  • Welcome to JustTenMoreMinutes aka JTMM aka The Freakin 10! I want to watch this history so badly now. To hear someone that fought in multiple armies and be that top of the class and earn this recognition is fascinating. Great lyrics, great music, harmonies, and story!!!
Sabaton 101 needs to be added to all schools!

A really nice song! And the history behind this person is awesome. But you need to watch 3 chapters in sabaton history about this. They put one chapter for every army he join.
I love Joakim voice, no matter the song he made changes in the rythm but always its a hit.

The story of Lauri Allan Törni is incredible. He fought, and he fought well. The first two armies he joined for the defence of Finland and to break the hold Russia had on Finland. The 3rd ? Well he needed to get the pappers for staying in the US. He got highly decorated from all 3 armies and the men serving under him was proud to do so.
    Edit....
His grave can be found at Arlington.

Joakim has, pretty often, talked about how the "Sabaton choir" sound is somewhat reminescent of "Lutheran church hymns". I like the end result, but I have no clue when he starts to talk about arranging the music and the vocals.
What I do know, is that the classic "Sabaton sound" was something Joakim came up with.
The "Sabaton choir", since the 2005 album "Primo Victoria" (first album released, though not the first music they ever recorded), is done basically the same "all in the family" way to this day.
The female choir is 5 "local ladies" from Falun:
Joakim's old swimming coach (when he was like 12), Pär's old sciense teacher ("high school"), their old drummers (Daniel Mullback) mom and aunt and one of their choir friends.
The male choir is either: 1) a local band (/friends) called "Eternal of Sweden", according to Joakim some of those guys have "huge voices".
    2) or they just use Joakim and the rest of the guys. Joakim has talked about how he sings differently and "backs down" when he is doing the choir parts in the albums as opposed to when he does the lead vocals. Obviously the bandmembers have changed over time and some are better singers than the others and were therefore used more.
Except "Christmas Truce", that one has a Italian gospel choir and was recorded separately.
+ I don't know the deal on the orchestral companion albums "The Soundtrack To The Great War" (2019) and "The Symphony To End All Wars" (2022). Floor Jansen sings on some songs on both albums, but there are other singers too.
btw. It's possible Floor may have joined the female choir on some other album stuff after she and Hannes got married, but I haven't seen actual evidence for that (aside from the Orchestral albums).

Good news - the history on this song is amazing.
Bad news - it's across 3 sabaton history episodes 😄, so you better have an hour or so free for that tomorrow 😉.

The next song should be White death. It is about another Finish soldier that became legend. (Litttle spoiler you know that someone is real bada$$ when enemy sends artillery barrage on position he might be at). Mannerheim cros - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mannerheim_Cross ; Iron Cross - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Cross ; rest of medals mentioned are US awards.

Thörni is the finnish word for thorn, and Lauri sounds very much like Larry...
So Larry Thorn is an anglicized version of Lauri Thörni. :)

I try lol. I joke I can barely speak English sometimes so I get anything non english and my brain goes.....oh boy you're gonna mess it up lol. All joking aside I do try and listen closely to the pronounciations as they say it in the songs and while I don't always catch it while also listening to the rest of the lyrics I do try.
