  • As deer hunter we are constantly trying to predict what bucks will do. Whether that is feeding, bedding, chasing does, etc. it is difficult to predict what bucks will do; so we analyzed our data from collared adult bucks to see what activities they are partaking in by time of day, month of year, and stage of the breeding season!

This info is so interesting, I wish someone was doing these same studies on deer farther north.

This series has been very informative for me as a new hunter, but this video specifically has been instrumental in understanding the way a deer thinks. I love science!

I wish you could share the raw data and let folks do their own analyses. I have so many factors I want to look into. Topography, temperature, wind speed, precipitation, cloud cover, moon phase, and habitat features. But sadly sharing that data could put deer at risk of poaching…

You should do a piece on how to decifer and read those graphs.

I would love to see all the tracking data with movement times overlayed with moon phase and moon rise/moon set.

& local wind data, topography/foliage "terrain"
I've been directly walking hip to shoulder for over 20 years with wild deer, this is nice generalized information, as fantastic as it is I don't think one can really get the proper understanding without being present with the animals..I'm saying it is more of a timeline rather than contextual understanding.
It does create an excellent understanding of generalized dimlight/shadow and night exploitation .. bucks will disregard lighting when in testosterone surge..they'll be shuttling throughout areas looking for movements..open crossing, splitting lots, literally a roving patrol..

Can you do a day light vs. nocturnal movement time line.

I just watched eight of these in a row. It is nice to see the graphs, but not much of this is new in reality. The one surprise though is that this says bucks walk LESS at night and bed MORE. HMMM.

What about movement in temperate drops and rises etc. if it’s the rut are they gunna do what they are gunna so regardless of the weather

There is nothing to show. Deer movements are not based on temperature or weather conditions.

Look up your state's rut dates and just adjust his data to match your rut season.

Hunters take it easy on the deer. I worked at a local meat processing company for over three years. I saw one hunter bring in 14 deer carcasses from a weekend of hunting. Leave some for our kids to see and for us to hit with our cars
