- In this video I install a set of JDM Astar NX H11 LED headlights on my 2017 Toyota 4runner. These bulbs will work on all 5th generation 4runners from the 2010 model year and up.

This looks like a great and economical solution. Also no extra wiring so looks easy. Thank you for posting.
Great video, thanks! I was just given some LED's that fit our 4Runner and will go install them now.
Dad just did mine and the cap was suctioned on. So avoid doing it during the cold outside. I'm so happy my dad swapped mine for me
Great video/info. Thanks!
great video thanks made it look super easy going to check out those bulbs too much appreciated
I did this on two of my motorcycles, and was contemplating the same on a 2010 FJ Cruiser. Investigation revealed that these conversions to LED from halogen are illegal in most cases if not all relative to federal DOT. I have not going to go back to the halogen on the motorcycles, as I don't ride them that much, and very little at night. I WILL admit that the change was dramatic on the two motorcycles.
Very good video, just quick question. How is the seal on this particular bulb? Im just worried about fogging the inside of the headlamp once rainy day comes.
Hey Mike! Thanks for all the videos. Just added low beam replacements because of this video, but now my high beams are weaker than my low beams! Can you upload a new video for high beam replacement?
thanks for the video, i have a tacoma and a 4runner too. I wish the tacoma had a cap for the housing too , im expecting condensation. whats your experience with it so far ?
I just received and installed these and they are perfect ! What a difference it makes , thanks for this video and suggestion 👍🏻
Glad I could help!
What do you think of the lights 2 years in? Have you had to replace them?
Good video, thanks. Any issues with the lights so far? Do they need to be adjusted or are other drivers flashing you because your lights are too bright?
Do you need PWM modules to do this to the high beams?
With hours of the lights on could cooling sinks get warm enough to burn the wires?
Hi question fro high beams if I get 9005 GTR Ultra 2 will those work with DRL as well or do I need to buy additional equipment.
Bulbs are currently unavailable on Amazon, any other suggestions for replacement bulbs ?
Thank you for the video- I am a TOTAL amateur- I want to change both lo and hi beams. Does this company offer both? Is hi beam upgrade pretty much same as low beam?
As I understand, the projector housing design differs between those made for LEDs and those made for halogen bulbs. Does the low beam pattern still have a nice, definite cutoff with the LED bulbs installed?
Why is there no night shot of the output?
Where can I buy these LEDs for the 4 Runner ?
How long do leds last compared to halogen?
Mike, great video. Do you have a new link for the product?
Toyota Told me the LEDs won’t work on the 2017. That I could get running lights in led but couldn’t run at the same time . I’m confused now
I bought the Lasfit replacements you posted a link to. 1 goes in fine and one will not go in far enough to twist (yet). They are only $40 and I don't think they have the quality that your has. Keep the 4Runner videos coming.
Any issues with the dust cap and Led lights?
How about the high beam bulbs?
Amazon is out of the product and don’t know when they will get them
I purchase this light about 3 months ago, they are a little deceiving, they put off a good white light and they are brighter than OEM at short range, but the distance is substantially less than that of an OEM halogen, i tried adjusting the light up but I could not get the range to match the halogen, I would say about 15-20 feet less from my testing, they work great when I’m just city driving with street lights and other Traffic illuminating the roads, but open highway, not so much.
My experience as well. Light didn’t go far enough. But was still bright
I have just started to look into this. What would you recommend for the bright lights beam and the fog lights?
Same
Hey! What’s the ligh bulb closer to the hood for? I have a 4Runner but that bulb never comes on
Great video - very instructional! - you showed low beam installation - what about high beam LED replacement? Appreciate your comments please - thanks JEFF
Wait so the fog lights come separate right? I’ve never switched out halogen bulbs for leds ones so I’m not sure
What would you do with the highbeam bulbs since they are used for daytime running lights and they run dim?
I originally ordered some sealight rand for my 2020 and the aluminum end of the bulb prevented me from twisting the bub in because it was hitting a part on the inside of the head light. is that the problem you had with the first ones you tried? Im hoping the internals of the headlight aren't different for 2020.
Yeah basically the first set wouldn't fit in the housing whereas these did
Thanks for this video. Just ordered the same lights. Was thinking about piaa and morimotos but this lights seems better. No fan or mods sold me. Thanks again!!
Good luck! Hope you enjoy them!
