  • 2008 DRZ400SM with Dynojet Jet Kit. May also work for DRZ400S. I think the DRZ400E uses a different carb so ymmv. I am using a Clymer Repair Manual as a reference.
    ---------------
    ***ERRORS:
    At 5:50, the pilot jet numbers are reversed. It should be: OEM - 22.5, DJ Kit - 25.
    At 11:24, it is the starter (choke) jet, NOT the pilot mixture screw.
    ---------------
    When I bought the bike, it sat for a couple of years and was sparingly used monthly. It was running lean, needed the throttle cracked open slightly or it would die, and was backfiring a lot on deceleration. Took apart the carb to clean it and found that the pilot jet was clogged. Hope this can help out others.

    Blimey ! I've got one of these and i can't believe you have to go to soooo much trouble just to remove a carb.
    Kinda makes me yearn for a Suzuki TS 185 again. So much simpler.

    Yeah, any footage of tuning the fuel screw and idle adjustment screw would be appreciated. I messed around with the idle screw a bit but without knowing how fast it's supposed to idle, I might as well just piss into the wind. =)

    Yamaha Raptor petcock and then cap off the vacuum line on the bike? Is it a drop in fit?

    Does anybody know what that useless hose to the right off the choke is called or what its for?

  • @davetechme
    @davetechme  Před 10 lety

    Mine does that. It's pretty annoying. I think it does that because the exhaust packing is low.

    Is it absolutely necessary to disassemble the entire carb just to access the piolet jet?

  • @davetechme
    @davetechme  Před 11 lety

    It's not so bad. Worst part is removing the carb from the rubber boots. It's a little tricky but more than doable.

      Not all E models. All E models in the US. In some other markets, the E model still (2019) comes with the Keihin FCR39.

      vag ina it’s bad for the engine but you can hit the kill switch while driving down the road and quick turn it back on. And it will give you a good pop

    Im thinking of taking mine off this weekend and checking the pilot jet as all of a sudden its lost lots of acceleration! Starts and runs fine on idle but no power over 40mph+ could it being blocked up be my problem??

      I have the same problem! And am thinking the same. Did you get to the bottom of it?

    • @Super690Motard
      @Super690Motard Před 10 lety

      The way i fixed it was by doing nothing, apart from using it! let the engine warm up and go for a small 15 min spin then pull up somewhere deserted and red line it once or twice then continue riding, after a few miles mine cleared itself!

      Clymer DRZ-400SM service manual which costs around $30. It's adequate for minor things but for major stuff I'd spend the $70 on the OEM Suzuki service manual which is far more detailed and thorough.

      The trick is to use a wrench on the rubber boot connecting the carb to the airbox (rear boot). Press the wrench in towards the side of the boot and then press towards the rear (press hard!). Have someone hold the bike for you so it doesn't roll or tip over. By doing this you relieve most if the tension from the boots that are holding the carb in place.

    • @thegroeller5977
      @thegroeller5977 Před 3 lety

      Remove the pair of ten mm bolts on the rectifier and sit it to the side. I used the handle of a long wrench to pry the air box boot back while using the vertical subframe as a fulcrum. Also make sure to connect and disconnect your throttle cables BEFORE getting your rubber boots where you want them.
