the thaw. I’m really surprised we didn’t lose power in my area but 58,000 lost power here. Crews are still working it. God Bless Our Linemen!!! They Rock!

Make sure to check and maybe change the oil in the final drive motors. That's often neglected and can be an expensive thing to replace if not maintained.
At first, I thought, "Oh no! He's bought more stuff but dang! That machine doesn't look bad at all. It will clean up nicely. Well bought.
I think you would do well to acquire some hydraulic crimpers, dies, fittings and assorted hose sizes as well as an industrial size media blaster and parts cleaner!
If I lived near you, I would volunteer to scrub and detail some of that old iron you're accumulating. BTW, I hope your new shop has plans for an overhead crane.
Nice machine. That manifold is not hard to get out at all. And they aren’t terribly expensive

You can weld it, usually you use pure Nickel electrodes. It is not easy, as the high Carbon content in cast Iron, means it is prone to cracking. As a manifold is relatively thin walled, my recomondation is also to get a new one.
@@petergundel2956 yes your correct. Best to pre-heat the job use either pure nickel or ferro nickel welding rods and slow cool in sand. The pre-heat and slow cooling helps to avoid cracking. Note you cannot machine this type of weld only grind it.

Because one contract under the right conditions could have easily paid it off when it was new.

I worked for highway equipment from 2005-2009 in the main zelienople branch just north of Pittsburgh. These machines are great and I'm sure that Mitsubishi will run just fine after a valve adjustment, fuel system service and fix the manifold. Not sure if the AC works, but I'd be willing to bet it'd blow cold air when he made that video.
With temperatures like that, the aircon would probably not engage if it works.
There is also little to no point in running the A/C right now as the temperature it would blow, is above ambient temperature.
Would be a big surprise if it did but then maybe they make these machines AC systems a bit more robustly than they do cars... but probably not.

They will not dehumidify if you get into low temperatures....From what i read, this is because at that low temperatures, the refrigerant pressure gets to low to safely operate