@@DrivenCompanion got them last night and theyre awesome!! Again thanks for the video. Very helpful!! Just in time for our camping trip to no cal!
I still don’t get why Toyota doesn’t put LED’s in from the get go.
Would be pretty cheap in the larger scheme of things
2021 4Runners have them finally.
Would you suggest transferring the rubber o-rings from the oem to these ones?
Didn't even think about it but if they fit then probably not a bad idea
Is there any interior plastic sound? When dribing or in cold weather
Haven't heard any sounds from them
With these specific headlights are you able to run your DRL’s without any flickering? Or do you either have to turn them all the way on or all the way off?
I don't have any issue with DRL's flickering but I don't believe the two are ever on at the same time either.
What bulbs are you using for the high beams on the Tacoma?
I use an older version of this same product. These should work great for your high beams
Did these get recalled?
Do these last for a long time or have to replace often ?
What do you think about HR LED GTR LIghtning? I've replaced my high beam lights with them and getting low beam by mail today. They are a bit pricier than what you showed but made specifically for 4Runner.
Gtr rank up at the top. Notice how this guy said 10,000 lumes with his Amazon bulbs? All lies. I have gtr in my Ford Explorer and they have a lifetime warranty and kick A.
@@MrRicharddale he said 10,000 lumens, 5,000 from each bulb...
What are your thoughts on the lasfits you have listed since these are not available? Also what is the issue of needing a driver on DRL so they don’t flicker on and off ?
I've been very pleased with them so far... I haven't done DRLs yet so don't have any input yet but ironically have a set on order. Stay posted!
@@DrivenCompanion awesome thanks ! Btw I use mike c as shorthand for my name also .
Same NX H11 for high and low beams? Any error code or fuse/
resistor issues?
I haven't tried them for high beams. no error codes for the low beams
High beams are 9005, refer to manual
Are the high beams the same as the DRL?
Yes, DRL are high beams with reduced power input/output
On Amazon it shows me that the bulb will not fit my 2020 4Runner, I’m guessing amazon is wrong?
I believe it will fit but not 100% certain. Pretty sure the 2020 has the same headlights as my 2017.
I used the link on the description but it says it doesn't fit on 2020 TRD off road. I would think it would be the same.
Yeah I would expect it to be the same as well but not 100% certain. I don't think headlights changed any with the 2020 refresh.
Did you try these on the 2020?
hello! just installed these on my 2019 - pro tip, the “blue ring” must be pushed in so it becomes flush with the thread. thanks!
Did you use this same brand of bulbs ?
@@alexyannone9668 Yes!
Great video! I have upgraded all interior bulbs to LEDs and low beams, high beams, fog lights, rear turn signals and reverse lights to LEDs . If you only do one thing to your 4runner it should be LEDs for the headlights and fog lights.
i installed some on my 2017 4runner and actually just returned them. I was driving back to colorado from indiana and couldn't see a thing. I actually had to stop and reinstall the halogen bulbs back in the vehicle because i couldn't see anything with them
That's odd because i notice a huge improvement. Sorry they didn't work out for you.
I installed them in my 2015 4runner and have similar results. I'm not sure what the issue is but I can hardly see the road with these lights.
Found the solution to this. The LEDs seem to throw a bit higher than the stock bulbs so I took a philips head screwdriver and adjusted the headlight throw height via clockwise turns on the adjustment gears. My beam is now throwing more onto the road instead of off into the distance!
Where did you buy the jdm dx 10000 nx bulbs???
Amazon but I don't know if they still car them there
Do you have it so the led chips are on a 9-3 position ?
I was wondering the same thing
I installed some in my wifes 2018 limited. They lit up but wouldnt project correctly. So i had to return them. Plus the thickness of the tabs wouldnt allow me to turn and lock them in. I trimmed them and got them to work but still. Beam was way off.
Is there an update video about these lights?
Nope, but I'm still pleased with them.
Did you do a swap of your daytime lights?
Not yet but its on my list for the future!
Mike C would be good to see your suggestion for the upgrade bulbs on drl’s . Just ordered the replacements for the headlights you suggested
Read manual. DRL are high beam lamp on lower power
They don’t sell them anymore - do u know where to find them now
Not sure but give these a try: amzn.to/2KAwP7V
Where did you buy the bulbs.
