- Box art, posters, marketing material in general, they say something about the intentions and emphasis of a work. Today we study what Nintendo decided to highlight in the Super Mario Box Arts, specifically which characters are the most important in the series.

#Mario - Hry
The official stance of CMeeCraft Gaming is that fake blocks from Super Mario 3D Land are mere objects unworthy of being counted as a character. However, IF you were to consider them as a character, they'd have 1 appearance giving them a tie for 28th most appearances. Their weighted score would be 0.95 placing them between Co-star Luma and Plessie.
If you do another one of these videos, I was initially thinking the Zelda series since it’s the logical next step considering your channel, but I realize a lot of the box art from older games don’t feature much, so my thinking is that Sonic should be the next logical step. Though I don’t think I’ve seen you play Sonic.
@@YoloYester94 he could do the Kirby franchise because the box art of those games shows a lot, including characters
What are you talking about, invisible blocks are on All the covers
@@Ch1mpens fake blocks are the guys that look like blocks with eyes. Invisible blocks are... Invisible.
George Michael Bluth would be disappointed at your dismissal of the fake block.
Normal fish is now officially more important than Peach
And now the real question: which is more ecologically important, fish or peaches?
@@StarshadowMelody i mean, the creatures that roam the ENTIRE ocean (and are a very important part of the food chain) or a singular type of sweet fruit, obviously its the fish
Guys let's give him a break!!!
The fake brick block was just too difficult to find, it's its entire job after all.
The camouflage was too strong. (Also I've never played 3D Land so I didn't realize a block based enemy was a thing 😅)
@@CMeeCraftGaming It was a game I played religiously as a child, was so bummed out when I lost the cartridge, I feel it still holds up today, and it's sad it's not really talked about.
But yeah I understand, I mean, the hills have eyes but they're not enemies, so I get what you mean!
@@Gemarald"as a child"? How old are you? How old am I!?
@@blau6832 bro 3D Land was released 13 years ago
Literally never even noticed the words on the sunshine box
I’ve never noticed the Boo on the M64 box art 😭
ive seen it multiple times, again and again, heck i even have the box at home... but i swear, that ive never ever noticed those words lmao
Everyone’s talking about him missing the fake block but no one’s talking about him missing the saw on the SMG2 box, or the fork person from that one kingdom in Mario Odyssey
This exactly!
To be fair, normal fish saved marios life at least 20 times so the recognition is deserved
Huh? When?
What even?
@@TyGuy2462cmon you know what fish do
@@moosesues8887 They swim?
I am so surprised that Daisy and Peach have the same number of appearances.
5:52 I can't believe you would blatantly ignore the appearance of iconic mario enemy "fake block", clearly distinguishable by its open eyes
wait where is it i cant see it
@@NoobyTheGamer above the "o" from "mario"
@@moodle6500 They were making a joke about it being camouflaged
@@gferrol118 I see, it is not always easy to spot sarcasm in text
Real human arm got robbed of a spot on the list
What's funny is that there's a zoomed outversion of the 3d World artwork, and Bowser is JUST out of view from the box.
It's amazing how Bowser is literally only on the Mario Maker art
Can't spoil who the villain is on the box art.😉
Bowser's fury literally exists (and cmeecraft forgot about it)
@@Queen_Of_Discord He said at the beginning that he's excluding remakes and re-releases. He probably counted Bowsers Fury as a re-release since it can only be played from the 3d world port on switch
Doesn't the Japanese art of SMB1 have him
I wonder how different the scores would have been if the Japanese box art was use, for example, the Japanese box art of Super Mario Bros. has Peach, Bowser, two Toads, and 9 different enemies.
The fact that Daisy appeared on a non-rerelease box art but Wario didn't.
I've been a big fam of Nornal Fish since their first appearance. I am so glad they got the recognition they deserve.
