    I am from MELAKA, Malaysia.
Since 15th century China already trade With Melaka. They never conquered us, only trade. BUT the west Portuguese, English and Dutch came with cannons to conquer us and said we belong to them. They each stayed for years.

Actually China has been trading with this region for thousands of years. If you are a history buff you will have to refer to the chinese records to know about this region historic past. Since Melaka was founded only in 1402, a chinese admiral, a trade envoy started to visit Melaka in 1403, a year after its establishment.
Once the Europeans managed to find their way to this region, they started to invade the kingdoms. Except for Siam, all kingdoms in south east asia were conquered by the Europeans.. portuguese, spanish, dutch, french, english, american for more than 400 hundred years.

A complete neocon who is overly confident of America's capabilities because our last wars have been victories against Iraq and Afghanistan. He should review America's massive failures in Asia during the Vietnam and Korean conflicts. I'm heartened to hear diplomats like Mr. Mahbubani who are much calmer and thoughtful in their speech. Wolf warrior diplomacy is basically China taking off the kids gloves and stop taking sh!t from the US. He has the galls of accusing China of aggression?!? China is not the one who goes around instigating coups, fomenting unrest, carrying out assassinations, and outright overthrowing sovereign governments that refuse to kowtow to US hegemony. And they never talk about the reason why China is resorting to the strategy in the South China Seas is because the US has gone on record talking about the strategy of militarizing the island chains and cutting off China's trade routes. In the post WWII period, this was widely accepted by other states including the USA. China has merely redefined it as the 'Nine Dash Line' in view of changing geopolitics. Again it is the changing dynamics in this playing field that see countries like the USA and the Phillippines raising opposing claims to China's Nine Dash Line. kishore makes wrongful generalizations about ASEAN. ASEAN tolerates china because of chinese economy, but most DISLIKE chinese oppression and bullying. communist china is not harmonizing as kishore pretends, they are the main oppressors in ASEAN territory.

just let some guys know, the south china sea 9 dash line was accepted by US before. after WW 2, US fleet escorted the Chinese marine to each island in that area and declaim the territory. and that time Philippines was not even a country, it wasjust a colony of French. Then Chinese had civil war, so they don't have enough power or military force to hold those islands. many countries split the south China sea close to their countries.

@@anc5572sorry, my mistake. so Philippines is just like Taiwan, created by US to provoke China and lure them into the war.