Link is in the description
What about the fog lights
Here's what I used: czcams.com/video/PGLGXIaMrmg/video.html
Where is the link for the light bulb?
amzn.to/2COjKRe
Hey nice video.
How are they at night? And are you still using this?
They're great at night. The only time I don't like them is when I use my brights and light reverts back to yellow. Still need to upgrade those.
@@DrivenCompanion Can you provide a link for those? Also, does these flicker at night? I heard some of these have the strobe light effect. Thank you.
@@DrivenCompanion Are the high beams a similar install?
This is currently unavailable bro. Any other recommendation?
I was going to send you the product I used on my tacoma which has been good too but they also appear to be out of stock right now. Sorry
@@DrivenCompanion true. Also I managed to get something from sealight, but led which goes into projector lamp (low beam) is really bad. I have ordered something from Lasfit.
What about high beam?
Haven't done any high beams yet but maybe that will be the next step
Have you heard of lasfit led bulb replacements, they have a product called switch back for your fog lights, turn them on and there white, turn off then back on, they are Amber for snow and fog, you can also use them for high beam, got them on my Tacoma.
@@DirtShy have not heard of these, you should drop a link so we can 🤔
Roam TV auxito is a good brand also
@ got my fingers crossed,
I don't know about your state but here in TN 5k lumens is illegal. Tennessee limits vehicles to 4 headlights that exceed no more than 300 candle power each. Lumens=CandlePower(orCandela) X 12.57. 12.57 is a constant in this equation and is the factor that you will always apply to candle ratings. In that case we come in at 3771 lumens per light. I just looked it up and In Oregon as your license plate suggests, you are also at 300 candlepower. They look cool, it's wonderful to be able to see things, but with low beams you have to think about others on the road.
Meh I run the LEDs in TN and never had an issue. Angle them right and they’ll be fine. I have never had any issues or anyone bright lighting me. The LEDs on my wife’s car stock were brighter than mine
Idk how everyone is just turning the dust cover off. Mine are so tight that the tabs are literally breaking off. My hands ache
Hi
Video is great. However, my grey caps will hardly budge in turning them to the left. 2015 SR5 4-Runner. Used WD40, pliers, hammer and screwdriver they move not even a quarter of an inch. I'm not about pay Toyota to do this either.
Thats odd... mine weren't stuck at all. The twisted off quite easy.
@@DrivenCompanion Hey Mike. I had my headlights changed a month or so ago at this custom shop. Given all the videos I've seen on removing thiese caps. This shop probably screwed them up. I have an appointment today for them to take the caps off.
@@DrivenCompanion everything was good now until I had to install the driver's side bulb. Unlike the passenger side there is a bump sticking out over top of the hole where the bulb goes in. The fan part on the Ultra 2.0 is to fat to fit below the bump and go straight in. Seems like Toyota has variations in the lights. Even though 2010 - 2019 is considered 5th Gen. Will probably need to get a grinder for that bump above. One way or another I'm going to get these bulbs in.
These should come with the 4 runner stock! We pay 50k For these Vehicles with shitty head lights? Sad
Rightttt!!! So cheap too
5000. Lm.... those only got about 1800Lm... if you check watts on those you only got about 17w to 23w..I got a 4runner 2014.. mines are adjustable. beam patterns.... led headlights. 53w.. 4runner headlights socket are sideways. not straight... in order to get the perfect beam you need adjustable base.. from led headlights. .. if you make video do it right show beam pattern at night.. ..
Yeah, LED's are brighter and who cares if you blind other drivers or pedestrians.
Yeah brighter up close but the throw sucks for long-range visibility in halogen projectors.
@@dreww2475 there are a couple of companies that made bulbs specifically for the 4runner to solve that issue. HID is still best for projectors in general.
I lowered my beam a couple inches after putting in leds. I've never been flashed and still see great.
Other drivers care, and you for one
Peds will be blinded by any vehicle's lights, regardless of tech. Other vehicles will not be blinded unless the aim is off.
There is nothing you can do about being blinded due to height though.
Don’t go with Amazon or any cheap led bulb. Any company that states a ridiculous lumen is bogus. DD GTR MORIMOTO V.4 super nova are ranked up top. Headlight revolution, TRS, motimoto, are the best places to buy your Bulbs with the best customer support. Any led with cob is a huge no no. I see a lot of people buying these bulbs.
I considered Morimoto but they are so dang expensive. I've been plenty happy with the performance of these for a fraction of the price.
