  • Here's my 4 minutes of Super 8 footage from that evening.
Thanks to Ernie Klein for providing some audio (Baba O'Riley) from the same night for me to add. It's not synced, but it has it's moments. What a night that was!
Posted with written permission from Roger, still waiting to hear from Pete.

During THE WHO tour of 1976, sound engineers were getting decibal readings at 50 yards of 120 decibals.
It's like standing directly behind a BOEING 747 on take-off.
All of the PA horns were stacked up on either side of the stage as 20 feet high and 30 feet wide.
Bands were boasting 50,000 watts at that time.
Now, they hang PA on the light rigs, which is much more efficient.
Most cities will not allow a band to play any higher than 100 decibels.
The difference between 100 db and 120 db is a lot of volume.
It's like the difference between a loud conversation and a jet.
When you went to a show in the 70s, your ears were ringing by the time you went home.

Amazing! I went to many shows at McNichols before they tore it down. I was only 11 in 1976, but saw the Who at Folsom in '89. Fantastic show

I saw them in December 1975 so it was the same tour. Fantastic group at the time. I saw them a few more times after Moon died and it did not seem as great anymore. I still love the records up til 1978 album.

I've seen them 4 more times since then, '96, '00, '07, and '22. Of course, nothing was like this this show, when it was still raw '70s 4-man rock. Over the years, they've all been different productions, but I haven't been disappointed yet.

    I was there! 😮
The Who walked off stage, because on one of Roger Daltry’s microphone-throws, he missed catching it, and it hit the stage with a humongous-thump. The crowd thought it was hilarious and started laughing.
After some time and bitching the crowd out, they came back and finished the show…

    • @sebrit100
      @sebrit100  Před rokem +1

I didn't know it was his mic. I thought someone threw something onstage and pissed them off. I seem to recall that everyone left the stage, but Keith Moon came back out and entertained us with comments until the rest of the band returned.

@@luishernndez8367 It's interesting that he made sure to shave for both his only performances in 77 and 78. Here's something you might already know. If you look at the band in both 77/78 you'll notice the band are all wearing the same outfits, accept Keith. He was supposed to wear the sparkly purple outfit, but he'd gained too much weight, so he's the only one dressed in something different. The reason was continuity for both shows, which could no longer be done after he showed up in something different. The more you know!

Ha ha! I WISH we had iPhone video back then!
I had a Super 8 camera that I would tuck under my binoculars in a case I brought in to concerts. Sometimes (like this evening) security wouldn't look past the binoculars. Sometimes they'd take out the binoculars, and make me take the camera back to the car.
