By the way, this is not vibrato but actually a very fast portmento -- meaning she is actually descending on to each note from a note higher but it's so fast, westerners hear it as vibrato - we're not allowed vibrato in Indian classical because the focus is on very precise notes, whereas with western vibrato you can be a little off the note and it will still sound OK. In western vibrato you oscillate around a note but don't go all the way to the upper or lower note. But she is actually going to the upper note as a grace note before hitting the actual note. The notes she is singing are all white notes on the piano from D (say one octave above middle C). So if you play all the white notes from D to the next upper D or down to the lower D on the piano, you will get an approximation of the Raga Bhimpalasi based on the scale we call Kaafi in north Indian classical. Think of the Kaafi scale as the western major scale with the third and the sixth flat. So, if you were playing the Kaafi scale in C, you would be going C, D, E flat, F, G, A, B flat upper C, and so on. But she is not singing Kaafi, but the Raga Bhimpalasi based on Kaafi. So, the ascension in the scale of C would be -- lower B flat, C, E flat, F, G, upper C, and the descension would be upper C, B flat, A, G, F, E flat, D, C. In other words, it's pentatonic going up but all 7 notes coming down.
To sing like her, you would have to start practicing your scales at age 4 or 5 and often practice 9, 10, or sometime 14 hours a day for several years. You, don't practice fast. Instead, you first practicing singing a single notes with no vibrato till you have perfect pitch, then you zig zag up and down several different scales say 2 and a half to preferably 3 octaves in range. By zig zag, I mean say if you're practicing C major, sing it like this D, C, E, D, F, E, G, F, A, G, B, A, upper D, C. Do that slowly focusing on exact pitch. It may take several months or even a few years, but eventually you will get faster and faster at it. You have to also practice many different movements, like say C, E, D, E, C, E, D, E, C, E, D, E, C with a plain AAAA sound. Start slow and don't try to speed it up. Just stay focused on exact pitch. Speed will come automatically. Only speed it up to the point you're still in correct pitch. It takes years of practice. You can also practice just oscillating two notes with AAAA sound like C, D, C, D, C, D, .... keep doing that throughout the day and gradually you will develop the motor skill to do it.
Good luck to all --- Indian Classical vocal cannot be sung correctly unless you really really really practice forever, meaning day and night just keep humming your scales.

Not good to explain Indian Classical vocal using Western vocal concepts like vibrato and tremelo and niether are they runs like western jazz vocalists do. Instead, it's a very fast portmento zigzaging the notes up and down the scale. Please listen carefully -- we use our own version of what are sol fa notes in western music. So, instead of Do, Re, Me, Fa, So, La, Te Do, we sing Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa. So, going up the scale zigzaging is Re-Sa, Ga-Re, Ma-Ga, Pa-Ma, Dha-Pa, Ni-Dha, Sa-Ni, Re-Sa ... then come down as Sa-Re, Ni-Sa, Dha-Ni, Pa-Dha, Ma-Pa, Ga-Ma, Re-Ga, Sa-Re, Ni-Sa. --- don't sing it fast. Just practice that throughout the day slowly. First pronounce the Sol Fa notes, then without pronouncing them sing them as AAAAAAA which we call Aaakaar. And by the way, these are not simple runs. They are complex continuous patterns that are synchronized with the tabla percussionist doing his 16 beat pattern. So, not only is she singing complex patterns fast, notice she finishes exactly in sync with the end of the 16 beat tabla percussionist cycle. These are not simple runs as in western music. You need several life times of slow practice. You don't get this by fast practice. You sing slow but repeat the scale around 10,000 times every day for say one year. Then you will find speed comes automatically. But to get to her speed you will have to practice 10 hours a day for 20 years.

she js reviewing an entirely different culture, this video is for western people who are curios about indian music. she does not need to do a whole research on indian songs and how they are structured before doing this. it is not a school project.
when we Indians try to put an English song on instrument we also use the sa re ga ma pa. we don't use their method. so it is fair thay they understand and appreciate our music, at least at the beginning in their terms amd do research on our culture and music structure later out of curiosity.

