  • The U.S. and Taiwan conducted joint navy drills in secret in April, according to a Reuters report. The Philippine coast guard has accused China of trying to build an artificial island near the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea. And Taiwan’s main opposition party has given its verdict on President Tsai Ing-wen’s time in office, urging her successor Lai Ching-te to work to improve cross-strait relations. Also:

    9:17 In Tsai's defense, she dragged her feet to get the 4 months conscription "updated" to longer serve time sooner because of the backlash she was getting from her critics. There are many, too many, amongst the Taiwanese who thinks CHINESE invasion is impossible and having young men spending the prime years of their youths in military training is wasteful. But that was 2016-2020. Things have changed quite a bit since, and China has shown their resolve in taking Taiwan by force, but yes I agree that Tsai should've pushed through with lengthening conscription back in 2017ish instead of worrying about ticking off the haters.