I wonder what a ranking based on the size they appear on the box art would look like.. Like, adding up the total pixel count of each character
can’t believe you didn’t count invisible bowser. he shows up 274 times, he’s just really hard to see
the text on the sunshine box art is both practically unreadable and genuinely incomprehensible
6:32 technically it's only 2 Mario's but I guess it works
What about the 3D Land fake block? Note the eyes on one of the blocks.
It’s crazy how closely you analyze the box art, even reference places in game for some of them!
Wait! Blud gave them a weighted GPA lmao!!
2:53 I guess I'm not part of the history of mankind, because I actually did read that when I got the game lol.
You will be erased in 5 business days
@@lucas_br9592 NOOOOOOOOO--
Yesss I love these random super specific Mario statistic videos
Can't believe you would do my boy Block With Face so dirty like that in the 3D Land box art
I can’t get over “normal fish” im dying here 💀💀💀
Another way to count them would be once per box art they appear in as that should give more weight to unique characters and reduce the weight of things like a swarm of generic fish or generic Mario enemies
What do you mean? Normal fish clearly are very important and deserve a lot of weight
7:12 PAN BRO NOT HAMMER BRO
Luigi: Had to wait 30 years after his first game appearance to be on a box art.
Yoshi: Be on the box art of his first game appearance.
Nintendo clearly being Luigiphobic during many years.
Just you wait, next game those pigeons are gonna be the main partner saving mario from countless dangers.
There are more octoombas on Mario mod art than Luigi 😂
I appreciate the effort that went in to finding this data and making this video. I would like to see the addition of the spines and back of the boxes and covers from other regions included (only alternative versions/no duplicates).
Baby Mario is treated as another character in things like Mario Kart.
Well, akshually, koopas are different from paratroopash 🤓👆🏻
Koopas are just post-stomp paratroopas
I love the way this guy pronounces Pompon Flower
The fact that there’s a chance that with a recount normal fish might be more important than Luigi
7:53 also a volbonan you missed as well
6:33 the faded marios are NOT marios. they're used to indicate motion, and aren't alive.
loved how you spelled "pranha plant."
Ah yes my favorite mario character, normal fish
I have seen only one other video mention the Sunshine words. It didn't have many views, so it makes sense why no one else found it.
Octoomba fans eating good today
8:16 You turn into a goomba in SMB Wonder by touching certain wonder flowers, not by taking the body of an existing goomba like you do in SM Odyssey. Therefore, I don't think the SMB Wonder goomba should be counted.
Great, now go over the Japanese box arts next. The Japanese boxart for Super Mario Bros 1, for instance, is actually very different with _loads_ of characters (but still no Luigi).
2:18 i think you would only refer to something being younger or baby if the older version came first and vice versa
like old man logan, or young sheldon, OR baby mario
Zelda would be the obvious place to go next.
An alternate weighting algorithm might be using prominance on the boxart in terms of size and location (...There are two approaches you could take for location - serious analysis involving action lines, rule of thirds, etc, i.e. doing proper analysis of the framing - or emulate the Pokemon Snap algorithm and go strictly by how close to the center the character is. I think both would be pretty funny in basically opposite ways)
6:45 you missed the Maker.
wouldnt 3d land's block with eyes count as an enemy?
I do not understand your maths at all, but this was highly enjoyable to watch, thank you cm
So happy to see normal fish finally getting the recognition they deserve!
I LOVE normal fish!
I knew noko bombette was more important that bowser, people kept saying i was wrong
We all knew it in our hearts to be true.
in other words: Nintendo cares about side character and not Mr Video Game Himself
4:46 if the colored roads are different then the colored yoshis are also different
I cannot believe Bowser is lower than normal fish 💀
5:58
you missed the Brick Block Mimic! (I do not know their official name) but it is an enemy that shows up in 3d land
you can tell what it is since the brick block there has eyes
Surprised that the size of the character on the box art for each instance wasn't taken into account (or at least wasn't mentioned in the rankings)
Awesome video man! I might be wrong but I think on the Super Mario Galaxy 2 boxart you might've missed that spiky plant enemy on the same island you spotted a piranha plant.
