I read the book when it first came out and he's right. I used to just do a short bike ride for 20 minutes up and down some steep hills, going hard. It was a good daily workout, and I was in good shape and thought I was giving about 90% of my effort. I gradually increased the amount of time I was riding over the next month or so and eventually I had increased my distance by 6x and was riding 2 hours every day in the summer in 90+ degree weather with the sun beating down on me (do remember to stay hydrated if you try something similar though). I didn't get any slower either, I was able to maintain the same pace. I was in my late 30s at the time, so middle-aged people can do this too. You just have callous your mind up and learn to enjoy the discomfort because it makes you stronger in the end. Every time I felt like quitting I just remembered all of the shit that Goggins went through (much harder than what I was doing) and I used him as inspiration to keep going. You don't have to go to the absolute extremes that Goggins does (it's arguably not healthy to go as far as he does), but most people can absolutely double or triple their efforts in their work, athletics, or whatever else and seem elite compared to most of their peers. You just have to commit and never give up. I also seem to recall that Goggins had to do Hell Week 2 or 3 times, not because he quit, but because instructors pulled him out the first time or two, due to injuries he had sustained. But the guy kept coming back until to survived it and conquered it. Doing multiple Hell Weeks takes serious heart.
this is a really good summary. i listened to the book 5x now and this is the actual message he wanted to bring across.. many haters look only at clips of his and never read the book but of course they are haters who probably cant name 10 books..

Lesson 4 - sometimes you can put your soul on a plate and that person still doesn't recognise you, doesn't appreciate you, because they simply want to believe their lies about you. I have this experience. But it doesn't mean that every boss is like that...
This book helped me unpack my trauma from childhood abuse, if you're going thru something I recommend you read this book. It can change your life for the better.
Hello, which software do you use to make those sketches and convert that to video? Where do you get all the design ideas from? Does the software help with design ideas too?
Hey, software is called Videoscribe. The design ideas are from my head :) The software simply does what it tell it to do, the idea and creative process is up to you
Great review. I stopped myself from buying this book on eBay and searched audio book reviews and found this. I took notes and have everything I need on 2 sides of a 3x5 card. I can invest the reading time into accomplishing something.
@@SuccessfulByDesign real valid statement here, if you can take all the lessons from a book without using time reading it, that time can now be used taking action with the lessons 👀🤔
@Sudhanshu Satyam I'm watching the review after finishing the entire book, personally I would not be able to give value to the lessons taught in a video review if I hadnt gone through Goggin's entire life story. But thats me, if that dude can actively learn and practice what the book preaches in the same intensity as if he had read it, nothing wrong with that, in fact I wish I were like that. This book definitely changed my life, I've been going to the gym, studying, working on my projects for the past 2 months non-stop, all of which preceded a very lazy and sedentary period in my life. This book taught me how to find limitless fuel for knowledge and pushing further my own limitations. If only I had read it 2 years ago, or 3 years ago, id be someone SO much better today but it's never too late. To me, i HAVE to go through the entire book, simple summaries only help me retain the information afterwards.

Enjoy the journey. Once you approach the end of the journey think of of a new challenge. If you don't you will achieve your goal. You will feel happy for a short while. However once you reach top of the mountain all directions are downwards. Find that new mountain to climb quickly.
watch the interview with Lewis Holmes. David Goggins isn't special, he just accepts his darkness and uses it to strive for more. calling him superhuman takes away from your ability to be as great as he is.
His achievements are not typical so in my view, he is superhuman. Does that makes it impossible for someone else do to the same or even better? Not really.
I don't believe in a book being able to replace the father that puts you to hard work. All the high performer people I know (as friends, former employers, elite athletes) had a tough father. There's no mental trickery to compensate for that state of mind given in childhood.

There are some okay concepts here, especially using your challenges and failures as stepping stones. However, "you have enough time to do everything" is not only untrue but dangerous. Even on its face, this is a fallacy. Also, I fear this model of thinking doesn't leave enough room for helping others, including family and community. It seems to focus nearly exclusively on yourself and your own goals.
I think this model is exactly as you described it. Some people are focused on themselves only and that should be fine. Not everything is about friends and family or community. For those of us who are empathetic, this is unheard of however, it is 100% true. If a person has a goal, only they can achieve that goal. Others cannot be relied on to help with it. Only you can be dedicated to your own goals. They may even inhibit the achievements of that goal. Sometimes being motivated means leaving others behind and being ok with that.
