- I've been looking for a portable desktop patchbay unit with minijack patching connections for ages. Thankfully, somebody finally went and made one. Here's what I make of it.

I post all of the music I make, including WAV stems; sample packs; Dirtywave M8 song bundles; collections of video textures; early access to videos; and a whole pile of other stuff on Patreon. I know I know, I hate doing this as well, but if you like what I do and want to get more of it, while also helping me offset some of my ludicrous gear purchases, this is the best place to do it:

If you're in the market for new gear, my favourite place to find new and interesting synthesizers and other electronic music gear is Signal Sounds. They are based in Glasgow, but ship all over the place and often have stuff nobody else does. Find them at www.signalsounds.com/

This is a cool device, and then you use it for your video hardware and totally blew my mind! I use an RCA patchbay but still find myself manually rerouting my gear all the time. Thanks for this review!
Hell yeah! Where did you get an RCA patch bay?!
I want one. And yesterday. I have been meaning to talk to an electrical engineer friend about designing such a thang. Now I can leave him in peace. Thank you.
Hell yeah. No point reinventing the wheel.
Tartan Modular. Love it.
:D
Thanks for a bombastic review. Now, I must get one. This is sooo what I’ve been looking for, for a loooong time.
It is pretty great!
😲I didn't know something like this exists and this is really tickling my whiskers! 😁Seems like a perfect for a lil patchbay for a set up like mine, especially for live sets! So cool this will work for your video art set up too man!! 🙌 I'll have to check out DF Audio! 🤘🐀
It's definitely a pretty cool wee switcher box. Loads of inputs and outputs!
I'm about to start producing a very similar desktop patchbay with RCA connectors for analog video setups! Though you might be interested :D
It's 24 patch points, fully normalled, and with two dirty mixers on board!
Here's a pic: drive.google.com/file/d/1kqpuYaIJrYpLrlrzFYhzTOQXM40YfYzq/view?usp=sharing
Oh yeah!? That sounds and looks amazing. We are getting spoiled for choice! I'll need to keep my eye out for one. I already have the Strange Loop :)
I wanna do this for video too
nice! just subbed to your channel to watch for updates.
@@StephenMcLeod :D
This looks super useful, might be a solution to a live setup I'm trying to setup. Plus it matches my Dirtywave M8 's too which is a nice bonus 😃 great vid!
It's about the length and width of two and a half M8s side by side!
on a related note, i recently got an xlr rackmount (1u) and i opened that shit up and cut it in half
now i have ins and outs on my rack, in 1 u hell yeah
Nice one!!
Boredbrain also made the Terminal, which is another mini-patch bay. Good to have more options though.
I've never seen that!
Another one is Boredbrain Patchulator
@@G.Man- I talked about this one!
I see, not watched the full vid yet 😅
@@G.Man- Disgrace!
I’m sure your explanation is perfect for those with some knowledge. I’m a newbie and going to have to watch Jorbs explanation. I’ll be back once I have learnt. Cheers.
Mine is the more basic explanation I think, but Jorb's is more in depth. You'll just need to watch both :D
@@StephenMcLeod yeah I got the general idea and don’t think I need one.
looks really cool. wish i had one when i had lots of hardware.
Did you sell it all?!
KILLDOZER!!!
Hell yeahhh
That jumped out at me too. Haven't thought about them in ages.
Getting this. 110%
It is pretty excellent.
It a brilliant idea! Kudos @dude fuzz
It is!
Cheers JA!
@@dudfaz omg, i slaughtered your name 🤣🤣🤣🤣 soz ❤
Haha must be my accent
@@JohnAlchemy haha, no wuz - you did better than if I were to try yours ;)
Thanks for the review! I'm trying to find how much it weighs but no luck so far, could you tell me?
Hey thanks! I'm traveling ATM so don't have it on me but could check next week. Dudley might be able to tell you though!
Hey Femke, all boxed up for shipping, the units weigh just under 1.4 kg. So, while I've never actually weighed one, I'd say it'd be about 1.25 kg.
@@dudfaz Thanks a lot!
@@femkemostert4339 no probs!
I have the cheap-ass chorus pedal but not the rest you mentioned. Guess I'll have to improvise.
The cheap ass chorus pedal is the best bit
Very fiddly having to unscrew the unit to change the normalling switches though
I guess the logic is that this isn't something you'll change very often, and will want to avoid it getting knocked. If you have to change nornalling on rack mount patch bays it's a pain in the arse
If you often wanted to change the normaling, there's no reason why you couldn't just leave the base removed - pretty easy access then.
Nooo stereo jacks - absolutely pointless.
The compromise would be far fewer channels, or a much bigger device.
2 mono is one stereo. It doesn't not have stereo, it would just be half the inputs/outputs.
