- If you're a desktop artist looking for a way of hooking up your mixer, effects, synths and modules for fast and flexible turnaround you should check out this desktop audio patchbay called the MINIBAY.
Check out the MINIBAY here: www.dfaudio.com.au/
In the case of normalling/half-normalling as I mention in the video, I'd like to clarify that the DIP-switches makes it possible to individually normal the connections between the patch points in row A and row B. Half-normalling is not possible.

You nailed it. A great tool (portable) for gigging. Otherwise the cable clutter is the reason most "studio" performers would opt for a rack patchbay.
It's definitely made for a live situation, and mostly for gear that uses Eurorack stuff. For them this can be great. For a pro studio setup this won't cut it imo.
Patchbay in desktop format, that is something new and "thinking out of the box" :)
I got one of these recently for my home studio. The main reason I didn't go for a rack-mounted option was that I don't have a rack nor enough rackable gear to make any sense investing in one, nor a spot to put one where it would be so easily reached for experimentation -- this was such an amazing addition to the flow for me; so many effect pedals that I don't need to unplug and re-plug to use on a different synth.
You had some 80´s National Geographic soundtrack going on 🤣
Very excited for your next patchbay video! I should learn how to incorporate synths with preamps DI boxes etc. in a patchbay setup. Cheers
Cheers!
Very pretty tropical retro piece at the intro.. reminds me of the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack from when I was young ❤
I'm digging the tangerine flavored demo piece.
Cheers!
I guess I'm old school. I feel like patchbays should be in racks, so I built a 20U rack on wheels and put it under my desk. :D
I'm with you on that one. ;-)
Great tutorial
Cheers!
Cool video! Hope the work on album goes great!
Thanks! Album is mixed and mastered. Sounds fantastic with my biased ears. ;-)
@@EspenKraft Thats how it should sound! Any releasedate?
I won't go public with any release date until I get the first batch of cassettes in from duplication. Only then can I set a final price. The pri is the physical release first.
That intro was very much Steps Ahead and could easily fit on their Modern Times album! 😂
Never thought of that, but nice to hear! :)
The first track sounds like Sakamoto's Thousand Knives
I h8 patchbays, OCD goes nuts, I have enough trouble with 26 analog into my 2 ADATS and interface.
More wires inc MIDI, power and USB is enough to make me really mad lol.
Very cool idea, but needing a breakout cable for every output on the back is a deal breaker for me
DeSkToP ArTiSt..... like holy way to make this even nerdier.
noooooooooooooo stay a on the dark side Espen rack baby
This seems like a very handy live gig / group play temporary utility box, but if you have a dedicated tabletop space, where would this be preferable to a standard 1U patchbay? maybe for the eurorack 3.5mm crowd?
I think it's made especially for the Eurorack people. ;-)
Can be used with Eurorack, but the 1/4" jacks on the back were incorporated to connect to regular gear. More for people who need a patch bay but don't want to bring a rack into their setup. 3.5 mm cables are more convenient for a lot of people, and it's also handy to have it sit just next to the mixer so you can easily see the routings.
I usually do this for years with a regular cheap Behringer batchbay. Same function nö need to wait for the Desktop Version 🤣🤣🤣but might be useful for some newcomers
[off topic] I recently bought a Roland CP40 "pitch to midi converter", I haven't had the chance to test it yet, but I'm pretty curious about its performance... Have you ever tried that weird Roland's abomination?
No, I never had any need for it really.
Intro sounds like super metroid or sumin, sweet
Cheers!
Are these 6inches cables?
Can't remember. Sold the thing.
A bit pricey. Something like $240
240 Australian dollars, which is around 160 USD (plus shipping)
@@dudfaz that's better.
No, don’t do it!
