  • Part 2 of the Suzuki DR-Z400 repair. Initially, we thought it ran like crap, then it wouldn't run at all. So, did we fix it? Yes? No? Maybe?
As of publishing date, this bike is still for sale, contact me motoresto@gmail.com to be put in contact with the owner if you're interested in buying it.

Looking good. On another channel I heard a youtuber say one trick with these carbs, since they are a pain to remove, is to loosen the clamps then simply rotate it. Might have to remove a hose or two, maybe the cables, but it can save time if it's a quick jet change or something else that doesn't require complete disassembly.

I sorta liked your special tool for adjusting but I didn't like how you had to fumble around to find the slot still. Wanted to share that Many years ago I bought a longer screw with a thumb knurl knob at the end. That Makes mixture as easy to adjust as the idle speed nearby. I marked both of mine with a black etch so I can visually see every partial turn with my eyes when adjusting... That's key for me. I jetted mine and I having the ability to so quickly adjust and compare different settings is awesome. I run a little richer because I like the popping Lol

My 23 model sat for a few months and same exact issue as your customer. Going to pull the carb and clean tomorrow. Would you go larger than a 25 on the pilot since you are over 3 turns out ?

They’re jetted really lean for EPA standards, I’m not sure if it’d help unless you’ve changed the air intake and exhaust. Maybe one step up wouldn’t hurt.

The special tool for the idle speed screw, did you make or buy it?

Hi Moto Resto. Loving the channel here in UK. I own a '99 ZZR (ZX) 1100. Can i ask where you get your workshop manual info from? Is it an internet site? Thanks

Thank you. Yes, I use the Google Machine. That steers me to sometimes a variety of sites, some free some paid and download a manual. Some I purchase in hard-copy, usually a Clymer or Haynes manual. Can't say one particular place, but a forum on your make/model may have guys who have posted links to one. Please consider subscribing. Thanks again for the kind words and the question.

Addendum: I recently got one from www.servicemanualwarehouse.com which I couldn't find anywhere else, digital download and very reasonable price, PayPal so it's secure, you may want to check them out.

I don't remember that detail, this is a fairly old video. Just get yourself a service manual, they can generally be found for free online, it'll tell you in there.