I think it's worth noting that despite the fact that he's wearing a blue cap, Toad in Super Mario 3D World is actually Toad, like, the character named 'Toad'. He just decided to wear blue that day, but it's not the same character as Blue Toad from the New Soup games.
what is nintendo's obsession with putting goombas coming out of pipes
Seriously. They don't even do that that often in the actual games.
This video is extremely important.
I swear you got a salemen voice, like a sell ice to my in the north pole kind. Keep up the great work love the content
Objection: Counting the swarm of fish as 46 appearances would be like counting both Mario and Luigi as the same character because they're both human. Instead, each of the ~46 fish should have counted as one appearance and had their own spot on the ranking.
Managed to name all the Mario land enemies
But couldn't even say Bucken Berry and Ala Gold
Well, those aren't their official names after all
@@radioactivevolt
That's what the dev team named them
It's like saying the Jaws shark isn't named Bruce because it wasn't technically said
@@CiderVG Actually that was a hoax, there's no actual proof of the NSMBW devs calling the Toads BB and AG. Tho they're cool names so I headcanon it's their actual names anyway lol but yeah it was just a fake rumor started by a baseless article
Random trivia: Nep-Enut spelled backwards is Tune-Pen.
05:45 Mario and a goomba, good... but you missed the block enemy!
Nice video! I feel like the next in the series is obvious; Mario again, but this time looking at the Japanese box art. How do they compare!? (Then you could move on to the European art for fun.)
I think instead of giving a bonus for appearing earlier in time, I would give a bonus for how much of the physical box they covered and possibly for appearing on boxes with fewer other characters.
Uh, my guy, a pan bro is counted as separate from hammer bros and paratroopas are not koopa troopas
it's all fun and games til bro goes full pseudo-logarithmic
You… missed a Volbonian on Odyssey’s box art
I find this ranking ridiculously absurd, and thats why i love it lol
Me: thinking mario will take the cake
Also me: Seeing the 36 fish on the Mario Odyssey box 😰
Very enjoyable, underated
It'd be cool to see a video like this with the legend of zelda's box art :)
New Super Roughly 36 Normal Fish U was a high point of the series
3:38 that bunny is master luma
Why not count power ups? They have eyes
Im not entirely sure if im misremembering things, but im pretty sure that theres an extended version of the SMG2 box art.
3:09 I’ve never noticed this
5:48 I don’t know if it counts but I see a block with eyes. As a possible enemy.
At least for the earlier titles, the Japanese box arts are important to factor in, maybe in an addendum. The style of Land 1 and Land 2 also appear in the other mainline Mario games from around that time.
Was not expecting Robophobia for this video. Of course F.L.U.D.D. counts! It's a character!
5:54 if you look closely, there’s an evil box (dunno the name) near the right. Technically an enemy
I wonder what the weighted would be if you just combined all of the toads. You combined all of the yoshi's anyway.
You forgot the evil block on Super Mario 3D land’s box art!
This is really impressive
Really fun video, do Zelda next
Uhhhh... Hey CMee, I guess you were wrong about the words on Sunshine's box. I did actually read those when I bought the game XD
You misspelled Lubba in the spreadsheet.
ah yes, the most important mario character: fish
I feel like size on the box art should have also been weighted into the scores.
Normal Fish is my new favorite mario character haha yes.
Do Kirby next
My favorite Mario character: Normal Fish
Normal Fish is my favorite Mario Bros character
Sprinkle water in the sunshine
I feel like this isn't truly comprehensive. We need to know the stats for the back covers and instruction manuals too
I think they should be weighted also by the size/how much space they take up on the box art. Because normal fish should obviously not be top 5 lol
Lore of The Most Important Mario Characters (According to the Box Art) momentum 100
You should have counted the spin offs. To have a ranking from the whole franchise
How about your make the video? Ain't no way you're expecting anyone to make a video of so many games
"Pranha Plant "
