The oil capacity for the 2003 Vortec 8.1 is 6.5 quarts.
SAE 5W-30 synthetic oil is recommended.
We change our oil and oil filter every 7,500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.
You can extend Your engine life, get better gas mileage, and have better performance if You change your oil regularly.
Routine oil and filter changes help remove particles and sludge from the engine. If the oil isn't changed, Your vehicle's engine will start to have a lot of problems. Over time the oil will become thinner, abrasive, and will start to wear down on vital engine parts. Synthetic oil is by far better for performance. It protects the engine due to lower levels of friction.
My Motorhome is a 2003 National Dolphin LX model 6320.

Great demo on changing the engine oil for the 8.1L Vortec John! WIX seem to be very good filters, I started using them on my larger 3 ton truck instead of the Fram filters. Have a great weekend! 👍
My friends swear by them... I also found out that NAPA' s 1060 is the same manufacturer as the 51060 WIX. I learned something new!

My workhorse manual says use 15w-40 but you’re recommending 5w-30 which is much lighter. Is this because it’s synthetic? Appreciate the tutorial.
My oil cap shows 5w30.
