Why the EU keeps up with Orban is beyond me.Article 7 of the treaty of the European Union gives member states the possibility to suspend certain rights of membership. Or with a qualified majority they can put more sanctions on Hungary. Orban is never going to leave the EU, he's the thorn in the side of the EU... . The current model of the European Union where certain decisions depend on unanimous voting doesn't work anymore. Europe will never grow if a few states can block the majority.

For Moldova everything is very simple. Should Ukraine lose the war either Moldova will be captured (in case of direct Russian control over Odesa) or pro-Russian regime (in case of indirect control over Odesa) will be installed there. This is absolutely inevitable in case of Ukraine´s defeat.

@@Anton_DanylchenkoRussia will push how strong the Rumanian and Moldovan relationship is since if they do join their government will upheld and their sovereignty will be respected but Russia would only deal with the Moldovan government. Just how USA promised to protect Ukraine but the global environment doesn't allow America too focus on one opponent.
However, this is only if Russia really wants land to expand.
Throughout the war we have seen this not to be the case. The issue in Ukraine and Russia is personal Russia will not cause what it doesn't. It for sure doesn't want more wars than it has and so far the International Commitment to Ukraine has failed which was the real test, where countries going to run in and protect Ukraine or where they gonna stand and watch??
Russia doesnt know the case for anyone else. They know if Poland or the Baltic countries get involved they will infact have direct NATO help,... Under American suggestion though i wonder how many european countries would give their soldiers and not tell america to give theirs.
Basically the Zelensky speeches that Russia will be marching in Germany if they don't help Ukraine are wrong, Russia is filling the gaps that NATO hasn't around its borders.
Maybe in the future we can have a united Slavic force against Russia? For now, i can't see Russia involving themselves with a NATO vs Russian World War 3 that you guys imagine. This war is personal and individual. you are wasting your time imagining countries running and fighting Russia. they are strategically moving with politics so if they get in another conflict. In fact, identities of these 2 of 3 "nations" were created artificially in opposition to the strong identity of the Baltic Germans, so that Germany could not shake the stability in the region. As for Lithuania, it was only called that, the Principality of Lithuania was inhabited by Orthodox Russians, wrote, spoke and kept documentation in Russian, at one time laid claim to the unification of Russia instead of Moscow, and then had two options: either to be absorbed by Russia under the rule of Moscow, or unite with Poland and lose its influence as a strong state. There could be a knock on effect for this fickle sociopath inasmuch Euro money goess to Euro industries only to manufacture our way to salvation. At that point he might start some serious thinking but not before.
Best we start building that industrial base to enable our own defence right now. Not in a year but right now.
To think otherwise would be highly irresponsible and possible terminally dangerous for some parts of the alliance.
Both the EU and the non EU nations needs to work together or maybe face the defeat of democracy within our continent once more.

BTW no, your assessment is completely wrong on Bakhmut. Urkainians lost Zaporozhia exactly because of Bakhmut. If they have attacked right after their offensive near Kherson, they could probably cut the demoralized russian forces into two. They instead walked into the trap, used up resources and manpower to defend a city, which they knew by january that they will eventually lose, and gave a ton of time to the Russians to fortify the frontlines. NATO high command literally begged them to give up the city and focus on Zaporozhia. The main reason why they dont get half of NATOs operational equipment, which would be needed to crush the Russians is because they make these great mistakes and not following advice.

Now the problem is, that if you give them the tanks and airplanes and they lose them because similar incompetence, then with what will you defend NATO? This should be priority No1. Latvia has also attempted procurement of HIMARS and ATACMS. Furthermore our JTAC forces are being trained up.

    We're already at WW3. It's different than WW2 as WW2 was different to WW1.
Every one of them is fought with the technology and means of its time. Today we have Internet and open borders, global supply chains.
We are vulnerable at fronts that didn't exist in the last century.
Putin knows how to fight all types of wars: hybrid war, informational war though he might be poor in fighting physical wars.
The endgame in WW3 is about democracies vs. dictatorships.
Ukraine is important not only becuase its the just cause. It's also the ultimate challenge for democracies to proove their resilience and decisiveness to stand with each other.
NATO was never challenged through its time being. If Russia is not stopped, the unity in NATO can easily break.

I''ve seen some people from the Baltic states expressing confidence they can hold their own until help arrives. Sorry to say it guys but your assumption that help is actually coming might be overly optimistic. Imagine this: US decides to fall into isolationism or simply gets too busy with China to provide significant support. Right now they have about 10k soldiers in Europe and that's not nearly enough to make a significant difference. They'd need to send tens if not hundreds of thousands and there's no telling if they'll be willing to enter a full scale conflict with another nuclear power.
Put yourself in the shoes of a US president, whomever he could be (heaven forbid if it's Trump or another isolationist). Russia chooses to attack the Baltic states. What are your options?
    1. Mobilize and send at least a hundred thousand US personnel with necessary equipment to Europe and throw them into the meatgrinder just so you can defend countries most Americans never heard about. On top of that take a risk of situation spinning out of control and seeing nuclear explosions over american cities.
    2. Just pull back and make a deal with Russia. Sure, NATO will disintegrate and US will lose a lot of it's credibility. It will have to resort to bilateral deals with other countries when it comes to collective security and no one will trust them quite the same way as they do now. It will be costly for sure but if the alternative is a potential nuclear war what do you think he'll choose?
So, if US support cannot be guaranteed do you think French or Germans will be ready and willing to pick up the slack? How about Italians or Spanish? Politicians in Madrid will have a hard time convincing their population they now have to send their men to Latvia to die while US does nothing - they'll likely just follow the american leadership rather than jump to the fore. Poles or Finns would likely want to fight but without help from anyone else they'll be hard pressed to defend their own borders, let alone waltz into the Baltic states where they might easily get cut off from their supply base and be destroyed.
I'm afraid the idea of supplying Ukraine with just enough arms to keep them in the war but not quite enough to win is extremely short sighted and might have catastrophic consequences. Just like giving a patient enough antibiotic so he can survive but not enough for him to get well you might end up with one hell of a disease that's more dangerous than ever and highly resistant to your antibiotics. We might get to having WWIII on our hands simply because of the myopia and the sheer stupidity of Washington, Berlin or Paris. Putin already sees them as weak and undecisive, so he might well be willing to play chicken knowing they don't have the balls and they'll cave in first. I'm not sure what is worse - that he'll turn up to be right or wrong. In the former case we might see brutal occupation of eastern Europe and the break up of NATO. In the latter we might see nukes flying around - or at the very least the bodies of thousands of men and women.

