- These are Crocs. And a lot of people think they’re really ugly. People who love to hate Crocs had cause to celebrate in 2008, when investors were writing the company off as a passing fad. Crocs lost over $185 million that year and cut 2,000 jobs. The stock plunged to just over $1 a share from a high of about $69 a year earlier.
But over the next decade, Crocs would go on to sell 700 million pairs of shoes worldwide. Recently, the clogs have have been strutting down runways at luxury fashion shows. Celebrities like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Post Malone are wearing the shoes. It’s a top brand among Gen Z. And limited edition Crocs are selling for up to $1,000 on the resale market. Crocs have become... a collector’s item.

Most American media tends to do this. They're talking to an audience with a 12-second attention span, and are frequently interrupted by add breaks so they need to "update new viewers". They also have a tendency to dramatize everything. Makes it very difficult to sit through their documentaries.
The testimonials from people and experts added nothing and was a huge waste of time.

That’s exactly what my 12 year old son said lol. He’s been asking me for a while not to buy him any. But of course I didn’t listen. When I bought myself a new pair, I bought him a pair as well. They sat in his room for 2 days before he finally tried them on. Now he wants to wear them daily to school. He literally told my husband just yesterday, “I get it now!” My son hates sneakers and really loves summer because he lives in sandals.
I mean, sure, they're pretty nice for gardening and stuff, but I wouldn't exactly call them "shoes"...

Y’all didn’t even mention at the end how they have been supporting health care workers by giving out free pairs of crocs every day since the pandemic started! A lot of my coworkers have been so excited when they won a free pair! We all come in to work and ask each other if we have signed up for the free pair yet. Haha it’s crazy, but it’s a cool thing they are doing!

Im a nurse, I started wearing crocs even before I graduated. I switched to sneakers for a while because of back pain but since coronavirus I went back to my crocs because its easy to bleach/clean after work.

I live in South East Asia where we always have typhoons during monsoon season. Initially I balked at the though of wearing anything that ugly. But then someone gave a pair to me as a gift, and they were put to test during monsoon season. Imagine not being afraid of ruining your shoes when it rains hard. Flood? I can walk home thank you very much. Just wash and rinse and they are good to go.

Same here, in SE Asian tropical countries, the anti slip Soles come in handy through Rain, puddles, and potholes (yes they protect my foot when I accidentally step on watery potholes because of flood) who knows what kind of Nails or Sharp objects in there... Became a fan for life!

Crocs also makes sandals and flips flops that are comfortable. If clogs aren’t your style, there’s plenty of different options to choose from.

Imagine a shoe that was known the ugliest turned out to be the fashionable footwear now? I'm happy for the Crocs success they proved that before judging a book by it's cover try to read and know it's content first.. it's not just the look but it's the comfort does the Crocs give to your feet

Bought a Crocs back in 2012 and I still use it sometimes. It's very durable.
As a person with high arches and wide feet I LOVE crocs. I could never wear birkenstocks or other sandals because they were so painful!

I believe bircks have a break in period for the cork sole to mould into your foot shape in order to provide comfort. Crocs take the cake for footwear that's easy to clean and comfortable off the shelf in my opinion though.
3 reasons i'm still using Crocs:
Comfortable (for simple walk)
Durable( my 6 years old Crocs still doing fine)
Unique ( some people might think it is ugly but at least it looks different than others so that's why it's unique)
Never liked crocs until I bought a pair and they’ve actually been helping my 10+ year painful foot problem that nothing else has seemed to help much with. The most comfortable things ever, I don’t even care how they look. The bumps on the insoles also seem to help with circulation. Crazy but they’re working for me, wish I knew sooner lol

Bought a pair two months ago and love them! Always thought they were ugly and changed my mind after seeing them being worn by students and staff at my school. I am a middle school teacher and they are so comfortable. I now own two pair and buying my third and fourth pair today. They are amazing!

They have nice colors, but the main croc clog design they are showing in this video is still ugly and overpriced. I believe it is just a popular trend.

If they could design a slim croc that isn't so bulky and clog like, more like a vans slip on I would consider giving crocs a try but as they stand i cant, and for that reason I'm out.
Yeah. I remember when I was little having ones that looked slightly like ballet flats that were really cute (with a lot of holes for the charms), but it seems like they discontinued those ones. 😕The clogs are really ugly.

They are a staple footwear especially in SE Asian countries where the weather is too hot for normal sneakers and crocs provide a perfect balance of closed 'slippers'. Easy to put on and easy to take off.

I've seen crocs the first time in hospitals during our clinical rotations, specially in OR. This was back in early 2000. Now, it's mostly Dansko's, HOKA and BROOKS. 😄

The pandemic is what encouraged me to get my first 4 pairs of crocs and I'm absolutely obsessed with them now! I didn't think much about them before, and didn't think they'd work well with my feet as they are quite narrow, but they fit very well and are super comfortable. I didn't get the classic crocs tho as they have other variations which are more stylish IMO!

I just started a job at a crocs distribution center and somehow this video shows up in my feed.
I think with the reach that Make It has, it would be amazing to start seeing some messages about sustainability given how the world is trending that way.
With how many people *may* want to buy Crocs after this (I'm also curious to try them), and knowing that their materials aren't biodegradable or able to be recycled with other plastics, I think it would have been cool to see a quick note about how Crocs accepts lightly worn shoes, cleans them, and sends them around the world to those who are in need.
Obviously I'm a huge fan of your videos, and this suggestion is more for the larger Make It team and anyone doing content creation around consumer products!
The more we can get messages of environmentally friendly practices into content that gets millions of eyes on it, the better for the planet :)

These shoes existed before the launch of Crocs. I wore a version of this shoe in the mid to late 90's when I was a sous chef. The only difference is that it didn't have a strap in the back and it didn't have holes across the top of the shoe.
Crocs are actually popular in the tkd community around me because it's so comfy especially after a hard training session

I had a bunch of croc like shoes when I was little and never knew people thought they were ugly😂 I have genuinely liked them and still don't mind them now but I am not gonna pay 40 bucks for a pair. You will catch me getting them from ross or buying from other brands that make similar shoes. They are the best home shoe!
the reason why the business goes up than down is because when people buy them they last forever nobody has a reason to get a new pair, so the company has to wait for a whole new group of generation to pick them back up again and the cycle continues.

I seem to remember the classic was selling for like $25 a pair retail back in mid-2000s. My favorite Off Road model was $40. Now basic classics are $50 and specialty models are $65. The Jibbitz were like $1.99 and now they are $5 each. I still love Crocs and buy them, and cheer on their popular collabs, but as a company they've just gotten too greedy, imo.

I am a physician and I use the boots not only because they are confortable but also because they are stain resistant and waterproof. And classic style are a must inside surgery rooms.
