I expected something goofy, but this here made me realize how the Raimi movies were actually so good, they didn't rely on a single point like soundtrack.

@@kitty.provosteBecause the lack of music when sitting on the church made it feel more depressing and serious, which is the tone it had. This is also what the first movie had in the final fight scene. When Green Goblin was beating Peter, there was no music. Just raw sound effects and grunting. It wasn't until Green Goblin mentioned MJ and made Peter angry enough to get relentless on Norman where the music kicks in. That fight alone is why I think it's my favorite of the Raimi trilogy, even more than the second movie.
I like the grunting noise tobey makes in the original when he jumps of that first clip you can barely hear it cause of the music
He doesn't do it here actually. I took it from a different moment in the trilogy :)

Awesome sound design, I love how much more present it is without the music. When he's at the church and hearing the constant rain I get the feeling he's been meditating or pondering about all of his decisions up there for HOURS, like really reflecting on himself to then decide that he wants to get rid of the symbiote.

I think it still works very well without the music. Especially when he's falling from the church steeple. The calm before the storm of screaming that happens as Peter rids himself of the symbiote only for it to transform Eddie Brock into Venom

Dude, this is so good! I'm saving it as a reference for how to do movie audio correctly in the absence of a soundtrack. It really shows maturity in storytelling when you can let the scene dictate the emotions and not the music.

I rewatched Spider-Man 3 recently and I can’t believe how short the movie is… why do I remember it being longer. He’s in the Black suit for like 3 scenes and that’s it. I loved it as a kid but now I’m like a bit disappointed how short it is
I know, Black suit Spidey deserved to be the star of the film until it’s time to remove it. Plus the plot was good just kinda rushed

Black suit Spiderman had his scenes deleted for being too violent. Remember when Peter shows jj photos of black suit Spiderman putting a crook thru a car windshield? Actually filmed scenes that were cut

Actually, you are right. But when I tried this way, the video was not interesting to me. There would have been no environmental subtleties. It's a choice.
As much as we’re all coming around on Spider-Man 3, I think an instance where it failed was in showing the benefits of the symbiote to Peter beyond a vague sense of it “feeling good”, which I felt would’ve added to the conflict of whether or not to get rid of it
Somehow, getting rid of the music and letting us hear the wind effects makes the black suit seem so much more powerful

I dont understand why this isn't titled "spiderman 3 without music"
This works as a stand-alone scene, but in the middle of a movie you're gonna need at least some music or dialogue or SOMETHING before or after it to keep an audience engaged. This movie wasn't shot or written to be a silent, sound effects driven 2 hours. The scene is supposed to work as part of a WHOLE.

Sam should've used the realistic sounds in the third movie instead of putting in the background music. It gives out more of a quiet and mysterious vibe, along with the black suit at night.
It's amazing how much the sound enhances the imagery - the sense of flying through the air. It's so much more immersive. While music brings out certain emotions, it doesn't take you there and transport you the way sound does. It's a shame how rare it is for sound to be utilized this way in movies.
It's rare for sound to be allowed to soar without interruption or being relegated to a background element. Imagine all the sound designers who work on movies and who design and wrap every scene up in a world of immersive sound, only for music to be added on top and absolutely drown it all out. I watch this video on repeat and I imagine the whole movie just like this.
I would love to see full length fan edits that bring this reimagining of the sound design to the forefront. I'm sure there's an audience for movies without music, because it gives you a new way of appreciating films; your favorites especially.
I think a lot of people will click on this expecting another funny, somewhat Bully-adjacent meme video, but what they'll find here will truly move and inspire them.

A lot of scenes might've benefited from this treatment. I'm not saying no music at all but the intense sound design really makes it feel a lot darker and gritty
I really do wish this movie had a good story to match these incredible visuals but It's so funny how far we come with this movie. Everybody despised it when it first dropped in 2007 I still remember all the slander. But now it's achieved cult status, and I think its because people really dont like how artificial and fake these new superhero movies feel, even the tom holland ones. There was just no swag to his spiderman, Tobey's Spiderman moves with a purpose and swings with as much force as he can.
Also and I think a HUGE factor that make people love and miss Tobey's spiderman was the fact that each movie had a major video game release alongside it. And Tobey did voice acting for EACH game, you don't see that dedication no more.
Truly hope we get a Spiderman 4 especially after seeing Raimi recently talk about it and tease it.

Since I was a kid, I've always thought about this scene, and wonder why we can't see any raindrops falling on Spider-Man. I get so frustrating, it fu*king boils me!

Honestly, sound effects and nothing else is underrated. I feel theres always a pressure to put a score to a scene, and yeah that’s great don’t get me wrong, but sometimes action with accompanying noise is more engaging. Wish it was more common.
This single-handedly makes me want to see a gritty dark knight type spider man movie. It’d be a weird version of the character, but could be super cool

I often question why they don’t release a music-less version alongside the original when releasing movies digitally/physically
Especially since they always have a version without music. Instead the standard practice is to let it sit in a vault forever, and no one ever challenges that standard.

Love a solid sound design. I also love a good score and I think Raimi utilises it well, but nowadays the score is often just there to cover up a barebones sound design job.

lol it just sounds like pre production set noise, the music adds so much to these scenes. Christopher Young did a great job, stayed faithful to Elfmans scores in the previous films, yet wasn't afraid to branch off to some ballsy territory. "Birth of sandman" and "Harry confronts peter" are just amazing tracks. The whole films score is tbh
EDIT: Amazing work though, not trying to discredit this project, I've had to add foley sounds to muted clips of movies last semester in school, tough stuff.

Ngl, I was expecting some sort of cheap meme so I had reservations.
In a way, this strikes me as rather...haunting almost. It sort of laments on Peter's isolation. That it's just him out there.
And now we know he's even more alone in the sense he is legitimately the only superhero in his world. No Avengers, no X-Men.
