    Heads up! You are NOT supposed to screw in the dipstick when checking the oil level. Thank you for the great and informative video!

      No, the service manual says not to.

      What is the proper way? Screwed in or not, and on the kickstand or straight up?

    • @westfletcher9219
      @westfletcher9219 Před 4 lety +22

      Take at least a 10 minute ride to get oil hot. ride.let bike sit for 3 minutes. Hold bike straight up off side stand level like if you were sitting on it . Pull dip stick out and check level . Stick dipstick back in oil fill hole donot screw dipstick in . Pull dipstick out again and check oil level . Presto.

      I did mine yesterday.. the manual procedure is this:
      Warm it up for 3 mins.. set it on kickstand. remove cap, let sit for 3mins, stand it straight up and put dipstick in, do not screw it in, and then check level on stick.. and this actually worked great for me.. because prior to following those steps.. I rode it up and down the street for a few mins and checked with it standing straight up and nothing showed on the stick..I was like wtf?!
      I just wish it had a window like all my past bikes.. the DRZ has a dipstick a couple feet above the engine.. what dumb design.

    Also, to check oil level: Run engine for 3 minutes. Turn off and let sit for 3 minutes. Stand up straight. Don't screw in dipstick and check level.

    Should update your video on the dipstick oil level. You don't screw in the dipstick to check oil level. Thanks for the rest of the videos though appreciate it!

    There's also a drain bolt below the Oil Filter, and another screen in the frame. That screen can get clogged up, so don't forget to check and clean it.

    • @manilaboy1vic
      @manilaboy1vic Před 3 lety +4

      The manual says that is a check bolt.. like if you havent fired your bike up in weeks all the oil drains down. if you loosen the check bolt you can confirm there is oil in it.. what were these guys smoking when they designed this.. ?? it was too much to ask for a window to check oil level.. ??

    I've changed my oil on an xt 250 when I had it.
    When I did,I would take off top oil cap so there was airflow to let oil drain fully.
    Same premise as house vent when you flush toilet.
    I have a 2020 drz know.
    I saw you took oil cap off after oil drained to fill oil back up.
    Would you say taking oil cap off while oil is draining not recommended.
    Just wondering.
    Thanks

    I just saw another video where they cleaned the screen filter, how nessecary is it? I’ve just done an oil change on my 03 dRZ400e, it was missing the inner oil filter seal which I’ve ignored as it’ll still filter oil
    Bit of a learning curve, I knew about the frame sump but didn’t realise it also had a regular sump, I got 2.1L out of it (after realising the other sump) and have put 1.5L in it, just waiting for it to get sucked into the engine so I can top it up again
    Also I got it registered thismorning, so I’m about to go for my first ever legal ride (owned it for 6 years 😅)

      @rmatvmc  Před 4 lety

      We sell an oil change kit that will come with all the necessary crush washers and o-rings. You can check that out here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/tusk-4-stroke-oil-change-kit-p
      If you're looking for just the washers, the sizes you'll need are a 10mm washer (which will use a 12mm socket) and 12mm washer (which will use a 14mm socket). We sell individual Tusk washers that you can get here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/tusk-crush-washer-p
      Lastly, as long as you're using crush washers I wouldn't worry too much about what they're made of.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 5 lety +6

      You can, but after too many uses they can become warped/bent which may result in not giving a good seal and oil leaking. But yes, you can re-use it if needed.

      You can reuse them. You can even smack em with a hammer on flat concrete to flatten them out. You can also rub them in a circular or back and forth movements on sand paper or smooth concrete to smooth out ridges left from the lines on the face of the washer. Lol shadetree mechanic right there boy.
