Creating Transparent Video Overlays in LumaFusion

  • [For LumaFusion on Android and iOS] If you’ve ever found yourself running out of layers on the timeline, making complex graphic overlays with no extra room for other content, this week’s video from the LumaTouch Academy is going to save you time, and stress - and build up your creativity!
    Exporting your video using the codec ‘HEVC with transparency’ will enable you to create your own beautifully branded video overlays that you can use time and time again - without having to worry about maxing out your layers or repeating your edits.

    Nice solution. I fiddled around with green screen which did work but this is a lot cleaner!

    I've just got lumafusion. These tutorials are great, but it's still a bit hit and miss. Many of the ones I need are on older versions. Like blurring out parts of a video.
    But thanks for this, I'm going to practice making a bunch or transparent titles and icons etc to add to a personal asset library of sorts.

    This is fantastic, a game changer...but not available on Android yet. When will this feature be coming to that OS?

      Thanks--we're excited about it too. Unfortunately we aren't yet able to offer it on the Android/ChromeOS devices. We are working on it, but I sure couldn't say when we might be able to put it into a release version. ASAP, is the best answer.

    I did everything you said, but when I drop on top of another clip it still has the black background even after rendering it out with HEVC with Transparency

    I’m working on version 4.1.3 on my iPad and I don’t have the option to export as HEVC with transparency?? Not sure why or how to troubleshoot, any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    I tried to create a stinger animation with transparent background. But OBS takes it as a black background, no transparency.

    I discovered an issue with this. When importing the video into Lumafusions own 'imported' section, it looses its transparency.

      What you're trying should work. LumaFusion only supports videos with alpha that are HEVC with alpha in a Quicktime movie container (.mov). Please contact our support team so we can help figure out what the problem is. support@luma-touch.com

      You can get a paid subscription to Storyblocks through LumaFusion, where you will have access to royalty free music. Otherwise, there are a few free sample songs that are available.

    After creating how do you get it to be smaller as a package

      Hi there, the best way to export a video with a smaller file size is to select one of the lower quality bitrate settings in the Export panel. If you're looking to archive a smaller project package, you'll want to select the "Trimmed Media" option at the Project Package export step.
