    Great Video - Just bought a super clean 03 KLX400, but it ran terrible - wouldn't idle - I had trouble finding information on the "Coast Enriching" circuit - and that was my main issue - Did pretty much everything you did hear, and my bike is running 100% better - Thanks.

    I have too many things to say on this one... first of all, 5% increase in HP?! Yes please! When you removed that big chunk of the Carb I only pooped my pants a little... I figure you know exactly what's going on so I have some pretty sturdy trust in you. I'm sorry there are all these problems popping up. I'm glad its in good hands!

    You can do it!!! I wouldn't waste the money on a spare bike if it were me, I would just read the manual well, read what you can on the internet, and take you time. If your not sure what to do, ask around, and you'll find that it's not near as bad as you thought it would be. You'd do great!

    It does sound like needle adjustment to me too. Without being able to see, hear, and or feel what is going on (it's hard to interpret a description of sputtering) it's hard to say what direction to go. Start by dropping the needle 2 clip positions, and see if it gets better or worse. If the "sputtering" is worse, then go the other direction by raising it the 2 notches you went down, and then plus one, then re-assess it.

    Many air boxes are Tuned. I had a 1986 Moto Morini 501 Camel. V twin. I removed the tuned cones and reverse cones in the air box and the bike wouldn't run. I had to increase the main jet by 2-3 and raise the needle. A little more HP and still got 50mpg+/-

    It's been suggested that soaking a KLR 650 carb in Pine Sol overnight (the metal parts only) after disassembly is an environmentally friendly but still effective way to clean it. Ever heard of that one please? You guys are great for doing this for eveRide!!! I hope to have friends like the two of you one day. Thanks!

    Gday I’m about to install an FCR39 on my 2017SM. I got the carb from a 2017 E. I have rebuilt the carb all except the mid body as I didn’t have the courage to seperate the gasket cement that adheres the mid body to the top of the carb. I’m ready to go. Your videos are good and I’ll be referencing them along the way.
    I’m not experienced at this at all and tuning the carb will be the next adventure once I get it installed.

      If I come across another one to do, Ill definitely pull it all the way down. The mid body disassembly and rebuild is a real PITA and has to be perfect or it will leak and drive one crazy trying to tune it. I do them all the time, but have been nervous to show ithers how to do it....

      +james wilson hey buddy! actually, we ran the stock pilot jet, and it has worked good. As we go up in elevation, carbs run more rich, so if anything, you would go down a size. I think you would be happy to leave the stock pilot jet in, especially if you go down south to ride where the elevation is lower, then use the recommended needle and main jet from the dyno jet kit. well done bud!!

    Just saw this video as I need to address a carb issue with my 2004 DRZ-400E. I am running a pro-circuit muffler/exhaust, have done the 3X3 mod and have a dynojet kit installed. The problem is, I am now in Houston which has no elevation and the bike won't run unless I have the choke on (or, it does not run at all). When the dynojet kit was install (TRE in Simi Valley, CA) I was at a different elevation and used to ride in the high desert. I then moved to the Reno area and had no issues either. What is the right combination jetting wise to run here in Houston Texas?

    • @MrDuhfactor
      @MrDuhfactor  Před 4 lety

      Im not sure bud, I use a dyno with a sniffer to get the jetting right.... if it only runs with the choke on, then your too lean... you need to upsize your pilot and main jet, as well as raise your needle (drop the clip position 1-2 clips).

  • @AlessandroNogueiraVideomaker

    MDF, I have a 2005 DRZ 400S, unmoded. It sounds like doing the 3x3 mod without also doing a jet kit would be futile. I'm in Sacramento, so near the Sierra foothills and higher elevations. Wondering what jets to install given the wide range of elevations likely to be encountered. Thanks for your advice.

    • @MrDuhfactor
      @MrDuhfactor  Před 9 lety

      Well, doing the 3X3 mod without jetting still may yield some benefit, although small. If you open up the airbox, and exhaust, you'll want to work with jetting to maximize its fuel efficiency and power. Always jet for the lowest elevation you ride in, then it will richen as you climb in elevation for mountain riding, which is still safe. The DRZ can handle a large range in elevation and still run great. We've had EveRides bike from 3000ft up to 10K+ and only dropped the needle one notch from our starting point for it to run excellent in that wide of an elevation envelope.

    • @osimnod
      @osimnod Před 9 lety

      MrDuhfactor Thanks for the prompt response! So, the stock jets appear to be set for some range of elevation, since the manufacturer doesn't know where a bike will be ridden once it leaves the factory. Also, I have a stock exhaust but would entertain modifying that while doing the 3x3 and jet kit. Any suggestions along the lines of muffler/header? I have enjoyed your videos as they are very informative and entertaining. Am a noobie to DS.

    • @MrDuhfactor
      @MrDuhfactor  Před 9 lety

      from a carburetor stand point, I would say just take the appropriate Allen wrenches and screw driver to get your carb top off and change needle clip position. if your bike runs good at lower elevations, you might be surprised that it still runs decent that high up. if the needle is on the rich side, as you climb, the bike will start to sputter, be hard to start, and lose power. drop the needle one clip, and it will run like a champ. good luck!

      Fred O'Reardon Hi Fred,
      Im not sure if 2006 parts fit a 2001, it has been a long time since Ive worked on a DRZ. I would recommend that you contact the supplier for each of the parts you have that are in question, and ask them if their part will fit your application. I know that most of the parts do interchange, but cant be sure if everything interchanges. Also, I dont sell parts for DRZ's, but know a contact who does..If you are interested in getting that contact info, email me at MrDuhfactor at gee mail dot com.