    "She is singing 'simple' notes
The vibratro is doing the work for her
    Rap song??
    She is wobbling the voice
Her head voice and chest voice do not differentiate"
    🤔🤔🤔😭😭
No head voice is allowed in Indian Classical Music
Those are complete notes sung very rapidly not wobbling
Simple Runs are structured in a Raag and the sequence cannot be changed
Please pay some due respect to Indian Classical Music by researching before commenting 😁😁💜💜

      Thank you for showing interest!
Mia has not reacted to Indian Classical before - this was her very first reaction. She enjoyed it so much that she decided to post it on CZcams!
Mia explains things from the perspective of vocal pedagogy:
      - Referring to the very fast movement in the singer's voice as "vibrato" or "tremolo", assisting the quick production of so many notes.
      - Head voice and Chest voice musculature working as one is usually referred to as the Mixed voice. Chest voice is in the low notes and as each singer goes higher in their range, the more they are using the musculature of Head voice. In this case, it would be called a Heady mix. It is not pure head voice, which indeed is not allowed in Indian Classical. Mia really loves to see when a singer has the perfect mixing technique and she points out when a singer transitions to the Head voice musculature. She tries to keep things simple for the viewers.
When Mia said "Rap God" she was referring to the rap song by Eminem called "Rap God", where in a specific part of the song, the speed of the rap becomes very fast. It has been a challenge to many singers and rappers to replicate. What she meant here is that this is not only a challenge to replicate due to the words being spoken in a very quick succession, but also the vocal agility that is needed in order to sing the correct notes perfectly, making this Indian Classical song even harder than Rap God.

@@Jess-737 Hey Jessica......, I apologise if the comment section hurt you. Mia's reaction and ignorant people commenting are like primary school kids giving opinion on Einstein's theory of relativity. But, I would like to point out one thing that Indian classical music is not surviving because you people are buying it. Believe me, none of these musical maestros will beg you people for inviting them or buying their music. Even if they have only 10 students and a two room house, they'd be happy dedicating their whole life to music. The classical music in India is not seen only as an art form. Its seen as a prayer, meditation and a way to attain nirvana. And therefore our classical music has been passed down(that too orally) for 1000s of years irrespective of westerners bought them or not. Western classical music has been dated back to 6th century CE whereas Indian classical music has been dated back to 2000 BC.
If you appreciate Indian classical music then you are most welcome. But if you think its surviving because of your money then you are fantastically wrong. Its surviving because its good, its unique, rich and deep...., 😊

The notes in the Indian classical music consist SA RE GA MA PA DA NI (7 nots). Now from these 7 nots there hundreds of RAGA form. You have to go through some lessons of the Indian classical to understand this.

I'll just say stay away from Indian classical its not your cup of tea. It literally takes decades of practice yeah I am saying decades in plural cos a decade might not be enough to get this control ability. It will not be just done by adding H in vibrato 😂 Vocal Coach lmao...

Sorry, thats neither vibrato nor rap. Its very different from the concept of western format of music. She is not wobbling. She is hitting distinct notes ina very rapid pace and in full voice. Falsetto is not allowed in hindusthani classical music. And again its totally diffrent from a vibrato and waayyyy more tough than rap or vibrato. Please consult videos explaining the basics of indian calssical music for a better undertanding. 😊

not vibrato or anything, pure notes, sung precisely, no transition between notes (like square waves in physics, maths etc.) slow down and you can distinguish each note precisely. No decorations, just singing pure notes at a very high speed.

FUN FACT: Most of such Indian classical musicians, even the elite ones make most of their living by performing internationally, i.e. outside India because no one, I mean literally NO ONE buys their music in India. They get some gigs but it's mostly the international gigs that pay their bills. Less renowned one make ZERO money. And knobheads in the comment section think Westerners shouldn't react to such music.
ANOTHER FUN FACT: Indian classical would have died away long ago ONLY if it wasn't for Sir George Harrison of Liverpool. Get a grip.
