Not really. Most of the weapons they give to Taiwan are 3rd rate weaponry.
Taiwan's official name is not even Taiwan. Taiwan's official name is Republic of China.
Taiwan's own constitution states that Taiwan is a part of China. Taiwan's government for decades not only argued that they were the legitimate government of the whole of China. They claimed that one day they would return to China Mainland and restore their rule over there.
Yet you hear Western media outlets claiming Beijing claims Taiwan as its own territory.
No Bobos the question has never been whether Taiwan is a part of China or not. The Question has always been who is the legitimate government of the whole of China.
Is it the government in Beijing or is it the government in Taipei.
In the 1972 the UN security council and most of the world recognized that it was the government in Beijing.
Now Western governments are going back on their declarations to recognize the government in Beijing as the sole representative of the whole of China and Taiwan.
This is where the conflict is coming from.

the US is no angel. I don't think anyone thinks so. But Puerto Ricans today either want to remain a US colony, and a fraction even want to become a formal state. What matters, because at the end of the day what matters are the people who are alive today that feel suffering, are what the people on the ground today want. I'd be curious to know what % of people in Hawaii today want to leave the US, and any other state. And in any case, the US is not threatening to use weapons to force Puerto Ricans or any other state to remain. In fact some American even want Puerto Ricans to be independent so they don't have to worry about them anymore! Just like some reasonable Chinese people want the same for Taiwan!

The real topic at hand, is why have the former Soviet countries flocked to the United States, the said enemy of the entire Soviet Union willingly? The only arguments anti-US countries have are of the past. If you'd want them to make sense....you would allow these self-governing countries to freely have US military equipment, without complaints... then you can say "well we allowed these to do it, what makes the US an exception." Till then, Russia, North Korea, and China can't use such arguments of the past since they're currently doing the same. Thereby making them an even bigger hypocrite.

When President Tsai came to power, she went bezerk about going independent, US doesn't support , but wmshe went ahead anyway.
