    As a member of the "Manes" and a barber, I am so glad that you corrected SLS. Somewhere someone said this was horrible, but once a week is a great reset button. So many people vilify sulfates because somewhere someone told them that this is a horrible thing to do for your hair. I would not use it every day. It will make your hair very unmanageable. But it is one of the most effective ways of de-greasing your hair and removing product and scalp buildup. So...thank you for this.

      Hey Doug, I'm right up there with you in "Manes"! Very true words as usual brother. There are quite a few myths being pushed on us all at the moment in the world of hair care. At least in Mannered Manes we can demonstrate a level headed approach, and put a few of them to rest..., good to see you out here in the "real world" buddy!

      @Sylvie I agree. I do use PM for many clients because it is accessible and it works. I am honestly impressed by R+Co for many reasons. If they just removed fragrance I would be all in.
      We agree though.
      People need to scrub thier scalps. I need a surfactant to fix my 1c hair issue. Becauee free radicles and oil and dirt move me.

    Hello Trav White! I have signs of Aga and I just discovered your videos a couple months back(wish I saw this as a teen haha) but that besides this comment! I wanted to inform you on the information you provided in the end. If you look up the sens research project or Doctor "Aubrey De Grey" he and his team have figured out many reasons in why you age and how to combat it. And one of those reason is stress. Which is a hormone that over kick your metabolism into hyperdrive(when things break down it present itself to material that builds it back up therefore forming the metabolism) sometimes we don't repair properly or no longer have the material needed to do the repairing. So what good to know is the less you stress the less likely you mess up in repairing your cell tissues. As it will try and try over again. When the material is "loss" the dna that retains your blue print is altered or even damaged where that code is no longer readable to the human body and when forming "new cells" those cells never got the message when it assumes it permanent form. So your right. The less stress out we are the less likely our hair turns gray. But we can't stop it from happening. Only treat the symptoms as we continue to get older. Until even getting old is treated.

    Yes! I tried using sulfate free Shea Moisture instead of the sulfate shampoo I had been using, and it actually made things worse! My issue was itchy scalp but oily hair? Weird anyway. The solution was Nizoral shampoo to get rid of the SD I didn’t know I had 🙃 and now I use Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo and Conditioner. It is PERFECT for my hair and contains SLS. Not had a single issue since I can go 4 days without washing my hair. Literally twice a week only and it’s fine!

    Quite possibly one of the more valuable videos that you've made, so far. Not for the quality of the factual content that it contains, but more for the message it sends..., that it's ok to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them, and have the strength and humility to own them too, a trait that we see all too little of in this day and age, when it's far to easy to point the finger of blame elsewhere!
    I think it's worth mentioning too, that one of the most popular carrier oils ---- Coconut oil --- is also a DHT blocker and therefore not beneficial for beard growth. So it's best not to use it in DIY formula's, and look out for it in shop bought products.
    Another great video Trav.., Thank you! 🙏🏼

    • @coryindahus7319
      @coryindahus7319 Před 3 lety +1

      I believe its more similar to beard hair, as before puberty my eyebrows were very thin/non existant, while after puberty they are dark and thick.
      This is most likely due to the surge of androgens during adolescence. But it could also just simply be testosterone and not dht which makes the eyebrows thicker.
      But I have noticed that older men tend to have thinner/less eyebrow hair. So idk

    • @gemink7939
      @gemink7939 Před 2 lety +1

      for eyebrow hair it's probably more like that on your head - while they are terminal hairs and not the thin vellous and they can thicken up during puberty, they tend to not be as coarse as beard hair (and hair on the scalp isn't as thick as beard hair either...)
      though I guess I'd say beard hair in terms of thickness is more like pubic hair from the underarms and groin... wonder if there's differences in how they actually are inherently then?

    9:30 This is my favorite thing about science. When a mistake is made, it corrects itself. There is no better way to get famous as a scientist than to prove everyone wrong about something.
    11:00 I've been wondering about this subject for a while. Grew up on stories of people scared so bad all their hair turned white at once, and whatnot. A few years ago I watched a lecture about the degrading effects of high levels of cortisol on DNA. Cortisol is produced in the body because of what? That's right: Stress. So extended periods of high stress literally damages your DNA. I always just assumed this is what was behind stress = gray hair.
    My first gray hairs started showing up before I was 20, which no longer surprises me as I've been dealing with PTSD since I was about 8. I'm surprised my hair wasn't turning gray at 13.

    Im so confused about the DHT blockers. This guys claims its fine czcams.com/video/0tpEsKPZ8F8/video.html
    and this guy claims DHT blockers are not good for beard growth, however he does recommend essential oils such as lavender and rosemary??? czcams.com/video/dl5H1l3S0as/video.html
    Can someone clarify this for me?
    About me: I can only grow facial hair on my chin and mustache. Im 28, mother is Chinese and father is half Italian half jewish (hairy). My 26 year old brother grows a pretty full beard. I'm going to start a natural protocol to see if I can too. So I ordered a derma roller (~200 titanium real needles .25mm) as well as Castor Oil and rosemary oil and I already own lavender and peppermint oil. But before I make my blend I need to find out the truth about these DHT Blocking oils!

    I think the greying hair thing is a myth. Imagine all the ppl that went to go back in the day, they would all have been white-haired or without hair at all.
    Really nice video Travis! not many people make a video about things that were "wrong" in a past video.

    I think you would like an Instagram account called "Sciencemeetscosmetics". She is a scientist that shares a lot of information, studies and experiment results on hair related things (and skin care too). I already knew that Sulfates stuff from her 🙂
    Great video 👍🏻 thanks. You gave me hope for my grey hairs 😅

    I personally have always believed genetics and stress play a role in grey hair.
    I remember when I was 13 years old and I found my first grey hair. During that time, I really struggled to learn math. I was stressed out and had horrible test anxiety so it only made sense that I found grey hair early in life. My mom started getting grey hair after her father died when she was 15 years old.

      I only condition my hair twice a week. One wash on Monday and then on Friday. Over washing your hair drys your hair, this gives me time to build up my natural hair oils during the week.
