I have a tall one and the top 6 inches were damages and partially broken. I can cut the top off and re-pot as usual but what about the top of the mother plant? If I cut the top off will it continue to grow upwards or branch out? I can't have it branching off at that height as it will surely blow over. Any suggestions? Thanks for the videos.
Hi Dean, two years on how are all of the cut sections doing? Did you lose any? Also how many branches start to pup out of the cut sections? And one more thing how long did it for the rooting and how long for pupping? My situation is I have one of these pilosocereus, but unfortunately it was damaged and broken nearly in half, so I'm wondering if I should cut the two pieces & grow them separately or try to graft them back together. Your input is much appreciated, thank you!
Hi Dean, I was wondering if this plant will pup from the base once you cut the top off? Like a pedro for example when you take a cutting off the top the the rooted bottom section left in the pot will callous over at the top and pups will grow from the edges, do these Pilosocereus act the same? Also are you based in WA as I would love to buy one for myself. Thank you
I have a little one growing on the top of mine after it fell over and a chunk of the top came off. The little one is easy to twist right off but I’m not sure i can do that. Also, it’s about 4 inches in length do i have to cut the ends like you did on this one? Thanks!!

Mine normally pup from the sides of the top cut.
I may have to make this one the mother plant and cut the whole thing up and start over.

No, but I do have a photo.
why the bevel?
To indicate which end to place into the potting mix, and to give the cutting more surface area for root formation.