Well said. Poland and Ukraine must acquire nuclear weapons in large numbers. Russia the perpetual invader can have no significant advantage in any area. The US is an unreliable but often useful ally for Europe and everywhere else. Sweden would be wise to also acquire nuclear weapons but psychologically this would be too big a jump for them but when the shyt hits the fan it would then be too late. Sweden could in the mean time develop the platforms needed for the delivery of nuclear weapons.

The Baltic states are in the EU and thus will be defended by Europe. Unless Russia manages to compromise every government in the EU, then there is no way they wouldnt intervene to defend.
Russia has pretty much destroyed it's economy and military just to take eastern Ukraine. And as much as Russian bots will say that Ukraine is finished if aid stops, they arent going to completely fall. Putin carried out one of the biggest geopolitical blunders in all of human history and invading the baltics would just be outdoing himself.

That's a spot on analysis. I don't believe any German would defend Baltics or Poland. All I see is Scholz sending his army a message not to interfere and pull back as soon as Russians invade. There is a long history of Germany playing only on it's pure interest over interest of it's EU eastern nieghbours. Despite the war is waging - Germany is unable to fulfill it's NATO obligations and spend 2% of it's GDP on defense. I think that deep in their hearts they still believe they will have NS2 in operation in some time.

The truth is it costs peanuts, yet people are unwilling to pay it.
All U.S. help (including material help like tanks and replenishing stocks. Those are the things that you need anyway or replace eventually. They also can't be sold for that price on Ebay or be used as homeless shelters. Keep it in mind) is 75 bln dollars. This includes humanitarian help. It's a lot for me, but 2 years of help is only 0,29% of GDP for the most powerful empire on Earth. If you make 5 000 dollars, it's 15 bucks. Is it much? There are some people who in the US live paycheck to paycheck or struggle to put food on the table. But is it worth it to stop sacred democratic institutions? To keep hostage their own country? A few (let's remember that too) congress”people” who use human tragedy as a blackmail tool to keep brown people away from the borders.
I think that some politicians don't understand (or don't give a f*ck) what is the stake of this war. That Russian victory may provoke a domino of right-wing, pro-Putin reaction in Europe. And they will still vote no for homeless shelters. I'm not asking anyone to vote them out. I'm just warning about supporting the enemy to benefit in partisan politics. I also don't perceive trafficking dead bodies of people who died in this war as an occupation of civilized man.
    God, I hate politicians.

It is true that the collapse of the Russian Federation into smaller states would be destabilizing in many ways, but ultimately, I do not think it would be dangerous. In even that Russian loss in Ukraine will bring down Putin (and it almost certainly would), I think the US and NATO would be right there to make sure that 1) Russia’s nuclear weapons remain in responsible hands, and 2) that Russia does not disintegrate into failing states, but some sort of confederation between the various parts of Russia, kind of like the government of the USA. What a lot of people do not realize is that the USA is not really one nation-its more like 50 mini-nations that voluntarily agree to cooperate with each other for collective defense and productivity-which is what the US Federal Government is for. Most services in the United States are provided by the states and many private companies.
Russia likes to pretend its a federation, but it is not. It a centrally controlled autocracy with a veneer of voluntary federation only. In theory, Russian Republics like Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, the Republic of Mari El, etc are independent states with a relationship to Moscow like Pennsylvania is to Washington, D.C., but this is not the case. The leaders of Russian Republics are not chosen by the people in those republics like citizens of American states elect their governors and state legislatures: these are appointed by Moscow, and they must belong to the United Russia party or one of the authorized minority parties.
A Russia without Putin could give a federated democracy like they tried to create in the 1990s another try…but the West would have to show support without trying to direct the process, as we sort of tried to in the 1990s, and which led to the rise of people like Putin simply because corruption runs very deep in Russia, and perceived American interference or stage-managing was resented by Russians.
But a Russia that remains in Putin’s iron grip is a clear threat not only to Ukraine, but also Europe and the European-North American alliance.

The big problem with Baltic States is that it is officially a NATO, with other countries having own armies there. So attack would definitely trigger response. Even if it is technically a weak spot.
Finland could be perceived by Russians as weaker target, especially due to delusion that Russians are good in winter combat (it is why they do offensive now). But also NATO is technically not yet there and Putin could beat on Western countries not delivering on security guarantees.
Especially if they have delusional believe that they actually fight NATO in Ukraine. And such could try strike Finland, when they deem front in Ukraine as stable enough. But it is hard to predict level of Russian insanity here? It all could be a PsyOp.
